Our experience with Oakland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center is very good. They have excellent physical therapy. They have nice room. It is very clean. The staff is very nice and very good. They are friendly and helpful. My mother-in-law is in a shared room. She eats in her room and she has no complaints about the food. It's just really expensive.

This facility seemed to be fine up until the patient experienced a medical issue near the end of his scheduled stay. He was not progressing as well as could be expected, due to this medical issue, a peer review was scheduled. Once the patient was transferred to Valley hospital all communication between the Care center, family and insurance company fell apart, conveniently on a weekend. We felt abandoned as no one was able to tell us anything. After hours on the phone we were able to find we had lost the peer review, and both facilities claimed the other one and the insurance company was the one who determined next steps for discharge. To say communication was abysmal is a decided understatement.

Our loved one entered this facility at end of life on hospice care. Although the facility itself was clean enough, the staff left a lot to be desired. Our family member was not cared for or treated well. Their urine bag was so full it looked like it could burst. When our family member got sick and threw up and alerted the staff that the bedding and clothing were soiled, instead of changing them, the staff just placed a towel over the soiled bedding and clothing and left it. When we arrived for a visit, our family member was very upset about sitting in their own throw up. Only when we complained did someone come and clean and change our relative. They were also an hour late with administering pain medication which is critical for someone on hospice care to keep them free from pain. We removed our family member from this facility and brought them home. I would not recommend this facility.

My wife is staying in Oakland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center. It's been very good so far. I think they care for the people. They also call and let me know what's going on. Right now, I can't go in there and look, but I know they treat her very well. She was in rehab. She broke her hip bone, and they took care of that. Right now, they are doing her long-term care, and I think she's happy over there. From the outside, the facility looked like it was very well-kept. Every time I go there, everything is nice and clean. They don't want us to go inside and visit, though, because they don't want us to spread the virus. Every other day they also check everyone there for the virus and to make sure that nobody is sick. The staff is very nice. They call me up and let me know how she's doing. Unfortunately, she has fallen into this miserable dementia, so I try to guess what's going on because she can't really tell me anything. But they seem to be taking care of her really well.

We recently brought mom for sub acute rehab at Oakland. We choose Oakland due to its CNS 5 star rating and also through referrals from our family and friends. This place is extremely neat and clean. The staff is top notch. They really take care of people with integrity, honesty and warm hearts. They understand mom’s condition and are very creative in administering therapy. We have seen some results in just 3 days. We give this place a 5 star ourselves and would recommend this place to anyone who demands the best for their loved one.

My mother is in Oakland Rehab Center. It's wonderful and has a great staff. It's not the fanciest of centers, however, the staff is wonderful and the rehab is some of the best in New Jersey. It's great, it doesn't smell, and it's good. They have some five-star ratings for what they have there. My mom has to be mostly fed there since she's learning to eat again and she's in a diaper. She also has to be transferred and dressed. The food is not overly fancy, but it's fine and it's a very clean place. The dining room is also very fancy, and the food looks very good, but I haven't eaten there. My mom had creamed parmesan and spinach, and orzo pasta today. The staff is very friendly and they take the time to talk to the family about what's going on. They're not short with you. They've been very patient with my mother, even when she was ornery and going through Sundowners. They have a huge board for each month in the dining room and the residents can make choices about what they want to do. They have things to do and a sitting room where the residents can play pool, cards, or watch TV. It's a great big lounge room for them. And then there's an outside patio where she was sitting outside today, so that's really nice. What would make this place better is if it were newer. She's on the side of the community that's just rehab, and the people are pretty severe on her side. We haven't gone to the other side yet where the longer-term patients are.

My mother was brought here after cardiac ICU at Valley Hospital. Looked ok at first but she hated it! Called me at work every hour asking to get out. I moved her to Woodcliff Lake, NJ rehab - much, much better.

If you care about your loved one(s) do not let them live here!!! These people allowed a patient with dimentia wander into my grandma's room in the middle of the night, while she was sleeping, and push her out of bed. They downplayed my grandma's injuries to my uncle, telling him that she broke her leg and she would be ok. In fact, she shattered her pelvis, and died in route to the hospital before my uncle could get to her. While the staff was helping my grandma, the patient was able to wander into someone else's room and push her out of bed as well. If there was a no star option for rating, that's what they would've gotten from me.

Since my family visited family member VERY often I feel that my relative received more attention. Place is clean and staff was friendly. Since a lot of patients have dementia, I think that any assisted living place needs to have video cameras (and OCC did not), since patients can not speak for themselves when comes to injuries. We had instances with injuries, but staff members story always chosen over patient with dementia, so you can't know the truth.

My husband has been here since December. He went to this place because this is the only facility his doctor is affiliated in. It's an old building that needs updating, but it's still okay. The staff is wonderful and they give him what's due for him even if he is almost 400 pounds and paralyzed from waist down. However, they should get him out of the Dementia unit because he doesn't have any psychological problems. I will recommend this place to others who are seeking for a similar facility for their relatives.

I went to visit a friend of the family who was staying at the Oakland Care Center a few weeks ago while he was recovering from back surgery. The center is fairly large, with room that are big enough to be comfortable for two people; larger than a hospital room. The facility was clean and well kept and my friend said the food was pretty good. They even considered special diets. The staff was professional and appeared to be well trained. They kept him comfortable, but pushed him to complete his rehab. At the time, he was able to be admitted right away, but I heard sometimes there can be a waiting list. Since there are other facilities in the area, I assume this means that this is a preferred center. Happily, he made a full recovery and was appreciative of the staff.
