One of the main reasons why we are planning to choose Generations of Chapin for my mother-in-law is because of the location. It's 10 minutes away from the husband's home. I like the place better than the other place we toured. It seems more like a family atmosphere. Everyone was very friendly, and the facility itself was clean and nice. The only drawback with that one was they didn't seem to have as much security at the front door as the other place I toured. There's a desk right as you walk in. You sign in at the desk, but it's not as secure. Unlike the other place where they have an electronic sign, and they had to unlock the door for you. In this place, the door was unlocked. When you walk in, there's a desk to sign in with someone and a little office right there. We only met the people from management; they didn't make the effort so much. As we were walking around, we didn't see a lot of the caregivers as much. The room setup isn't as nice. They don't have a gym, but they have a TV room. They have two TVs set up in two places.

Generations of Chapin had more of an open atmosphere and a little bit of a country atmosphere. My mother would have more room in her actual room and it just seemed very nice and seemed to work for us. The staff was great. They have a calendar of activities that they share. They have church services and they have areas where people can sit down for conversations, or for games, or snacks. I liked that they have a very nice outdoor area, plus they have a large screened-in room and an actual sunroom where you could sit in. This place has been there for a while, but it seemed to appeal to the older generation because they feel more at home with things that have a little date on them. I really liked it.

Generations of Chapin is nowhere I would ever want to place my loved one. The owners/administration (all of which are family members with zero education, respect, or honesty) could care less about anything except one thing, money. The nurses and techs do their best but it's a rough place to say the least. There are more DHEC violations in there than stars in the sky. My guess, the owner has a friend in DHEC that he pays off. Also, this place is dirty, worn down, and needs major renovating. The administration does not care if the patients are happy and healthy, well of course, to the family's face they do. But genuinely, could care the less. Won't be long before DHEC, DSS, or the owners themselves close this place down. And once this place is gone, Chapin will be a better place for it

Generations is right in our neighborhood and right where I work. It had a waiting list, but they were the first ones to open up for my mom. She likes the place. The staff ratio is one caregiver to eight residents.
