According to Genworth’s 2020 Cost of Care Survey, this average is $4,875 per month. This is higher than the national median, of $4,300. In the southwestern corner of the state in Cincinnati, assisted living costs an average of $4,750 per month. The average cost in Lima is almost $300 lower in comparison, at $4,594. On the state’s eastern border, seniors in the Youngstown area pay even less at an average of $4,038 per month.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Medina County

Medina County seniors who need help paying the monthly costs of assisted living can apply for one or both of Ohio’s financial assistance programs: a Medicaid waiver program and the supplemental SSI payment program.

The Assisted Living Waiver, which is part of the state’s Medicaid program, helps seniors residing in assisted living facilities pay for personal care services. Supplemental SSI payments are also available to seniors who qualify for regular SSI payments. Both programs can be applied for through the Summit County Department of Job and Family Services.

Staff is available to help elders determine their care needs, find a long-term care community and apply for financial assistance programs. The agency’s long-term care ombudsman is responsible for investigating complaints and concerns about resident welfare in assisted living and other senior living facilities. The AAA also offers health promotion programs including vision screenings, wellness fairs and healthy aging education.

Adults aged 60 and over may participate in games, crafts and hobby clubs as well as day trips and support groups. Trained OSHIIP volunteers provide unbiased information and guidance about Medicare Parts A and B, Medicare Advantage and Medigap plans and Part D prescription drug coverage.
