Pleasant Hill is a bedroom community in the middle of Contra Costa County, in the East Bay Area in Northern California. Roughly 15 percent of California's 40 million people are seniors over the age of 65, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and at least 650,000 people in the state have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Many more have dementia, Parkinson's disease or advanced Huntington's disease. These seniors often live in dedicated memory care facilities.
Seniors in memory care facilities, which are sometimes called residential care facilities for the elderly (RCFEs), get 24-hour supervision and engaging activities to keep their minds as active as possible. Pleasant Hill has 24 memory care facilities, all of which are licensed by the California Department of Health and Human Services.
