We chose Oxford for mother-in law, we felt they had competent staff, and would do what they said they would do. There were minor issues, but they made sure all our needs are met. They have a work-out room, they have several areas where they can do activities, and everything is conveniently located. There's a laundry upstairs that the residents can use, or they can have it done by the staff. They've had car shows, they do exercises every day, they go to movies, Walmart, and they go out for ice cream. Whatever the residents want to do, they add it to their activities. I can't complain about their activities. I've eaten there, I have no complaints with the food, and she liked it.

We are leaning towards The Oxford Grand at McKinney. The appearance was like the others. It was well kept. They had a lot of activities for the residents. The rooms were decent-sized, well-kept, and clean. The staff were knowledgeable and professional. I just chose this one mainly because of the nursing staff.

My mom was at The Oxford Grand at McKinney last year after her rehab. She did not like that place. It was fine for what she needed in the short term, but she wanted to go home. It was nice, and she said the caregivers were great, but the head nurse wasn't nice at all. She upset her the first day we were there and wasn't going to help her with her medication. That left a bad taste in my mouth because I thought she was intimidating my mom, who is still recovering from surgery, and I didn't like that about her. We had a couple of other bad experiences with that nurse, so that's one of the reasons she wanted to get out of there. Well, the caregivers, the med techs, and people that pretty much took care of her during the day and checked on everything, I would give them a five. But as far as the nursing staff I would not give even a three. I'd give them two. I thought she should have been reported to someone, by the way, she treated the residents. It was clean. It was pretty modern, not brand new. My mom wasn't that pleased with it, and she had an ant problem in her room that was pretty bad. They did eventually take care of it, but for a few days there it was just they were overrunning like her kitchen, and that took a few days to get taken care of. Besides that, it was clean. I wouldn't have let her stay there if it wasn't clean. Another thing, she paid to have her bed made every day, and she's supposed to have a bath companion three days a week, and that didn't always happen. They had activities. They met every day and visited, and had current events. They kind of tried to talk about things, to kind of keep their minds going, and they had exercise classes like chair exercises. They had people come in and do bingo and some concerts, people would come in, and groups would perform. So they had some good programs.
