I chose to move my husband to Southern Hospitality Home. It was beautiful. What I liked most was the person who gave the tour, the variety of activities, and the attitude of the staff. The staff who gave the tour was very attentive, very responsive, and very interested in my husband's situation. I didn't try the food, but I saw it. It was very well set up, it had a nice room where they could all gather, and porches for them to go outside. It was very comfortable and very homey. They have a full-time activity director, and they were very helpful in bringing in people for physical therapy, and all kinds of things that he needed. Their price was very comparable to anything else that I've looked at.

The Southern Hospitality Home in Austin has a well-kept outer exterior, which we immediately liked. It is a smaller residence and entirely smoke free. We could see that there is a great deal of tranquility here - and the adjacent greenery in the neighborhood offers a nice walking and visiting option for residents. The foyer and socializing rooms were all convenient and accessible, as well as spacious. We were told that hey can handle many kinds of elder care - from mobile to those on walkers and in wheelchairs. There seemed to be a variety of types of residents, and the staff had no problem shifting their care levels accordingly. The dining options ranged from private to semi-private to communal and all seemed well designed. The food looked delectable, too. They offer many snacks and keep some in communal areas so that residents may help themselves any time they like. We were told they also accommodate those with slight to severe memory loss and dementia. This is important to us because we are not certain how our uncle's condition will progress over time. It seems like he would be able to stay at this facility regardless of his health needs. The residents are taken out to enjoy social events in the community on a regular basis and there is plenty to do there at the facility. From art to fine dining, the residents can request anything they like to be considered. This is a very nice assisted living facility that seemed to have content and well-cared for residents by genuinely caring staff.
