Technology chat classes help familiarize seniors with modern devices, such as iPhones, and there are a variety of fitness groups for members to develop balance and improve their health.
Florida Department of Veterans Affairs(727) 319-7440The Florida Department of Veterans Affairs is a state-funded organization with officers in Pinellas County that help U.S. military vets struggling with psychological issues, including depression and traumas related to their time in uniform. It can also connect vets to other services, such as Veterans Affairs, to help them access state, federal and military benefits. Additionally, it can refer vets with medical conditions to facilities within the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System.
Florida Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program(888) 831-0404Seniors in long-term care communities with concerns about their facilities can register complaints with the ombudsman, who will investigate and pursue resolutions on their behalf. Families of residents and third parties can also contact the ombudsman. Additionally, the department can release copies of inspection reports prior to a senior choosing a facility to help them make more informed decisions.
Seniors in Service(813) 932-5228Seniors in Service is a Tampa-based nonprofit that provides opportunities for adults aged 55 and older to help their communities in the counties of Pinellas, Pasco and Hillsborough. Volunteers can apply life and work skills already learned or be trained in something new. Typically, volunteers assist homebound seniors, mentor younger members of the community and support veterans and their families. The volunteer determines how much time they can spare, and Seniors in Service connects them to the most appropriate nonprofit in need of their help.
