I like the fact that The Glen has all levels of care, so it's not just a nursing home. There's independent living, assisted living, a rehab, and then there's the nursing home portion, where my dad is. I think it's a little more lively place because it has a mix of people. They do a really nice job with the activities for the residents and keeping the families updated on the status of their residents. My dad fell once, so and they immediately called my sister who lives there locally. They told her what happened. They continued to monitor him after that. The level of care seems to be very, very good. They pay attention to things. They also have things like a beauty salon, a barbershop, nail salon, physical therapy on site, transportation, and a lot more. It's really nice.

The Glen was apparently a new building and it was beautiful, but it didn't seem as interactive. I checked their memory care. I was there on a Saturday, so I didn't get to see as much interaction as I probably would during the week. It seemed to be a little bit more clinical, but it was a gorgeous new building and it had all the amenities.

I toured The Glen for my mom. We were ninth on the list, which was why we had to go to our second choice. It would have been our first choice. It was beautiful. It was very maintained and well taken care of. They had a dining area. If you had a big family gathering, there was a special room that you could rent out. People were very friendly. I remember there was someone playing the piano. It felt kind of relaxed. It was a nice place to visit. The staff was friendly as we walked down the hall. They had the same activities as the other place. They had gardening and flower arranging, which was something my mother would like. You can exercise while sitting in your wheelchair. We went at lunch time, and it smelled wonderful. They even had a snack bar. They had movies that you could go to and sit in the movie room. They served popcorn there. I'm not into alcohol, but they also have a certain time of the day where you could go and have a drink. They showed us an empty room, and it was very nice, big, and roomy. The staff who assisted us answered all our questions. They were patient with us. They said something, and then they had to repeat it because we didn't get it the first time. They were helpful.

My mother is at The Glen. It seemed like the most appropriate place for the needs of my mom at this time. The staff has been very helpful. The room is set up really nicely. The bathroom really accommodates her being able to move around in a wheelchair. So far, everyone has been extremely helpful, and always courteous and kind. The dining area is very nice, but due to the COVID situation, they're not actually eating in the dining room. She says the food is very good. It's kind of hard to rate the experience in the dining room because they are just trying to get back to being able to actually use it. There is an activity program, and they recently had a Chinese New Year party. It's kind of hard to rate what it would be outside of the COVID situation because they're limited on what they can do at the moment because of the restrictions in our state due to COVID, as far as taking the seniors out on trips. The activity director has plans for outdoor gardening projects, and trips, and entertainment coming in. My mother has only been there a little bit, so I don't really know what all has happened. She was just getting settled in, and due to the COVID situation, so many of the things they would be doing, they can't do at this time. I know they are doing craft classes, and having some entertainment streamed, and small group parties. I believe everybody has done the very best they can to try to make my mother feel comfortable and welcomed. She says the food is good. Everything's very clean and nice looking, and seems to be kept up well. We had a few issues when she first moved in. We had a door that had to be fixed. It's not actually their fault, they can't do a lot right at the moment. Price is pretty comparable to other places in our area. As she declines, they actually have the full skilled nursing side of their community.

So far, our experience with The Glen has been great and the staff is very caring. My aunt had to spend a couple of weeks in the nursing unit to get her strength back. They sat down with me, I met with the head chef, the activities director, the executive director, the social worker, and the nurse in charge. We sat in the conference room and we discussed what my aunt's needs would be and how best to meet them. In terms of activities, you name it and they offer it. Yesterday, some of the ladies got together and they baked cookies, and they also have a little putt-putt area. The residents can come and go as they please, and the community is right next to a park. The dining experience is like a five-star restaurant, because they serve you, and they have good selections. Also they have a couple of coffee shops, and a salon. My aunt's room is a studio apartment, there's a kitchenette with a microwave, a half refrigerator, and a sink. She has a nice full bathroom with a seat in the shower.
