In 2014, the state of Florida replaced all their HCBS waiver programs with the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care Program (SMMC-LTC), which helps eligible seniors pay for assisted living costs. Dr. Piper Center for Social Services(239) 332-5346The Dr. Piper Center for Social Services seeks to make a difference in the lives of local seniors by providing a variety of supportive volunteer-run programs and services. Its Faith in Action program offers transportation services to take seniors to medical appointments and errands. The organization also operates Senior Companions that pairs elderly residents with local volunteers who provide a sense of friendship and support.
Senior Friendship Centers of Lee County(239) 275-1881Located across southwestern Florida, Senior Friendship Centers are a non-profit initiative created to help seniors meet their health and wellness needs. These centers run various programs and services to help elderly residents stay healthy and active, such as a senior volunteer program, wellness classes, educational seminars and recreational activities. To help seniors stay socially active, the organization offers a congregate dining program where seniors can sit down for a nutritious lunchtime meal at one of 10 dining sites throughout the region.
Lee County Department of Human & Veteran Services(239) 533-7900Seniors who have served in the military have access to a variety of programs and benefits, including financial support and health benefits. The Lee County Department of Human & Veteran Services is available to help provide seniors with information and help them access the benefits they’re entitled to for their service.
Healthy Life Centers(239) 424-3220Operated by the region’s premier health care provider, Lee Health, Healthy Life Centers are designed to help Lee County seniors meet their health and wellness needs. The organization operates in three different locations across the county. At these centers, seniors have access to various programs and events, including health-focused educational seminars, group fitness classes, themed social events, cooking classes and massage services.
