Hudson is a suburb of Akron and has a population of about 22,000, 15 percent of whom are 65 and over. This age group is most vulnerable to Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease and other forms of dementia. The Greater East Ohio Area Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association serves 17 counties, with more than 60,000 people with Alzheimer's disease in the region.
To support Hudson seniors with Alzheimer's or another form of dementia, there are 14 memory care facilities in or near the city. Ohio memory care facilities are called Residential Care Facilities, and they may share a campus with assisted living facilities or be located in a stand-alone property. In Ohio, the Department of Health licenses and regulates both types of senior care facilities.
