My husband moved into San Sebastian 55+ Apartment Homes. We chose it, one for location, and two is that it's just wonderfully appointed, they're clean, the apartments are lovely, and it just fits our needs perfectly. The staff is wonderful. The apartment is lovely; it's perfect.

We did a tour of San Sebastian 55+ Apartment Homes. What I liked about them, compared to the ones that I had been looking at before, are the size of the unit, the cleanliness, and the sense of community. The staff was wonderful, very helpful, and very friendly. She helped to affirm that sense of community because she was very familiar with all the residents that we had come across. They had a movie theater, billiards room, and a library. They had an outdoor gathering area that included a barbecue. It was just a gathering space, and it was very nice because it was on their top floor and there was a breeze up there. They said they had wine gatherings and things like that with the community members. They have no dining area, it's independent living. Probably the biggest thing for me was the overall location of the facility just wasn't ideal. But, once you're inside, it was fantastic, I was a believer.

I visited San Sebastian 55+ Apartment Homes for my mother-in-law, and it was the most expensive among the four places that we've looked at. It was originally built as condos and then turned into assisted living. So the downside is that you'd have to walk outside and quite a ways to get to the activities, which would have been a challenge for my mother. The activities were fine; we were just concerned that she wouldn't make the effort to walk a ways to get to the activities. The other problem was that I guess they're so popular, that you'd have to rent a place online without ever seeing it. That's something we didn't care for. The staff was friendly, fine, and I didn't have any concerns. It was independent living so there's no food.

We moved in to San Sebastian, and we've only been here 18 days. We had some friends who lived here. They have a concierge, and it's a secured building. They close it at 6:00 at night. There is no way you can get in unless we let you in. We have our apartment on the first floor, which is 1600 square feet. It has two bedrooms, a study, and 12-foot ceilings -- very spacious. They have a continental breakfast three times a week and one brunch once a week. It's simple food: scrambled eggs, various muffins and Danishes, coffee, and juice. Every Wednesday night, they have movies and other activities. There is a library, a music room, a pool, a jacuzzi, and exercises. I recommend it highly. It's only five years old, and it's a beautiful, spacious, and very nice environment with flowers all around us and on the patio floor. It's just gorgeous and very luxurious, but it's also very reasonable. Unfortunately, they have a five-year waiting list for one-bedroom apartments; it's pretty much filled up.
