The one that I toured and liked the most was Westchester Center for Independent & Assisted Living. It seemed very clean. The staff was very nice. The people seemed happy. They did not look overly medicated. The management that helped me review the place was very nice, and very informative, answered all my questions, and has been helpful in providing me with more information if I needed it. The rooms were very nice, big, and looked very clean. There's nothing I didn't like about it. My mother ...

About Westchester Center for Independent & Assisted Living in Yonkers, New York
The Assisted Living Program (ALP) is an Adult Home that is certified by the New York State Department of Health to provide Medicaid-funded home care services. The ALP is an alternative to nursing home care that enables nursing home eligible people to receive home health care services in the Adult Home, delaying or preventing the need for admission to a nursing home. Care services are provided by an on-site licensed home care agency operated by the Adult Home and a community certified home health agency (CHHA) under contract. This enables residents to maintain an independent lifestyle while having the care necessary to help them in carrying on their lives in a dignified manner. At Westchester Center for Independent & Assisted Living, in addition to the many amenities we offer, we provide an array of services including but not limited to: help with activities of daily living such as dressing & bathing, medication management, laundry & housekeeping, recreational activities, case management services as well as providing three daily meals of chef inspired cuisine, along with our 24 hour Country Kitchen. In addition, service is provided for those scheduling appointments, doctor visits or any other means of transportation. Each resident is provided the services required to ensure that they are receiving optimal care while maintaining their own independence. At Westchester Center we take pride in being part of the Assisted Living Program (ALP) and proudly accept Medicare and Medicaid recipients. To learn more about this provider’s license and review other available state reports, please visit: New York State Department of Health Adult Care Facility Directory

A little over two years ago, I moved my mom to The Westchester to give her a safe place to live that was close to me. Having her nearby was important because it she was getting on in years and it was clear she was becoming forgetful and unable to cook or shop for herself - basically, she could no longer live alone. The Westchester is clean and simply appointed. There seem to be a lot of activities AND celebrations involving cake. Because my mom is easy going and rarely complains, I got to ...

If your loved one is on Medicaid at the time of placement, this is probably one of the better places in the area. Just make sure to visit often so they know there are eyes watching. The rooms are nicely sized and furnished but a little tired looking. The one my father was assigned was badly in need of a paint job and had a large stain on the carpet. It was also exceedingly warm even with the a/c on full blast but this could be a product of it being on the third floor. Also, try to get first seat...

The atmosphere was great at Westchester. The staff was very good, and the rooms were spacious and clean. I did not see any activity going on, but they had a brochure of activities.

My first impression of Westchester Center was it seemed as if they were trying to hide something. They were pleasant and very nice, but it didn't seem genuine. Cleanliness was fair to good. They had exercise classes -- light to moderate -- for socialization, and they had social events where they would have potluck dinner type things.
Disappointed and sad

There are major problems here because we have an administrator who only leaves his office to go to the bathroom and is always reluctant to take any position that might alienate the owner, whom he protects from residents with the fury reserved to a mother bear's solicitude for her cubs. If any staffer dares to advocate for the residents, he or she is out the door in a nasty fashion. We had to openly rebel to get a decent doctor here. The pharmacy is a shambles, there is no way to order anything ...

I really was happy with the staff and the care they gave my Mom. She enjoyed living here, I only wish we had found this place soon. The staff know when my mom wasn't well and gave her the care she needed, I miss our visits here with my children. mom has since past away. I would recommend this place.

The Westchester is an amazing place first of all. From the cleanliness of the facility to the staff to the residents. Mom needed a place to go to after a stroke as it was difficult being alone. We toured this facility and we were all quite pleased. The staff were unbelievably kind and comforting to moms needs. I will never forget how wonderful they are. I read negative reviews and it's sad. I have to say our experience so far as been a positive one. I can reach anyone I need at any time with 10...

The person who we first met in Westchester Center Assisted Living showed us around. She took the time and was very knowledgable. She went through everything that we would envision as far as what our stay there would be like. We had a lot of questions and she had a lot of answers. She also gave attention to my aunt to make her feel welcome. She gave a very personable touch. We were very pleased with the vibe that we felt from the place. We wanted to make sure that my aunt would like to be put the...

We were nervous before moving our mother out of the house, but it turned out to be the best move we could do. with its wonderful and caring staff, and great, friendly residents our mother could not have found a better place to call home.

My family and I toured the Westchester center about a month ago. As a result, we moved our mother into the clean and caring facility. The staff made the admission process very easy. From managing her medication, food, and all necessary paperwork- it was all taken care of. My mother has been in the assisted living for about 3 weeks and I have nothing but great things to say about the center. It is truly a great feeling to know your loved one is being taken care of.

The staff in Westchester Center Assisted Living is polite to a degree. The only thing is that they need supervision. There are a lot of things that could be eliminated if they had supervision. They need someone who would be basically in charged of all things especially in maintenance. There were incidents that the caregivers came in to the patient's room without the patient being there. I heard the patients complained about the things that were missing. Another complain I have is you had to wait...

The staff at the Westchester Center have made my aunts transition from her home to the facility easy and pleasant. After a few days she started to feel right at home and has been very happy since then.

Westchester Center is a wonderful place. My grandfather has been at this assisted living for about four months. He has a beautiful room with an accessible bathroom, kitchenette , and large windows. My fears were put at ease when I saw that his room contained a call bell just incase he needed help or had fallen. There was one in the bathroom and right above the bed incase he needed it. The facility is not only beautiful but also very clean. In addition, every time I come to visit my grandfather ...

This place is an absolute nightmare. I began looking for a place where my mother can comfortably live while receiving the limited assistance she needs for day to day activities back in May of this year (2013) After being referred to The Westchester Center, I flew in to New York (where my mother lives) from San Diego (where I live) to assist her in the move and the transition. When visiting the center and while moving her in, everyone seemed to be so helpful and promised time and time again that ...

I used to live in Westchester Center. I would give this place a very low rating because my experience there is not good. They need to improve on everything beginning with their staff. Some of them were helpful, but others were not. I would never recommend this place.

I had a tour of the Westchester Center in Yonkers a long time ago and it was beautiful. Everything was very good. The only thing was that it was too far for me. I've got to go on my own and take public transportation to get to the hospital or my doctor every time, which is very inconvenient. I can't go to that facility. An assisted living in the Bronx would be the ideal place for me.
