I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was sent here for rehab after hip surgery. This place was terrible, so unorganized, he would go days without PT. All we heard were excuses!! I don’t think they were accustomed to having patients with full mental acuity that could tell their family what really goes on in this place. Needless to say he developed bedsores and we finally had to have him transferred to another rehab facility. Stay away !!!

I was recently a post-surgery patent at United Hebrew and it was a disaster. I waited hours for medication, the physical therapy was poorly organized and brief and the Social worker cancelled the VN aftercare without telling me or my doctor. I have since heard many similar stories about UH What concerns me most is that a number of residents appear to have dementia and they cannot protect themselves. A visitor told me she passed a sitting area where 3 patients were crying for help with no response. The state needs to do an investigation of United Hebrew.

If zero stars was an option they’d get it. This place is deplorable - negligent and unsafe. Do your loved one a favor and do NOT bring them here. We had to get our Dad out immediately because the staff was so terrible and the safety concerns were uncontrollable. Grievances have been filed on many levels , please take your loved ones elsewhere. We don’t want anyone to go through the same pain we did

Our Mom was here for 15 days after falling. The care was absolutely wonderful. Moms room was bright, clean and Mom was comfortable and even remarked that the mattress was great. All of the round the clock care and special care ( Physical and Occupational Therapy ) were outstanding. Mom bounced back unbelievably. Dr Saba is also a warm and caring Dr that explains everything to the patient and the family like no other !! Mom was on the 4 th floor and we were very happy with everyone and Mom even made some friends.

Many do not know this but in the early 90s, a daycare center was established for employees' children and later on the general public. My 2 yr old son went there and his experience was fantastic. He was happy, well cared for and all the parents were happy having their child there. Part of the children's activities was spending social time with the residents which was good on both ends. My son referred to residents as extra grandpas and grandmas. Sadly this does not exist anymore; I heard that the new owners did not want the "headache". Bad call on their part in my opinion

We recently had to make the hard, emotional decision to place our mom in a nursing home . I am familiar with many local facilities through my job. United Hebrew is truly top of the line! the place is sparkling clean, bright and cheerful. There are lovely sitting rooms, activity areas and a gorgeous courtyard off the lobby and adjacent to a lovely little café where residents and guests can get sandwiches, salads, etc. From the wonderful admissions staff to the terrific and incredibly knowledgeable finance manager our first interactions were reassuring and friendly. The nurses and aides are quickly responsive and very kind. Mom has been seen by a social worker and recreational staff to help get her settled in and acclimated. Maintenance staff quickly hung her pictures up which made her room feel more like home. There are many varied activities during the day. We are lucky and grateful that our mom is here. Sure, it's a difficult adjustment for her (as with most elderly folks) but everyone has shown empathy and interest and are doing a wonderful job of helping her through the changes. Thank you UHG!

My husband is a patient at United Hebrew. He was at a different nursing home and I was not happy with his care. I was able to transfer him to United Hebrew Nursing Home. From his first day his care at United was amazing. Every nurse was so caring and loving to all of his needs and also took time to explain all the options and care available to us. from the first that we arrived everyone we dealt with including finance and admissions personal. My husband is in a very wonderful place. He is active in all activities which they have many and it makes for a wonderful life full of new tomorrows. and all our new family at this wonderful loving place of joy love and caring.

My mom has been at United Hebrew a couple of times for rehabilitation and I feel like this is a second home. The staff is truly amazing with my mother and with others. The rooms are squeaky clean and spacious. The Kindness starts when you walk in the door from Admissions ,Finance, social services and all the people that you need to guide you through this journey. I am transitioning my mother from rehabilitation to possibly long term care and I cannot think of another place than United Hebrew. It is hard to let go, but I know my mom is safe. My mom has met so many kind people from the staff, to the residents and even to the visitors. I feel a weight lifted over my shoulder to know my mother is in a warm and compassionate place.

My brother in law has been a resident at United Hebrew for two and one half years. Beginning with the very first day our family has been extremely impressed with the United Hebrew staffs professionalism and compassion. The admissions department, the finance department, the nursing and nurses aids have all contributed to a top notch care giving experience.

