Nursing Home Communities in New Milford, CT

"I was really comfortable visiting my uncle at Candlewood Valley because it had a strong "home" atmosphere rather than a hospital vibe. The furniture and decor was very modern and stylish so it was very pleasing to the eye. Over the course of 2 years I had pretty much seen the entire facility including the administrative offices and I was always impressed with how clean everything always was. The staff was very inviting to family/visitors and had a clearly genuinely warm "friendship" with my uncle, rather than a just seeing him as another business transaction. My uncle was very grateful to us for finding Candlewood Valley for him because he had lived in other facilities that he really hated. There's nothing really negative to say about Candlewood, but I would have liked to see more diverse schedule of activities for the residents. They could definitely be more creative in the recreations they offer and perhaps ask the residents what activities they would like to see added. Overall I would rate this as a safe, clean, therapeutic facility that could use some attention in the recreation area. "

"As a result of a serious blood infection that had heart implications and was connected to other intractable health conditions, I was transferred , after a hospital stay, to the Village Crest Rehabilitation Center in New Milford, Connecticut where I received excellent care for a month. Particularly notable is the nature of the staff there. Everyone I came in contact with was professional, caring, and good humored. No one ever seemed to have a bad day. This was especially remarkable because of the number of people with whom I came in contact over the period of one month. Moreover, a couple of the nursing staff went far beyond what one would expect to improve my condition and help me be more comfortable. The physical and occupational therapy staff was very knowledgeable and definitely given to problem solving. The facility is immaculately clean. "

"I went on a tour of East Hill's assisted living facility in Southbury. It was nicer and better for my husband because they have an aide that sits outside the apartment 24 hours a day, plus they have a nurse on call 24 hours a day. It's also not much more expensive. The people who toured me were very nice and very friendly. The size of the rooms is very nice, and even the 1-bedroom apartment had a balcony, which I like. They are much larger than the ones I saw in a different facility I visited. They also have a full kitchen with a little refrigerator, so I wouldn't have to buy one. The dining area is nice. It's small, but it's because they have a dining area on every floor. It's not like the others, where you go to one big dining area. They have a swimming pool, a courtyard, and a walking area. They have four or five buildings that are attached. They have independent living, assisted living, memory care, and a nursing facility. I also want to see how close the parking space is to the main building. With the administration building, there wasn't much parking, and it was situated on a hill, making it difficult to get there. Once you got out of the car, it was far to walk."

"Mom is now at the Lutheran Home in Southbury. Maintenance and upkeep are wonderful. The staff is wonderful. The food is OK. My mom would like it a little more upgraded, but I'm not too sure that's going to happen there. They have meetings with her every other month about her health and what things she would like to see changed. She likes it there a lot. They have a recreational area. They have a dining area. I think they could do a lot more for the residents recreational wise, but they try their best. I've been very happy with the staff. She's on Medicaid and Social Security, and there's no problem with that."

"The facility was just beautiful! Updated. The staff was wonderful, very caring. They made the stay there for my family member so comfortable!! Would highly recommend!! "

"I had my mother and father at Glen Hill in 2014, 2015 AND 2016. ALL of their stays were excellent. The staff is great and friendly. Therapy is excellent. Glen Hill is clean and looks like a 5 star hotel. It is very warm and welcoming . "

"Some of the workers were vary polite others obviously were not. I personally was surprised with some of the workers they had working in this facility as they did not look presentable enough to hold a position in that sector. When I say that I am referring to Neck and full arm tattoos of which were showing, big piercings on nose, ears, and lips. I also was sadden the minimal amount of people who stayed at this facility full time were actually allowed to go outside. On the other hand, the building was keep fairly clean, the facilities bathrooms were clean, and they had a nice environment when you first walked into the building. The Kitchen looked a little to outdated, and should be remodeled, and several of the workers did not wear hair nets at all times which I feel is necessary. The Building is Big, but not large enough for having over 120 patients living there full time. I would hope that they would in time either look for a better larger building, or remodel the building a bit to allow for rooms to be a little larger, and for the elevator area to have more room as well. "

"Hancock Hall is family owned and that makes a tremendous difference when choosing a nursing home for a loved one or yourself. Yes, it is terribly expensive--but they all are. At Hancock Hall, however, the primary emphasis is on the patients. The place was immaculately clean which is extremely important. The aides were well trained and kind. Most nurses were very good and the rooms are nice. There was an active recreation program with many varied activities at the time when my relative was here. If possible, I recommend finding one of the few family or privately owned facilities rather than one that is run by a corporation. Hancock Hall's owner listened to any complaints and they tried to set a high standard of care."

"My Mom was in her last months with Altzheimer's Disease. I chose Filosa for her care, and so very pleased I did. The entire staff gave her the finest care possible, and all phone calls that I made to check on her were always answered with as much information they could share. I might also add that the registration and paperwork were handled very professionally, and done with a smile and easing my concerns. Thank you Filosa for a job very well done. "

"The facility is very clean. The staff is very friendly. The rehab personnel is very attentive, Even the visiting students were on the job answering a ringing bathroom call as they were passing by that i witnessed. The lunch room is bright and friendly for the residents. My Mom needed extra care and we saw her receiving it. She enjoys the electric bed and the TV with her favorite channel of old movies."
