It scored the lowest for housing, largely because few properties have step-free access and the locale suffers high housing costs. The area features several primary care and specialist clinics, including those dedicated to dentistry, oncology and hematology. New City is also home to a VA clinic and an urgent care center. A few miles away, the high-performing Montefiore Nyack Hospital provides comprehensive medical services, a 24/7 emergency room and an accredited cancer center.
• Although living costs are higher than average in New City and surrounding areas, older adults may qualify for financial assistance through Medicaid, Medicare and veterans benefits, reducing out-of-pocket expenses.
