My husband seems to have settled a little bit now at The Carlton. They have gone through a lot with him; it has not been easy. I chose this community because my husband is pretty young at 70 years old and has advanced Alzheimer's. He is a difficult case because he gets combative and aggressive. I needed to find a place that is comfortable and could handle that type of behavior. Carlton Senior Living Poets Corner is bigger, clean, and has quite a bit of space for my husband to explore and move around. They have a nice outdoor area, which was also important to me because he enjoys going outside. Carlton has several men closer in age to my husband and in a similar kind of situation. I felt he could make some friends he could watch basketball or football with. They said, 'We don't kick people out. We are professional." I feel their employees are professional, kind, and seem to really care. With their activities, they have lots of things going on and try to make it a pleasant, fun place to be.

My mom went to Carlton Senior Living Poets Corner. The facility was really nice and very new. But the staff was terrible. What happened was the staff wasn't watching the residents there, and people went into my mom's room, took stuff, and tried to take my mom's clothes off. And no one was ever around to help her. My mom was bound to a wheelchair, so she couldn't help herself, so it was just one problem after another. Their solution was, they put a lock on her door, so my mom couldn't get in or out. My mom was trapped in her room 24/7. I pulled her out of there after a month. It was always one excuse after another with her staff. I tried to call, and they weren't available. I didn't taste the food, but my mom said it was not bad. She was supposed to be on a strict diet, and she said sometimes the food was a little salty. In terms of activities, they had quite a few activities there. My mom was on oxygen, and one of the things that kept happening was that they got her a portable concentrator, but they never charged it enough and it would always run out. They tried to take her to the lunchroom for her meals and stuff like that, but every time she'd get down to the lunchroom, the battery would die, and they had to take her right back to her room and hook her up to her oxygen. They didn't maintain the equipment correctly, and it would cause panic attacks for her because she wasn't able to breathe.

We went to Carlton Senior Living Poets Corner. It was more dated. It was an older facility. I had a friend whose mother was there. The programs were very good. It was a memory care, and the clientele was different. I thought the staff was really good. Talking to them and knowing first hand that somebody had a parent there, they were very satisfied with it. If you had someone with severe memory issues and would not profit from being involved with the general population, it probably would be a good place. We saw the general place where they met which was basically a large living room. It was OK, but it was a little dark; maybe it was calming. Depending on your family or whoever you were looking for, I thought it would be a place you should consider.

Our experience at Carlton Senior Living Poets Corner is pretty good. My husband is there, and he's happy. He's in a private room, and it's a decent-sized room for a single room. It's OK, and it's a small bedroom. The staff seem very knowledgeable. The temperature in the dining area is pretty warm, so it's a little uncomfortable. Security seems good, and the price seems very fair. Location is about 20 minutes, and it's quite convenient. They have television, movies and such, and they have different games like vocabulary and number games.

The staff at Chateau are very thoughtful and well trained. While the building may be in need of some updates, overall the facility works very well and has the amenities the patient's need. We had a family member here at this facility for several months until their passing and I cannot recommend them highly enough. The love and compassion they showered on him and the way the staff worked with my family was outstanding.

Poets Corner was awful, horribly depressing and had a terrible smell. It’s a very old building. The rooms inside were awful. It really looks like a cuckoo’s nest movie. The people were very nice but I would never really put anybody in there.
