We toured The Ivy of McKinney for my mother, and I liked all of it, but we just can't afford it. It seems like a great community. Everybody cares about each other. It seems like it was a great adult community. That's what it was like for me. They were eating during our tour, and they all seemed excited to go eat. The rooms were on the older side, but it was nothing bad. The place was very clean. It just seemed like an older community compared to the other facility I had gone to. They had a beauty shop, dining, and a theater. They had games, and they have like a social bar or something like that, like evening cocktails. They also have an elevator. They offer rides to all the local restaurants and Dairy Queen and that kind of stuff. The staff were very friendly. It's homey.

I toured The Ivy of McKinney. We are looking for upper assisted living or high functioning memory care, and they did not fit that at all. It's a large facility. It's three stories. It looked more like an apartment building. The gentleman I met was terrific, but my mother-in-law couldn't be on an upper floor. The community rooms were small. It was more for senior living without needing much assistance, so it was a definite no. I met two people, and they both were terrific. They were very nice and very helpful. From wandering through, it was not the type of facility that I think my mother-in-law needed. If you didn't need as much assistance as my mother-in-law, it might be something to look at. However, a three-story apartment building was not going to work for her. It wasn't that the facility was bad, it was not appropriate for my mother-in-law.

I went to The Ivy of McKinney. The director gave me the tour. I loved the community that there is in that facility. Everyone seems to love everyone. There was a lot of joking and laughter with each other. It was just wonderful to hear all the fun that the residents have. The apartments were roomy, clean, and absolutely perfect for my mother's needs. They had an exercise and craft area. It was absolutely clean, smelled fresh, and was just very good. I was actually there during their lunchtime, so I didn't see any activities other than them coming back and forth from the dining room.

I liked the staff of The Ivy of McKinney and its actual facilities. The rooms seemed clean. The residents were actively moving around and appeared to be well cared for. The rooms were a good size. Not too big, not too small but very homey with a little kitchenette area. That was a nice touch. They have a media room with a big screen TV where residents can come together and watch football games, which my mom loves. They also have a little library area where they play games/board games. I think the activities director was leading a group in a game. So, that was good to see.
