I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Our family is happy with the care and attention our loved one is receiving here. The facility is small with a family feel, it’s clean and well kept, and the medical care and physical therapy are very good. Our family member is content here which is hugely important. The staff, especially Kathy A., are all very welcoming and hands on.

I visited this facility

I visited Ginter Hall Assisted Living & Memory Care. I like the place and the tour director. The rooms are huge. The bathrooms are nice and the space is huge. The common areas are nice. The pricing is reasonable. The ratio of caregivers was high to patients.

My mom is a resident of Ginter Hall. We like all the activities and the staff seemed very caring. They have some of the things that she likes to do as far as church and Bible study. As far as amenities, they have a beauty shop. My mom's room is very nice, my sister and I decorated it. I rate them high because it's always clean, the staff is very attentive, the level of activities, and everything that I can see. They take good care of her. They have a lot of activities to keep the residents busy and active.

My dad has moved into Ginter Hall Assisted Living & Memory Care. It's a clean facility. Their staff are pretty knowledgeable and nice. It appears that they're good to the residents. It just felt warm to me like a home atmosphere. He has only eaten a few meals. He has been there since Monday evening. He said the food is good. I was at dinner with him last night and it looked really good. His room is nice and spacious. He has plenty of room for his personal belongings. The bathroom was clean. It's just a nice facility. They have several different activities like arts, music, and someone coming in. The staff is very helpful. They have been really good about getting him acclimated to the new facility. It could be a lot of confusion for someone with memory loss, but they've done well at it. It looks up-to-date. They have nice chairs, a nice TV, and music that plays all through the building. So far, no complaints.

PROS: Almost all the staff I have encountered in my father's 2 years at Ginter Hall are very friendly, helpful, and really care about the residents. There are many 4-star and 5-star direct care staff who provide excellent care and can teach new CNAs/Medtechs what good care looks like. The executive director and director of nursing ask for feedback and act on the concerns, complaints, and suggestions I've brought to them. They are updating the physical environment so residents and their guests can have a pleasant, comfortable place to relax and visit. Good, fair rates: the care, food, accommodations, and activities (Bingo, birthday parties, church groups, music, exercise time, etc.) are comparable to more pricey Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs). CONS: As in all ALFs, good help is hard to find and keep, and at GH there are 1-star and 2-star direct care staff members who bring the overall staff rating down. For the acuity of residents, I feel all the direct care staff should be CNAs or working toward certification. No place is perfect, and if your loved one isn't getting the care you signed up for, tell the facility and work with them to get it right. This facility is worth considering. They care about their residents and work hard every day to get things right.

I visited this facility

Ginter Hall was overly odoriferous. That was the first impression as you walked in the door. The activity room in the section we were looking at had a lot of really handicapped people, and those with dementia and Alzheimer's, and they were just kind of gathered around and sitting there. It wasn't a good first impression. The entrance area was nice; it was just a little on the dark side.

Provider Response

Hello Patricia, I wish the person showing our community to you had been more informative. Our assisted living residents reside on first and third floor. Our second floor is for residents who do not recognize danger and require a secured memory care. You may have smelled an odor for a brief period of time depending on the time you visited. We usually hear how it smells so nice and clean. Unfortunately, just as in your own home, you may experience an odor as trash is taken out. We toilet our memory care residents every two hours and take the trash out immediately. We also have a great ventilation system which ensures odors to dissipate quickly. What you thought was their activity area in which they were sitting not doing anything was actually their dining room. Each floor has their own living room and dining room with a piano. Our residents sit in their dining room listening to music or to someone playing the piano as they wait for their meals to be served. Our huge activity room is on the first floor and is 1,947 Square feet. Our residents enjoy our extensive activity program with many volunteers as well. I'm not sure what made you feel it was dark because all three floors are BRIGHTLY lit and have natural sunlight coming through large windows. The drapes are always opened until at night. Thank you for sharing your comments. I hope you found the right community for your loved one. Caring for our seniors is an honor and a joy! Sincerely, Linda Bishop
