I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My wife is in Volante of Fort Myers. Everything's fine. She's not doing too bad. With every place, there's always room for improvement, but I think they're doing a good job. Her room is excellent. It's private and it's large, and they've done everything. There's furniture in it, and it was all ready for her. They did an excellent job. It had a double bed, a dresser, a nightstand, a lamp, a television, everything. They're trying the best they can, but my wife gets kind of aggressive with her dementia, and that makes it tough for them. One of the reasons I went to this place is it was so convenient and it looked nice and they had a nice room ready for her that could take her almost immediately. They seem very nice. For me, the food was fine. For my wife, it's a little bit tougher because she doesn't like vegetables. They had chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, and pork chops. I don't have any complaints with the food. She's kind of a picky eater, so sometimes she doesn't eat much, and other times she goes in pretty good. They're very helpful. They tell me she's not eating much, and they're trying to do the best they can. They have activities but she doesn't really want to participate. I was there once and she was out there sitting on the couch with some other people watching TV but she doesn't interact with a lot of other people yet. The activities are fine. The people seem happy in there. They seem to be getting around good. Most of the staff know them by name and talk to them. I see them out in the big area there, sitting around and some were knitting and crocheting. They have things where they're talking about different things and it's kind of a group. I have sat out there with her at lunchtime, but she usually sits by herself and a lot of times we just go out. Value for money is very good.

I visited this facility

We toured. They had to evacuate during the hurricane and it smelled. The roof was leaking and the air-conditioning still wasn't up and running correctly since last year's hurricane. Therefore, it was not something that we would consider. It was very nice, but they really took a hit with that hurricane. The people that we met were super pleasant and they offered some wonderful activities, but because the air-conditioning wasn't running correctly, I think that's attributing to the smell that we smelled. It could have been just that particular area that we were in, but because of the air quality it smelled, and it's a big turnoff. They need to get the air-conditioning running and the roof repaired. When we entered, there was no one at the front desk and we had to wait for someone to even say hello to us. They weren't expecting to see us, so that could have been the reason. We just walked in. We had no scheduled tour, but they were very accommodating and they gave us a tour right then and there. We didn't have to come back and I thought that was really gracious of them.

My mother has moved here. It's easier for me with her there. The place is fairly new. The people are friendly. They do a pretty good job. There are just a few complaints, but you're going to have complaints no matter where you go. The people that I've met have been very friendly. My mother hasn't had too many complaints. They treat her very nicely. She's got a studio with a small kitchen, a refrigerator, and a microwave. They were furnished. We got a coffeepot there and some dishes, and she's got a living area, a bathroom, and a shower. You have different room choices. You can get a one-bedroom, which is a little bit bigger. It's an assisted living facility, but she's on a level four for caretaking because she can't get up by herself anymore. She's 102. They have bingo and games that they play. They bring people in to perform, sing, dance, and tell stories. They have a night where they've invited people over for Memorial Day. They're doing a country a month. This month it's Jamaica, so they're doing some food that's Jamaican and doing some interesting things with the Jamaican culture. They got another month that they're going to do another country. I think they do a good job with the food. The facility is very good.

My dad is in here, and the place is just beautiful. The staff is phenomenal, and they are all engaged at all different levels. It's not like only one person can do something; they share responsibilities. They are incredible in getting you involved with the activities and programs. They really put effort into making the residents feel welcome. The most important thing is their COVID restrictions; they are very strict, and I think it is great because they have had zero cases of COVID. Everyone in that facility is vaccinated. They have lots of activities. They have virtual bowling, which I've never seen before, and some of the residents can do it from a wheelchair -- they are very considerate. This for me is like the crème de la crème because it is so new.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is at the memory care unit here. First of all, they realized that I had an immediate need, because my mother would disappear on us after dark, and it was a big ordeal to find her. When they contacted me, they made it so easy for me to get my mom placed in five days. It required some paperwork, and they came to the home. A lot of these places were like, "You have to take her here and you have to take her there," but they just came right to the home and had it by Tuesday, even when I just made the phone call on Monday. By Tuesday, they were out here evaluating her. I had gone Tuesday morning for a tour, and nothing was off limits. I got to ask the residents, I got to talk to the staff, and everybody was so kind and friendly. Then they came out to the home on the same day, introduced themselves to my mom, and did their assessment that they needed for the paperwork. It was pretty much a done deal by six o'clock on Tuesday night, and all she needed was her COVID test, which I took her to get. They just told me where to go so we could get the results. I also needed furniture, and they even supplied that. They had some of it stored that somebody had left, and then they set up the bed. Every place that I called, they said that we have to buy our furniture, and that's going to take me a little bit longer. They said, "We realized, based on talking to your mom, that you need us to act now. So, we're willing, for free, to let you use this furniture." My mom's been in a private room just until she could adjust, and then they will move her in with somebody else. They really bent over backwards for us. When I dropped her off on Monday, she recognized somebody, and she was smiling. She went right off with them, and never looked back. The first thing I noticed when we got there was how clean the place was. The offices, the rooms, the restaurant, the lobby, and everything else look so clean. The residents were smiling, friendly, and they seemed to be happy there -- even the employees were happy. I haven't tasted their food yet, but my mom is eating it, and I know she likes good food. The employees are also happy with it, too. They communicated beautifully with me since my mom's been there. They really made it all easy.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I moved three months ago, and I'm happy with it. The room is neat and clean, and the staff is good. The food is fine, too. It's a good community. We have some activities, but not total activities. They don't do that because they're trying to keep everybody safe. They're restricted by a lot of things.
