My parents moved to PW five years ago. They started out in independent living with a lovely first floor apartment with a garden-view terrace. They greatly enjoyed the fine dining, afternoon teas, use of public space, and many cultural events. Mom joined clubs and committees and made many new friendships with both staff and residents. Dad eventually moved to Memory Care which was very well run. He is currently in the Long-term care at the Health center where he is also being looked after very well. After falling ill with PAH, Mom first used Residential in-apartment services before entering into long-term living in the Health Center. She passed away this summer after a one-year illness. Every step of the way, Mom was supported by a very caring staff, whether it was Nurses, Aides, Social Workers, Reception, Hostess/Waitressing crew, Maintenance or Housekeeping. Our family was kept advised of every important medical or emotional concern. Mom passed suddenly and quickly-- with loving caregivers by her side until family could arrive. We couldn't be more grateful.

I recently visited Pomperaug Woods for one of the many invitation only activities offered to prospect residents. We had a fun filled afternoon of a trivia contest and delicious refreshments. The staff was so friendly and accommodating and the chef’s talents were on full display with the wonderful array of light fare. The building and decor are beautiful and the grounds artfully landscaped to provide a welcome home atmosphere. Based on this and past visits, I would highly recommend Pomperaug Woods!

First off my mother only being there a month but in that month's time I got to know Janelle Courtney and nurse Aaron. The whole facility was nothing but exceptional regarding the care they gave my mother and her last 3-4 weeks of life. I think they considered me like family and vice versa. I investigated six other facilities in the area and none come close this establishment. She enjoyed a private room with a great view and to be honest the chef there is amazing for the food. Thank you so much for the attention you gave our family.

My mother was a resident at Pomperaug Woods for several years before transitioning to the health center for hospice care. I was at her bedside the day of her death and feel it important to share how disappointing the level of care and compassion she received that day. Her cancer was very aggressive and very painful. The nursing staff did not properly provide her the adequate pain relief one would expect in a hospice situation and on that last day left me to tend her by myself as she vomited and struggled to breathe. While she was happy there as a resident, in the end the hospice support at the health center was cruelly inadequate.

When it became clear that Mom had reached the stage in her life where she needed assistance in living with ease, we began prioritizing what would be important. Topping my list was to find a facility that felt more like a community, with comfortable living quarters, engaging activities, and supportive health services. After one visit to Pomperaug Woods, it was clear that we had found the ideal place, a community where mom would be a valued resident, supported and cared for with respect and compassion. Mom did not lose her independence by moving to an assistance-in-living facility; rather she moved into a community whose supportive amenities free her to live a more engaging life. The staff at Pomperaug Woods are knowledgeable, caring, and eager to provide a positive experience for residents. There are many activities provided for residents, such as exercise classes, art classes, and special presentations. The kitchen staff provides a nutritious and varied menu and the housekeeping and maintenance staff ensures the living quarters are a comfortable and safe space for residents.

We recently had a birthday party for my father at Pomperaug Woods. John , the Kitchen Director was more than accommodating and extremely helpful when our expected number of attendees more than doubled! The room was set up beautifully, the servers that worked with us were wonderful and professional, and in general, everything went beautifully. Everyone we meet there is very kind and helpful and we couldn't be happier for my dad to be living there!

Over the past few months, I toured numerous retirement communities within 2o miles of Pomperaug Woods with my dad as he started to consider the idea of moving from his condo after the loss of my mom. Some were just rental communities but more were with the financial arrangement of Pomperaug where there is a "buy in" that you get mostly back when you leave the apartment. The monthly rent at Pomperaug was very affordable and even after we calculated the money we had to put down, it was more financially feasible in the long run to go this route than paying 5-7K/mth or more at the others. After the tours, lunches (food varied widely), meeting residents on the visits, looking at apartment floor plans, amenities, and looking closely at the financial end, we selected Pomperaug. Our dad is late 80's, active, healthy, loves playing bridge, socializing, still drives, and by far he felt most "at home" at Pomperaug. We were able to fit all his favorite furniture in his one bdrm "Putnam" including his drop leaf table, living room set, entertainement center, and in the bedroom, bed, two dressers, bedside table, and his desk comfortably. The apt has a walk in closet which they double racked for him, a stackable washer dryer, and beautiful kitchen, it is a terrific apartment! The welcoming committee has already been up to meet him, the staff has been incredible and made the move seamless, the food is great, and we all agree we made the right choice. I live in Michigan but have already planned a visit in July because I want to hang out there and meet my dads new friends! Pomperaug Woods is a gem.

Pomperaug Woods was very nice and was basically apartment living. There was a computer room, a library, and get-together rooms, plus programs and visiting music groups and lecturers. The residents were very nice and seemed to like it there. The place was very clean, orderly, attractive, and surrounded by green space.

Pomperaug Woods was fairly nice. The people there were friendly. The apartments were attractive. There were a lot of activities on the calendar. They have a senior art show every year. The artwork is from seniors over seventy, both from the residents and other seniors from around the state. They didn't have a pool there, but they would pay a membership fee to a local hotel pool for people who wanted to use it. They would also pay golf fees for people who wanted to play golf off their site. We had lunch there and the food was very nice. Lastly, the price is just comparable to the other places we visited.

Pomperaug Woods was a classic casual living facility. It's airy and open. The units were smaller but very lovely. Their campuses were much more limited so that you were nearer to the dining room and the activities. They have a culinary institute person as their head chef. The people were very friendly. They interact within the town. They even had an art exhibit of art by the people that were over 65. They had an option of New York trips.

"I've been here for about six months. It's excellent. The food is better than many restaurants. They're very caring people. I can't say enough about them. I like my apartment very much. I chose a nice 2-bedroom. The facility have beautiful grounds, they have lots of physical activities, mental lectures to stimulate your brain, art classes, just many things."

This community has everything! Set in beautiful grounds, Pomperaug Woods has apartments of different sizes, serves restaurant-quality food and provides a broad range of activities to suit people with varying physical abilities. Regardless of his or her position, every staff member addresses each residents by name, often within 24 hours of the resident moving in. If a staff member notices that a resident appears to be unwell the nursing staff can be notified very quickly through an inter-com system.
