We're very happy with The Alois Alzheimer Center. We've been using them for my wife for a couple of weeks now. The staff is very professional, great, as kind as can be, and really nice with the patients. The place is immaculate. I drop my wife off in the morning and pick her up in the afternoon. They have off-site tours, and there's always activity going on. They have people playing the piano, and they play games to keep them active. My wife is tired when she comes home in the evening. They know all of the residents by name.

My uncle was at The Alois Alzheimer Center for a month and a half. It's probably an older place, so when you drove up to it, it looked kind of sad to me. Nothing rundown about it or anything like that. You can just tell that it's an older facility. He wasn't there that long. I didn't visit him there very often, but when I did, the staff was nice. When I would talk to them, you could tell that they had had interactions with him and that kind of stuff.

Lousy food-overcooked, processed and nasty looking. Christmas Day was the worst looking meal I have ever seen-all I could recognize was the noodles. I have never seen anything fresh being served-not even an apple or banana. Juice is colored water-no calories and such a small cup given and have to ask for many refills to keep residents hydrated. Residents left unattended and stranded in the hallway-easy target for other residents to pick a fight. Hallway smells like dirty diapers. Activity or social things for residents nearly non existent unless you call having a TV or radio on as social time. Hallway bedroom doors are unlocked-no way to have privacy, keep your belongings or peace and quiet when needed. Staff do not do their job keeping the rooms or the residents clean. Scrapes, cuts abrasions are not attended to. Laundry service will damage all your clothes with excessive hot dryer and/or bleach splatter all over the clothes. Staff dr. just wants to increase the resident meds to keep them quiet or asleep all day long. Staff mess with their phones more than actually helping the residents or stay out of sight. No amenities I can see-maybe someone will lead a craft or read something out of a book that most can not even begin to follow along or enjoy.

This facility, for dealing only with Alzheimer's patients, needs to be more understanding of the behavior of someone with the disease. I have seen them going to give Ativan to some right after they eat so they will sleep because of behavior issues, the problem needs to be addressed with aggressive patients not covered with drugs. Some of the staff is great, others not so much especially when they don't realize you can hear them.

While there is no place like someone's home and there is no one that can care for a loved-one like family, the Alois Alzheimer Center comes close to it. They are serious about the overall care of their residents. They are dedicated in what they do for those who suffer from the dreaded disease of Alzheimer's. They know what to expect and what to anticipate with this disease and they keep loved-ones updated and informed,Is the Alois Alzheimer Center like being at home? From someone who walked through this disease with her Mother and spent hours at the Alois Alzheimer Center with her, not really, but was the next best thing!
