I visited this facility

The Windsor of Cape Coral was excellent. I like the fact that they appeared to be very organized and client oriented. It's a beautiful facility. The staff was very personable, professional, and knowledgeable. The dining area was bright and cheery. They have a beautiful courtyard that everybody has access to. They have several different elevators.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I do not have enough words of praise for the staff at Windsor Assisted Living in Cape Coral. FL. My Mother has been at Windsor Assisted Living for almost about 9 months now. Prior to that, she had lived independently in her own home, but we had faced many struggles with getting her the increased care that she needed while living in the home. Repeated hospital visits caused a challenge each time for her to be able to go home and live independently. The cost of in-home care was very expensive, unreliable, and did not provide all of the services to meet all of her needs. I fought putting my Mother into Assisted Living for a long time, but when we were in a position last November where we needed to move her expeditiously, I asked one of our hospice nurses what the nicest Assisted Living Facilities in the area was. Without hesitation, she recommended the Windsor. I called that same day and asked two questions: Do you have availability, and do you accept cats? The answer to both was yes. That same day I received a phone call from Chad, who walked me through the process of moving Mom from her home to the Windsor. He answered all of my questions about the facility, but also alleviated my fears and provided some encouragement about how great this transition can be. Prior to this, I saw Mom moving out of the home as a loss of independence. What I can see nine months later, is that my Mother’s move to the Windsor has actually increased her independence. She has gained weight. We have her medications finally sorted out and monitored. The Windsor nursing staff works closely with the VA and Hope Hospice to ensure Mom gets the care she needs. Even Mom’s cat, Millie, is well cared for. Chad even personally helped my Mother (and her cat Millie) move from Mom’s house to the Windsor, because I was unable to fly down there to assist. This was really going above and beyond. Recently, I called my Mother and she told me that the staff treats her like a “moviestar”. And I do believe they do. Even as my Mother deals with her progressive illness and increasing dementia, which requires hospice cares, the staff helps to make her feel safe, wanted, loved, appreciated and cared for. Not only do they care for Mom and Millie, but they also have been an excellent support network for me, as I navigate through Mom’s care process. Recently my Mother had to go to the hospital for pneumonia and shortness of breath, which are a common part of her disease. When she was living in the home, this would have been a crisis. The Windsor made her transition back home from the hospital seamless. I even received a text from Chad saying “Mom’s home!”. When I called to get an update, the nursing staff was very kind and considerate to my emotions. I am so grateful for them. Every staff member from the front desk, to sales, residential life, nursing staff, housekeeping, and dining and beyond are all truly wonderful people. The Windsor is beautifully kept, clean, thoughtful and the space is thoughtful and considerate of the needs of the residents and their families. The building is coded for Florida storms and hurricanes, with generators, so that I don’t have to worry about the power going out, or mom having to evacuate. These were all concerns I had in the home. The food is delicious! The presence of pets in the building makes it feel more like home. I know for many that Assisted Living can seem expensive, but when you factor in the room, board, food, 24 hour care, housekeeping, utilities etc. the costs are less expensive than what we were paying to keep Mom in her home. The last time I was down visiting my Mother, I walked out of the building as I was preparing to fly home and thought to myself “this is worth every penny” I honestly cannot thank the staff at the Windsor enough for taking such great care of my Mother, better care than I could provide her in my own home. The security of having her somewhere with people I trust is also better for my own health and sanity. I am sure there are many Assisted Living Facilities in the Ft. Myers/Cape Coral area, but I am glad that I stopped looking when I found the Windsor. It has become an important part of the final chapter of my Mother’s life and I am eternally grateful.

I visited this facility

We went to The Windsor of Cape Coral. It was the one we really liked. It was actually our top choice at one point. The facility was very beautiful. It was not new by any means, but it was kept up. It had kind of a Victorian look about it. The rooms were very nice. They had these big fancy doors as you went into each individual room, so it looked more like a house, and it didn't look like an old motel. I was impressed with that. It was very big and open. A lot of people were roaming around. It looked like they were heading somewhere to do something, and they weren't just sitting around. We liked it, but it turned out that it was way more expensive than the other ones. There was like $2,000 a month difference. The building, the rooms, and all the common areas were really nice.

Provider Response

Thank you for sharing your experience of your visit and this your review! We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the residence. If you have any questions during your senior living journey, please know we are happy to help anyway we can.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My relative is now in The Windsor of Cape Coral. They are wonderful. Every person I have met there has been just wonderful. It's a great place. It's not one of the really big places and not one of the gigantic ones, but it's very nice. She has a beautiful apartment that's very, very spacious. The people are the best part of it. They have a dining room. They have meals, and they have all kinds of programs for them (if they choose to participate). It's very easy to figure out where the patient is and how to get to them. Every single person I've met there, the staff, and everybody has been very nice and very helpful. I've heard people playing the piano and sing-alongs. These are people who live there. They do all sorts of things like that. I think the value for the money is good, I think it's a fair price.

