This unincorporated area is situated in Chesterfield County, which is home to nearly 344,000 people, and more than 14 percent are over the age of 65 The Midlothian area has 15 memory care facilities for local seniors with dementia, including five in the city proper and an additional 10 in the surrounding community.
In Midlothian, as in all of Virginia, memory care facilities may also be called "Special Care Units" and may either be in their own dedicated building or occupy a secured wing of an assisted living facility that meets the requirements for staffing, staff training, building features and admission procedures. SCUs are licensed and monitored by the Virginia Department of Social Services.
