I toured Brookdale Findlay. The lady there tried her darndest. My sister, who was my power of attorney, got her a little uptight, and one was that they required a guarantor. If I couldn't pay, somebody else would be on the hook for paying for me, which was a big no to my sister. If price had been the deciding factor, and that guarantor wasn't required, I probably would have gone to Brookdale. But the cost was almost $1,500 more. The room I saw was a studio apartment, but it had more or less a kitchenette.

We had a very good tour at Brookdale Findlay. The young lady that gave us a tour was quite knowledgeable. We were pleased with what she had available. We just didn't think it was a fit at this time. The other thing is that because it's just you could live there as independently, but because it's assisted living, they're charged assisted living prices. We saw a couple of apartments, two different sizes of one-bedrooms. They were pretty small, and they didn't have central air. They had window air conditioning, and my wife doesn't do that very well. It was a nice design, a little small, but laid out nicely. It had a small kitchen area. They had exercise rooms, meals included, and things like that. They had a lot of exercise programs. They had just about every all the amenities that we would have needed, but it was a little pricey. It was very well taken care of. It looked clean and updated.

Brookdale Findlay has an intercom system that can communicate right away with the residents, which is a nice thing. At this point, I think they're going to accommodate some of my mom's requests that she wasn't getting before. The place was also clean. If I had questions, the lady who toured me would stop to answer them, and was thorough about it. They got a courtyard, and the room that we picked out for mother would be near that side. So, everything seemed okay.

The staff at Brookdale Findlay seemed nice and answered questions as much as they could. Their dining area looked nice from what I could tell. The overall feel of the place was nice, and the building itself was in good condition.

Brookdale Findlay seemed like a nice, clean facility. The people were well taken care of. The rooms were nice. They were active with the people at the time we visited. The price seemed pretty good. It was very reasonable.

The activities person is fantastic and many of the folks there really seem to care, but the facility is under maintained and the staff seem stressed due to the chronic understaffing and staff turnover problems.

Sterling House of Findlay is a lot newer facility. The doors were wider, and getting into the shower would be nice and easier if my brother lived there. The staff was good. What I like about this facility is that it's a wheelchair-friendly place, and it is a lot more modern.

My mother has been a resident of the Sterling House for 4 years. She suffers from advanced stages of dementia. I can't imagine having her anywhere but the Sterling House. During these 4 years I have had many opportunities to observe the entire staff in their daily routines of caring for the residents. They are genuinely concerned with all aspects of their duties. Not just the physical care but, also their happiness and well being. This is something not easily achieved in the world of dementia care and they do it very well.

We are very pleased with the staff here. They are so friendly and have satisfactorily addressed any concern that we have had. Our aunt and uncle are very happy here. The meals seem to be very healthy and home cooked. I just can't speak highly enough of the staff and their friendliness. Everyone seems to be very happy in ther position at Sterling House and passionate about what they do...it's more than just a job.

My mother stayed in Sterling House. The rooms were nice. Some of the nurses were pretty nice, but some of the aides didn't take care of my mom very well. She ended up in the hospital with pneumonia, and the nurses there found that they hadn't kept my mom clean. They weren't also great at keeping the room clean, especially the bed. I had to do some cleaning myself. They were understaffed; that's probably why. The management was pretty bad. I would say in full disclosure that I was disputing the amount of the bill, since I had to provide a lot of care myself. When I had to travel to California to move my mom's stuff, I had hired a home health aide to come in and feed her extra meals. I wrote a letter saying I wanted to negotiate an equitable result, but it was just "Nope, you have to pay the whole thing."

Currently mom is at Sterling House of Findlay and I am not happy with the services she is receiving there. They are understaffed and they had the tendency to just send one staff for my mom instead of two to move her and that gives me some burden. The staff doesn’t seem to know what their policies are. My mom is severely underweight and I had to go there every day to cook for her. The chef said that they don’t have time to drop everything and give mom an extra meal. This is in response to my request of instead giving her a snack they should give her a bowl of soup or something nutritious. We also had issues with her laundry. I will be talking to their legal department or their financial department to cut off some of the money that they are charging us because I am doing so much work for her. Some of their nurses are really nice and they go out of their way to make sure my mom is comfortable. This is a good place for people who don't need higher level of care.

Sterling House is a nice facility. I really like Sterling House based on the fact that it's geared to those who have dementia and Alzheimer's really bad. Mother is in the early stages of dementia, if needs arise she can move here at Sterling House. This facility is an option in the future in case mother would need it. Their activity director was awesome and she was very, very good. I actually observed her dealing with a patient who has a dementia really bad or Alzheimer's and she was really dealing with that so well. She gets the people so involved. For the people who were scared to get out and interact, she was able to encourage them to come and join the fun. You can tell that she can really deal with the people well.