Provider Response

Thank you, Nancy for sharing this review and your experience with the residence. We're glad to hear that your loved one is enjoying their new home. We appreciate the privilege of serving you and your family.

I visited this facility

The Windsor of Cape Coral Assisted Living was very nice. They even offered to come and pick me up, but I already had somebody to go there with me. I spoke to Chad because the lady that usually does this, Donna, wasn't there that day. Chad arranged to have lunch for me and my companion in his office before we took the tour, so we could talk over the facilities. The food that he gave us that day for lunch was excellent. It's a newer facility and the rooms were quite nice too. Even though it was an afternoon when most people lay down, I saw a bunch of women playing a steeplechase game. I was told there were several other activities that they do too. They showed me a calendar of their events, and they had activities every day. Donna, who was the lady I was originally meant to meet, actually came to the house last week with flowers for me. It was really extra nice. I would certainly consider them. The only downside was that I have a dog, and they really didn't have anywhere for me to walk my dog. They had a little courtyard though, but you wouldn't want the dog out there where people were sitting.

The Staff at this facility are first class, always very helpful the residents, conscientious about giving regular attention to the residents, and are sincerely concerned about the well being of the people in their care. During COVID-19 they did a green job of shutting down the risks of exposure to the virus. Pretty much every time I called and asked about my mother they would immediately go to her room and resolve the situation. The rooms are great for the needs of the assited living residents. They had floor plans available with a local furniture store to help select furniture to fit the room. They have a daily printout of at least 4-7 events or activities in which they can participate. Amenities are plenty - Nice lobby for entertainment and large TV. Large dining room and cafe for meals and coffee bar, courtyard, and front patio with rocking chairs. The health care section and nursing staff are very responsive to the needs of the residents. Front desk answers the phone promptly and communicates to the rest of the staff well.

We went to The Windsor of Cape Coral. We didn't have lunch, but we had dessert there, the sales director was very pleasant, and the food was very good. That was one place that was in contention for a while before they decided where they wanted to go. We saw the beauty salon, a lovely library, and nice areas where you could sit and visit with your loved one.

My mother is in assisted living at The Windsor of Cape Coral. They're very professional and caring. They seemed to understand what the senior citizens require, which is a great deal of dignity and respect, which we liked. The place itself was very clean, bright, and cheery. They seem to be focused on keeping their residents happy and safe.

The Windsor of Cape Coral appeared to be fine. The person who took us around was OK, but she had a cold and kept wiping her nose with her hands, which was irritating. The one-bedroom apartment looked fine. They had an activities and craft room, exercise classes and games, a dining room for everyone and another private dining room, and so on.

As a person who visits many senior facilities to facilitate discussion groups, I am often asked to recommend facilities. The Windsor of Cape Coral is one of the top places on my list. I base that judgment on the interactions that I see between staff and residents. Staff know the residents well and show caring in many ways.

My father in law lived at the Windsor , they were so caring and repectful to him. He had mild dementia at the time , they always included him. He was a worker his whole life and wanted to always contribute, so they came up with a small task he could do daily and it made him feel "needed and valued" . I would recommend this beautiful facility.

The Windsor of Cape Coral was very nice. They were my number 1. It was huge. There were a lot of activities going on there too. The woman that showed me around showed me some activity rooms. It had been open for six years, and a lot of the staff had been there, but most of them were CNAs. They were very friendly and helpful. My mother-in-law cannot do assisted living at The Windsor of Cape Coral; she has to have a nursing home now. I did felt very welcome by the staff who answered all of our questions. I’m not sure if they have a 24/7 nurse there. They introduced us to woman who would probably have my mother-in-law’s apartment to clean and do her laundry, and she was a real sweetheart. I would most definitely recommend The Windsor because they make you feel welcome and make you feel that when you leave somebody that you love behind in their care, you know they’re going to be well taken care of.

I was notified by certified mail that a collection agency says we owe money. The Business Office was asked 3 times what will be the final settlement bill when my father was taken to hospital and then rehab. they were notified he wouldn't return to the Windsor due to failing health. We never got a final bill but did get a collection agency certified letter telling us we are refusing to pay bill. This is outrageous and just shows their true feeling about their residents. They give you that compassionate smile and agree with what you say and then walk away thinking only of the almighty dollar is the only thing that matters. Please think twice and really check this place out before entrusting family members to be cared for by them. In this case looks are deceiving. The atmosphere is elegant and plush but the business office is totally disorganized and incompetent.

