The rooms are home like, staff are friendly, and the nurse is full of care and attention. She is available 24/7 and always answering my questions. There are activities for the weekend going on that I have not seen at other facilities. Fresh bread baking. Residents are happy and clean and taken care of. It's the best.

About AutumnGrove Cottage - Blanco - CLOSED in San Antonio, Texas
AutumnGrove Cottage™ is a sixteen resident, private-pay, assisted living home specializing in care for senior adults with Alzheimers disease and other dementia-related illnesses. To use an analogy, AutumnGrove Cottage™ is to the assisted living industry what a bed and breakfast is to the hotel industry. It is smaller, homelike in design and appearance, and personal. With only sixteen residents, the staff and families get to know each other in a very personal and intimate way.
We honor our families and proactively communicate and support them through this difficult time. We help families understand the importance of home care and hospice services allowing residents to live at AutumnGrove Cottage™ through end of life.
Our Difference: We honor the resident for the person that they are today, as well as who they were yesterday. We respect their dignity, optimize their individuality and focus on their remaining strengths and abilities. Everything we do centers around Alzheimers and memory care, from our building design, staffing requirements, to our training and education programs.
There are many aspects that make AutumnGrove Cottage™ a unique concept, but the two most important differences are design and focus.
Design From the moment you drive into the driveway, our cottage looks and feels like someones private home. This is one of the cornerstones in the AutumnGrove Cottage™ belief that people should be able to age in the same manner they are accustomed to living.
Focus Alzheimers and memory care is not something we do its ALL we do. Our caregivers are universal workers. They are responsible for every need of the resident throughout their day including grooming, bathing, activities, preparing and assisting with meals. Our caregivers get to know the residents preferences and provide more personalized care. Our staff-to-resident ratio is over two times higher than most traditional assisted living facilities.

The new manager Faith is also nurse and knows every patient and family. She’s very good with staff and she loves working with the elderly. Place smells clean, looks good and the location is centrally located and it is where I will place my mother

I was able to go inside Autumn Grove Cottages for a tour and I knew that it wasn't a place I would consider. It was one place that I wanted to rule out. They were very pleasant and nice. I don't have anything negative to say about the staff. However, they don't have bathrooms in the rooms where a person would live, and I am looking for a place that does, so I'm ruling this one out. It looked very clean to me. I didn't have any reason to think that it wasn't, it looked fine to me. I just didn't want my husband to be in a place where they didn't have bathrooms in the rooms. The staff, the people that I' met were very nice.

My mom is at AutumnGrove Cottage for about two months now. We chose it because it was small, and the managing director was a registered nurse. The staff were all very nice as well. Their food was fine as well.

We thought Autumn Grove Cottage was a nice place, but too small, and a little bigger place would be able to more reliably provide services. The rooms were fine, and they were clean. It was farther from my home than I wanted. The place we picked is within walking distance. They gave us all the information that we needed. I was less concerned about the prices than getting the righting the place, but I thought it was reasonable.

The staff was very responsive, and the facility is only about 12 beds, I think. They have sufficient staff to provide one on one service. It was a very loving community; we were very pleased with it. The rooms were small; it’s just a sleeping room basically, but they bring everybody out for meals for together. Most of them are Alzheimer’s patients, so they just stayed together in a large room, watched T.V, and read, and the staff was just right there to watch out for them. It was clean and well-kept. They take all their meals together. There’s a community bath; everybody accesses the same bath for showers, etcetera. We did take a meal or two there, and the food was very good. The large community room is made up of several tables with 6 to 8 chairs and one side, the kitchen is on one end, and the directors and nurses' room and offices are that same end. In the dining area, they have easy chairs, recliners, and several TVs for the residents to sit in. The dining area is part of that large community room. The inner off of the small parking area, you have to go through two coded gates, you have to have a four digit code to get through the first gate, and the same code to get through the second gate. If that gate stays open too long, the alarm sounds. Security is very tight and good. The staff and the very cheering nature of the director really impressed me. All of the nurses that served the place, the social worker, the other associated staff were always caring. It’s always comforting to know a very loving batch.

This is a beautiful, intimate facility. The bedrooms are all single rooms. The toilets and bathing facilities are off the hallways, so if you have someone who uses the toilet independently, it might be confusing, but it is not any different than using the bathroom down the hall in a regular house. The whole facility is set up to feel like a house. Meals are cooked in the kitchen which is open to the living/dining area. Residents are able to wander freely indoors and out. The outdoor area is beautifully landscaped, and there is a deep porch for sitting and relaxing. The staff was fully engaged with the residents, and everyone seemed to be having a great time when I visited.
