My mother-in-law is in Aegis Gardens Fremont. She has only been there three months. We chose Aegis because they have a different philosophy when it comes to memory care. All of their staff are trained in memory care. They allow memory care patients and assisted living patients to co-mingle, which we like. My mother-in-law has no short-term memory and is reasonably high functioning, so we really wanted her to have the option of doing this. The grounds are beautiful. The facility is beautiful. They have a central dining hall for the assisted living residents and a central dining hall for the memory care residents. I would say overall, it's pretty good. They've been very nice. They respond to our emails and phone calls. The grounds are clean. Every day there is a calendar published. They have movies every night. They have people that come in and do a set of senior appropriate exercises in the morning. They also have activities in the afternoon and a sing-along. They have a van that can take you for a drive. It's all scheduled and posted on the wall every single day. I haven't eaten there yet because of COVID, but I'm told the food is really good. I know that the residents there are talking about dinnertime. It's a very good value. They have a high initial community fee that you have to pay one time, but the month to month is very reasonable.

Aegis Living Fremont was nice. It didn't feel like a convalescent hospital. It feels more like an apartment and a hotel. It was well taken care of and kept up. They kept the residents busy all day. They made sure they were getting stimulation and attention all day in the memory care. Something was going on to keep the residents active. Their staff ratio is 4 to 1 or 5 to 1. So, you're getting a lot of care. It's just cost-prohibitive for me.

Aegis Living Fremont was very high-end. It was a lovely, beautiful place, and the most expensive. They had a studio available, and that was the one, though that they only had a shower chair that you put in. They didn't have anything permanent there, but I liked it. It was a nice size studio. It seemed like every little care was going to add more money. They have two separate wings, they have their dining rooms, and they have their staff. They did have a lovely courtyard, and it was nice. The staff members were excellent. Everybody said hello and was very polite.

I went to the memory care unit of Aegis Living Fremont. It just looked like they didn't have a lot to offer. It didn't seem like they had a good-sized, communal room. They had this area that looked like a little diner, but it didn't look like it had been used. It just seemed like the rooms were smaller and older, and the bathrooms were smaller. I didn't know where the med techs were located. The back courtyard had a lawn, trees, and some benches. The communal area had a TV and some tables. That's the communal dining room there too; they're one in the same. They were playing some type of a board game, and it looked like they had activities with some residents. The people there were older, and it does seem a lot quieter. My brother is on the younger side; he's sixty-two. I saw the room that they were going to offer me and it was at the back, but it just seemed like it would be hard for him to maneuver. It looks like the shower stall was a lot smaller, and he would have to have a chair because he has had a leg amputated. He needs to have a chair that rotates so he can get into it. It looks like a very small, compact shower area, and the bathroom didn't seem as big. I would like to have a big bathroom so he can turn his wheelchair in there, and that one was a little bit smaller.

I toured Aegis Gardens Fremont for my mother. It's a beautiful facility, and it is new. The entire facility is not memory care. Some of the wings are for regular assisted living, so they do both assisted living and memory care in the same facility. They can offer something very unique, which is my mom who has severe dementia, could stay in the same room as my dad in an assisted living room. It's not a memory care room, it's an assisted living room so that my dad can live there, and my mom could live with him. They would take my mom to the memory care facility during the day, and it's kind of subtle, but it was super important to my dad.

We looked at Aegis Gardens Fremont and we liked this one too, but it was too expensive. It was a nice place. They showed us a 1-bedroom and a 2-bedroom and they were nice. The staff was super nice too and they were very friendly. They have an outdoor area, it was a courtyard. It was well-maintained and clean. They have a calendar of events that they do; they have different things every day.

My mother-in-law is at Aegis Gardens Fremont. I think it is very nice, but kind of expensive. Honestly, the service is not that good. Perhaps because of the situation right now with COVID and stuff like that, but my mother-in-law always complains. You get sick and tired of the food after a while, I think. The place is clean, luxurious, and a nice place. The room is large and accommodates all kinds of furniture. An elevator is there. Facility is very well done. They have bingo, exercising, games, and they have entertainment coming in playing pianos. It is good.

It's not clear when you talk to the management of Aegis that there's a $10,000 move-in fee while other assisted living facilities are much less. There's also a fee of $1,000 for each pet, so we paid $12,000 before we even entered the facility. The majority of the employees care. The negative statements I would have to be about the dining room and the wellness center. They have happy hour every Friday afternoon where they have entertainment, but I do not have time to participate. My wife has participated in the exercise classes and several craft activities. They have a lot of activities for the residents.