My mother and her husband lived here the past year and 1/2. After looking at all of our options in the area we thought this was the best place for them moving for the first time to assisted living. We felt like this was the Ritz Carlton of all the assisted living places in the area. Beautiful decor and apartments throughout. I am giving this a 3 star because there were a number of things that were of much concern and you should read on: 1. The staff turnover was huge, seems like a new director every 4 months, the heath care services had turnover as well. 2. The communication is terrible, while our parents were not the best tenants, we had many problems with the staff not giving us of helping us understand what was really going on there, only when we would visit we would get the communication which was 2 times a year. At times I would email and call with no response back and after repeated calls would finally get some response. 4. This last trip out 2 weeks ago I come to find out my mother had not been given her medication, they say she refused? and not had her medication for over 2 weeks with no communication from them telling us she had refused. 5. When I arrive I come to find out my father in law had lost all of his bodily functions, my mother had feces all over her hands and all over the apartment (this was communicated before I got there, but no suggestions). The apartment, wreaked of urine and the smell was unreal. Why was this not discovered earlier? how long was this going on? we should have been notified that they needed extra care and to be moved for additional care? when I got there (live on the West Coast) my husband said we got a registered letter stating we had 45 days to move them because of Hygiene? we had paid for them to bath our parents, give them their medication and they say that our parents are refusing? how can they do that? why would they not help us by more communication? I moved them in one week after I got there to a memory care facility which should have happened a year ago. If they would have communicated properly we could have given our parents the help that they needed, instead of $7,000 a month really for nothing.

Provider Response

I visited this facility

The Windsor of Cape Coral was a lovely place. My mother-in-law lived there for about three weeks, only because she went downhill very fast. She was not able to take advantage of all the things that were offered. I liked it because when I applied, toured, and talked to the agnecy personnel, they all seemed to know what was needed and what went on. The facility was very clean, neat, and friendly. I liked the whole atmosphere, and I thought it was one that she would like too. She had an apartment with a bedroom, bathroom, living room, and kitchenette. The dining room looked good, and the staff who worked there were good with the residents and got what was needed for someone. I thought the food was very good and there was variety. They normally had a choice every night. She was able to go down there for the first week only; then she was confined in her room and had to go on a special diet. The staff were gracious and very helpful. She was comfortable and cared for until she was bedridden. Then, I could say, things fell apart a little. But I was not sure whether it was because of the staff or the miscommunication between them and the hospice. I also thought that the certified nursing assistants were not totally doing their job. There came a time when she couldn't go down to the dining room, and they didn't see her when they cracked her door open. They thought she was already gone, and they did not bring her meals. We had a little problem with that. I thought it would also be better if they improved the communication between the health staff and the resident/resident's family.

I visited this facility

I talked to a personnel at The Windsor of Cape Coral, and she was very, very nice. She took time to sit down and talk to me. She told me to call her back if I needed anything, and she gave me a gift of brownies. That was very nice, and I wasn’t expecting that at all. The facility is also very beautiful. The facility was very well-decorated. There was a beautiful dining room right straight ahead, and it was very elaborate. It was very nice.

I visited this facility

The Windsor was nice, too. The rooms were beautiful. It was probably a little more elegant than the other place, but it wasn't as conducive to having a pet. You can have a pet there, but you have to walk it quite a ways to go out to go to the bathroom, and that wasn't as convenient, but everybody there was very friendly, very upbeat. The place is very clean, and if somebody likes things a little bit finer, they might prefer there. They'll take you to the doctor's and anything you need; they're there to accommodate you. There was really nothing wrong with it. It's very, very nice.

I visited this facility

The Windsor seemed to have more of what we were looking for. The staff was helpful, kind, understanding, and caring. The rooms were nice. My husband has Alzheimer's. They could have a little bit more food. He loves milk, and I had to ask for milk. I have to ask for a snack in between lunch and dinner. He could get hungry in between that. It's clean, they keep the residents busy, and they play games. It's also close to where I live. The people were nice. There always seem something going on, and they entertain people. They do take them out on a bus. I think just to take them out on a ride at least once a week would really help them.

I like the staff at Windsor of Cape Coral. They are very friendly, helpful, and very professional. The place was good. It was very nice clean, nice, and new. They have lots of activities for their patient like exercise classes. Actually the room of my aunt was organized and just adequate for her needs. The dining room was very nice and also clean and this is her personal choice so we decided to choose it for her.

I visited this facility

Mom moved to The Windsor of Cape Coral. One of the reasons why I chose this facility because it was the closets one to our house and it’s a fairly new building. It's owned by two brothers. I like smallness of the facility. Everybody knows everybody's name. The staff is helpful in every way. They are all pleasant and easy to talk with. The place is everything I hoped it could possibly be. We have no complaints of any kind. I have eaten there and their food is nice. They have three main selections for your meals. They have crafts classes and quilting class which my mother is in. They have knitting classes and Wii games. They play bingo. They have music and entertainers that come in a couple of days a week. They have exercise rooms and exercise classes. Since mom moved in, her physical health improved greatly in just a short amount of time and her mental health is unbelievably better.

I visited this facility

We moved my parents out of their condo and into The Windsor over 2 years ago. My dad had been falling and was not able to get back up and my mom was diagnosed with Alheimers. The Windsor has taken very good care of both my parents and they have been able to live together this whole time as each has deteriorated. This facility is very beautiful and very clean. My dad will complain about the food, but I have eaten there many times and I have always found the food tasty. The residents can also order ala carte. The price is a bit high, but they are willing to work with you to see if there are options that are less costly and still meet your needs. We are all very happy with The Windsor.
