According to Genworth’s 2020 Cost of Care Survey, the average cost of assisted living in Westchester County is $5,991 per month. This is higher than both national and state averages, which come to $4,300 and $4,800, respectively.

The Cost of Assisted Living in Westchester County, NY and Nearby Cities

Assisted living prices elsewhere in New York state vary, with Westchester County falling on the expensive side. Nearby Poughkeepsie is more affordable, at $5,154 per month. Costs in capital city Albany are on par with the state average, at $4,800. Central city Utica has a similar assisted living cost of $4,905 per month. Watertown, however, has higher costs than in Westchester County, at $6,034. Ithaca has the highest assisted living prices in the state and some of the highest in the entire nation, at an average of $13,500 per month. With scenic views of Lake Ontario, Buffalo averages $4,565. Upstate city Glens Falls has some of the lowest assisted living prices in the state, at $4,235 per month.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Westchester County

The state of New York provides a couple waiver programs that help seniors afford their chosen assisted living facility. The Managed Long Term Care Waiver helps residents with payment in assisted living facilities and the Assisted Living Program helps those who qualify for nursing home care but want to live in an assisted living facility afford it.

At senior centers throughout the county, elders can access fall prevention, scam awareness and nutrition education as well as socially enriching clubs and activities. A RideConnect program links volunteer drivers with seniors in need of assistance, helping them remain mobile and active. The county also offers health insurance counseling and financial assistance programs.
Westchester County Veterans Service Agency(914) 995-2000Veterans can get expert help with applying for federal and state benefits, tax exemptions and financial assistance programs through this agency. Experts here can also link service members with mental health and medical services through the VA health care system. The FAVOR Veteran Discount Card can help eligible veterans save money at over 100 local merchants.
White Plains Adult Community Center(914) 422-1423Operated by the City of White Plains, this senior center has a thrift store and a cafe where seniors can partake in social lunches. Fitness initiatives, cultural clubs and special interest groups are available here, as are healthy aging and life transition seminars. Members can also participate in weekly trips to the local farmer’s market.