My mother will be moving into Aegis of Fremont tomorrow. It is excellent. The apartment is clean, and everything is tailored around a person that may need a wheelchair or a walker. It has handicap rails in the shower, hand rails everywhere, a mini fridge, a microwave and a small sink. It has new carpeting, fresh paint, and a bright and sunny window overlooking a garden or a courtyard. The staff is excellent. We actually had lunch there yesterday, and I observed how they treat other residents, which is just wonderful. It is like being in your own home but having some really good caregivers available to take care of everything. The food is delicious. The dining area is beautiful, clean, and warm and fits about 130 people. They have fireplaces, beautiful furniture, and lovely artwork. Yesterday, they had bingo and crafts. They have movies at night and happy hours on Fridays. They have music played by a harpist, a band or a violinist and have a big grand piano. Every Friday night, they have some kind of entertainment, so it is very lovely. I think there is a fireplace in almost every large community rooms, which is beautiful. Every day is filled with activities. Yesterday, they had a transportation bus take them to the mall or out for lunch. It looks wonderful for every type of person.

Aegis of Fremont is an assisted living facility, but they have a section specifically for dementia and Alzheimer’s where my Dad is. We put him there for $200 a day because we did not have much choice at that time. The facility looks fabulous outside, but inside the dementia unit, we are very dissatisfied. They don’t seem to have the personal care that somebody with dementia needs. Some of the staff seem to be very caring. Last Friday, I went to visit Dad and his room was a mess with his items mixed up with his roommate’s items. They have one TV in the dining area that is the only TV for the residents; that’s all Dad does the whole day. I don’t think they go out of their way to help the dementia patients participate in any of the activities nor give them enough activities to do. The food is mediocre. They use the dining area as their common TV area. My dad lost 10 pounds in the first two months there. My rating is based on the dementia and Alzheimer area. I would suggest that they be more respectful for the people who need their assistance. They need to be more watchful of the dementia patients’ belongings because my dad’s wallet went missing twice. The second time, only the driver’s license was found; all of the money and everything else were never found. When I went there Friday, I found dad sleeping on his bed without the bed sheet, mattress pad, blanket or pillow case that I provided. He was sleeping there with just a blanket over everything. I was disgusted. That is why I am taking him out and moving him into a new community tomorrow.

My parents were at Aegis of Fremont for five years. Aegis was extremely great. The staff fell in love with my parents, and I am positive they got more far more care because they were so popular. My dad was very close to my mother there; so it was very easy for her to see him. The staff would walk him up to her room. They also knew of their eating preferences. My parents were spoiled rotten there. The food, in general, I would rate as a three. Activities were very good, though. My mom is an avid bingo queen. They had plenty of happy-hours where lots of music were brought in. Every Friday there were some kind of social event, and they would always bring memory-care people to experience the same thing with the rest of the unit. My mom’s room was smaller, but very nice.

My dad is at Aegis of Fremont. It’s really close to my house; it’s very nice, spacious, and clean. All the caregivers talk to each resident by name even though the resident may not have recognized who is talking to them, and they are very interactive. He’s in a shared room, which is smaller than he had before. I have eaten there; everything was very good, and he’s eating well. The last time I was there, they were doing something interactive with a TV show. They had about 6 residents on each side in chairs; there was a net in between, and they were tossing a balloon over the net. He seems to be doing much better there. One thing I don’t like about it is that there is not a lot of parking. There are 50 parking spaces in front of the facility; a lot of them were taken up by staff. The staff should be parking at the strip mall on one side of the facility. They have a walkway so that you could park at the strip mall and walk maybe 20 to 30 yards to the front door to walk into the building, but they park in front of the building instead.

Aegis of Fremont is a nice place. My friend is actually living there right now. I did not choose it, but her family did. I just assisted the family in that place. The services are fine. I don't have any issue with the services myself, so I'm assuming they are doing fine. I think it is a fairly good place overall. I think the staff was able to answer the questions I have so I think that is fine. I think they are knowledgeable of their job.

Aegis is a very nice facility beautifully decorated and maintained. I admitted my father as a resident to the assisted living section in an apartment style unit with no stive or microwave, but a small frig. While lots of activities were available and freedom to come and go was a plus, I found the staff to be friendly, but somewhat disconnected to the residents. Frequent staff changes made bonding or getting to know the residents challenging. The food was good and available by menu in the dining room as well as frequent snacks whenever you wanted. They were very good about allowing guests to have meals in the dining room with their family. At that time, my Dad had a mild form of dementia and needed a staff a bit more attentive, but not to the point where he needed to be in a secure area. So I would recommend this facility if you are either totally independent or you need total secure care.