My mother was at United Hebrew in December 2017 for rehab and pain management , my family has had much experience with other facilities like this, as we went through this previously with my dad. This facility outshined any other we have been involved with. My mother was treated with dignity and respect and the staff were true professionals- she responded so well to rehab that she was able to get home in time to spend Christmas with us. United Hebrew is clean and the staff cares about the patience and residents. She was attended to quickly and as stated was allowed her dignity, which for a senior citizen is most important! We highly recommend United , we know the other alternatives and they cant compare.

I visited this facility

My mom was a resident of United Hebrew Geriatric Center in New Rochelle, NY. In 2016, we discovered that a virus was spreading in the nursing home, and all visitors and staff were required to wear masks. We found out from a nurse that the upper respiratory virus has proven to be unusually virulent, and had already spread to all but one floor of the facility, and FIVE residents who contracted the illness had already died -- 5 people on a single floor! There were signs on the doors of some of the patients who were symptomatic, yet, these patients were neither confined to their rooms, nor required to wear masks (masks are required only for staff and visitors)! The sick residents were interacting with other residents--even eating at their dining tables. I was not permitted to remove my mom from the facility -- so I was unable to protect her from contracting the aggressive virus. Also disturbing is the nursing home's poor record for cleanliness; for example, floors were often sticky and roaches were seen in bathrooms. When my mom needed to use the bathroom, she was forced to wait, during which time she usually soiled herself which added to the depression she endured due to some very indifferent nurses' aides employed there.

This is a review for the rehab. The staff is knowledgable, caring, and professional. My mother is receiving high quality, individualized PT and OT every day, and her process is notable. The food is plentiful and she is eating a lot, so it must be OK. The facility is spacious, clean, and she is very happy to have her own room, which has a lot of light, and is temperature controlled. There is a lounge with a great view, outdoor area with pretty landscaping. Her medical issue/s are being tended to, her meds are monitored. I recommend this facility for your loved one.

My granddad went here for therapy, and it was awful. I am an occupational therapist, but didn't tell this to the staff. When I Visited in the afternoons, I watched his therapy sessions and I saw that his exercises were extremely suboptimal for the type of injury he had sustained. Also, when they asked him if he wanted therapy, if he shrugged and said no, they didn't give him a session that day. All he would've needed was a brief explanation that the therapy would help his injury. I was almost in tears. Their communication with him was extremely poor. After watching a few sessions, I was told I wasn't allowed to observe his sessions (even though I was standing outside of the therapy unit in the hall) because there was no room for the patients and the therapists to do their work with visitors standing in the way. They told me that's their policy. When I finally told them I am a therapist, they changed his sessions to the morning. Coincidence? My granddad is getting much better now, because after he was discharged I started doing the proper exercises with him. United Hebrew Rehab? What a misnomer. Nursing home, maybe. I can't comment on that part.

The food is too salty. I don't understand why they add so much salt. The nurses who are mostly Asian are difficult to understand. Met a couple of lovely aides. Belva is the best. They did not review the hospital orders when my relative arrived and believe me my relative suffered the consequences. It is a safe facility. No abuse that I noticed. The bathe the patients twice a week.

After 1 week with my parent in UH Rehab, overall I give UH very good marks. The staff mostly seems very sincere and honestly caring . The rehab therapists for PT and OT are associated with Burke, and seem top notch . The facility is clean and well-maintained. Any institution has its limitations, plus Medicare and Insurance are cutting back, so if you need 100% dedicated care, have a family member stay for several hours or hire additional dedicated CNA time (if you can afford it). Parking is very limited so be prepared to park in the residential area behind the facility . Walking keeps us healthy!

Even though poor oral hygiene can be detrimental to the health of elderly people, United Hebrew does not practice ANY oral hygiene for patients!!! My mother was somehow dropped, and I was told she only had a small bump on her head -- when I arrived at the nursing home the following day, she had a large swelling the size of a softball on her head, and a disturbing bruise around it, as well...Although it was known when the incident occurred, the nursing home was never able to tell me what they thought may have happened to cause the visible injuries (my mother is bed-ridden, and immobile). Patients' rooms are so small that there are no chairs for families and friends to visit. Parking is often impossible.

