Beautiful facility but our family was not happy with our Mother’s care. We had complaints about Nursing, Nurse Aides not being attentive, not getting her showers regularly, hair being left dirty, laundry problems, and problems with administration responding to our complaints. Our Mom was there for a year and 8 months. I asked on her admission day for the question to be answered if they accept Medicaid once our loved one runs out of money. I went to look at Elmwood Assisted Living at the Shawhan. They have a good staff that is helpful and caring. It's nice if you like nostalgia, as it's a bit retro. They have weekly outings, a salon, an ice cream parlor, bingo, and exercise. The food was good.

I had been to Elmwood, and that is a wonderful place. I thought they were very caring. The people that I visited there had their own little suites. These folks were not as disabled as my parents were. It was less of a nursing facility. It was in the Shawhan hotel, which was a hotel in the early 1900s. It was renovated and turned into a facility for Alzheimer's, and then they had assisted living. The staff was terrific. This assisted living facility was great. My grandpa was a resident after a surgery at one, and the staff treats you like you are one of their own family members. They are patient, understanding and will keep the family informed of everything that is going on. The facility was like a home away from home.