United Hebrew Geriatric Center was not very good, and the food was terrible. It was just a regular nursing home atmosphere and very depressing. Mom did not get proper rehab. They did not do any rehab with her for three weeks until we complained.

I'm very happy with the services at United Hebrew Geriatric Center. They are moving my husband to the long-term care today. I have been very pleased with what they have done so far. It's a very nice place. He's been in rehab until they could find a bed. The rooms are nice, and the dining room is nice. The food he said is OK. The only problem is they had stopped his physical therapy and I think he could use a little more of that. Other than that, I have been very pleased with the way he's been.

My wife fell and broke her hip, so she is at United Hebrew Geriatric Center now. We have been very pleased with this rehab facility in terms of general attitude and care of their nurses and aides. Sanitation is excellent. It is very clean. I absolutely recommend this rehab facility. Their food is very good too. Of course, all of the patients would complain about it, but it is really very good.

My father was admitted for a stroke and cracked vederbrate in his back from a fall. The Burke PT, Occupation therapist and nursing staff had him back on his feet in 20 days. The place is very professional. The staff are mostly all positive and respectful, always knocking the door when they enter the room. The place is so clean you can see a shine throughout the building. My Mom unfortunately got injured also and I had little thought to where to bring her, even though I moved about 35 mins away its worth the travel for the care and love they give. Miriam the nurse aid goes out her way to give my Mom pep talks to get better. My Mom pushed the button to go the bathroom and amilia came about 30 seconds and apologized for not coming sooner. I feel less stessed knowing my Mom is in safe hands.

We went with United Hebrew for my mother-in-law, and she would be moving next week. The staff was excellent. The director of the admission gave us a tour of the facility, answered all of our questions, and spent almost an hour with us. What we particularly liked was that we saw lots of staff help feed the residents. The social recreation was pretty good. They had music therapy, pet therapy, outings, arts & crafts, and bingo. They had a chapel on site, a library with computers connected to the internet, and a whole variety of other organized activities.

My father was there at this facility for physical therapy. Whenever I was there at the prearranged time, I did not see any physical therapy. After leaving they refused to give me the records I requested. I had to appeal to the New York State Dept. of Health. I received them after I was sued for not paying the bill. After receiving the records I learned why they ignored my requests. They provided 12 days of physical therapy and billed me for three months. I now have to appeal to Federal and state authorities for assistance in obtaining a very sizeable refund. You can avoid such fraudulent activity by avoiding this facility.

My father has been in United Hebrew for about six weeks now, and he is doing OK there. It is clean. The care is fine, and the staff there is nice. They are very helpful, accommodating, and they are giving him therapy, but there are not enough people. He is in a small semi-private room with two beds. They each have their own separate TV with a little side table, a closet, a dresser, and a bathroom. They have three meals a day, and they have good food. He didn't go to the dining room; they serve the food to his room, and he just doesn't have enough appetite anymore. He is a small guy, and he is not eating a lot. However, that's not their fault; its his fault. They have activities like music, bingo, and movie nights.

I had seen United Hebrew and it was excellent. The facility itself, that building was newer and very clean. The rehab patients had their own individual rooms. The physical therapists were trained in a rehab center and on the weekend some of the physical therapists from the rehab come to them for therapy. It had a lot of pluses. Even some of the patients from other hospitals when they got better they send them over to United Hebrew. My aunt had an excellent care there and she really like it. The food was good and I would recommend it to anyone.

My grandmother entered this facility for rehab after a routine surgery, she never came home. She worked everyday for the County of Westchester up until her surgery. She was 76. She was treated inhumane, placed on a toilet bowl and left there and was not discovered until well after shift changes around 7am. a resident next door to her heard her crying for hel all night and when someone finally went to her room it was approximatley 5 hours later (according to witness'). She was then transported to the disgrace of a hospital known as Sound Shore Medical Center for xrays. She died 3 weeks later. Please do not let a loved one go through what we did, there are way better options. concerned about your loved ones
