"My father is currently living in this facility after a move from out of state. He was diagnosed with advancing dementia and became too difficult to manage at home. We were very displeased with the care that we saw in his facility in CA, but we have been wonderfully surprised with how well the staff at ManorCare cater to my father. I guess there are 2 different "sides" to the building--one where they do a lot of intensive rehabilitation and the side where my father lives, where it is more home-like. I can't speak to the other side, but the aides and nurses on the "long-term" side are very warm and nurturing. And the caring mentality goes all the way to the top--there was a time when my father was having some increased behaviors, and we were called in for a meeting. I was worried he was going to be kicked out, but the administrative staff wanted to sit and discuss different alternatives and ideas about what could be done. We were able to come up with some plans, and things have been better. There was also a fantastic winter party before Christmas where all the staff interacted with the patients, handed out presents, and entertained all the families. Overall, this is a top notch place that I would recommend to anyone. "

"I placed mom at Cottesmore Life Care last August. We like this facility very much. She is in a double room, and it's sufficient for her with lots of closet space. The facility is very nice, and the staff is really good. "

"Penrose Harbor was nice, the staff was very friendly and outgoing. It was just way more expensive than the one we chose. It was new, so it was very clean and nice, the memory care facility was also nice. It was great. They painted the doors like bookshelves so that the patients would think they were just bookshelves and wouldn't go out. There were just little things they did that were nice. Both of the people that we met were nice and friendly, everything was fine about the place. The facility was very nice."

"I am currently staying at Franke Tobey Jones Retirement Estates and it is a fabulous place. It is a continuous care community on a very large piece of property that's beautiful with independent duplexes and nice apartments for independent living, so you buy into it. They have 21 duplexes. I'm in one of the 2-bedroom duplexes with a kitchen, a garage, and a back porch. All my maintenance is taken care of. The gardens are taken care of. To get a duplex and live here, I had to put down $150,000, which I could get back partially if I left within five years, and then every month I pay rent. The meals in the duplexes are not included, but you can add that service just like you can have housekeeping service if you want, instead of doing it yourself. They are like senior universities. They offer lots and lots of things to do both on campus and off campus, and via the Internet. They also have a gym, exercise classes daily, art classes, woodworking shops, and movies. You just call maintenance and they come over, and you can call security if you have any concerns. I could not be happier and safer."

"I found the work ethics of the staff at University Place Care Center to be diligent, preserving, professional, and caring at all times; it was exemplary. The rooms were very accommodating and came with curtains. The dining room and the patient did not need a room to participate in the dining room activities, but I visited the dining room several times. I found it to be very energetic and refreshing experience. The patients all seemed to be enjoying various social activities at the time of my visit. Numerous activities provided to invigorate and energize the patients. As for the food, the patient is a very particular eater, but she had no complaints about the food either on the portion size, the quality, or variety. I am very positive about the experience and have no complaints. "

"My brother is currently in Birch Creek Post Acute & Rehabilitation in Tacoma, and I like it. He likes it there, too, and he gets what he needs. They have a mix of people there. There are veterans, and there are seniors staying there. It's like a rehab plus senior living. I see all kinds of people there, even those a lot younger than me in wheelchairs. I've interacted with the staff, too, and they're really good. The nurses are really friendly, so my brother likes it there. They have a very large staff that's continually taking care of people, and everybody I've spoken with is really nice and outgoing. My brother has to share a room with another person who is incontinent, so it smells sometimes, but I understand. They also have a solid partition separating them. Other than that, the facility is always very presentable whenever I walk in. They have a nice place to sit down. It's a nice area, like a living room with chairs and stuff, where people come to visit their people. I always have a comfortable time there. There's never a dull moment, so it's good."

"My friend is in Avamere at Pacific Ridge under palliative care. They're keeping her drugged, so that she's not uncomfortable. That's probably the best thing about it. The facility is not as clean as I would like. She does not have a private room, and she doesn't have a TV nor a radio. She's bedridden, and she's not really lucid. They just bring the food to her, and she hates it because she doesn't have a choice."

"I've been in Alaska Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center for eight months now. I got another person in the room with me. I'm in what they consider the long-term area. I'm here past the time they expected me to be here, I was supposed to be moving on. They've got a whole lot of people that work with exercise and manipulation to help you walk again. They teach them how to use oversize eating equipment so that they can get started using their hands. They do quite a good job. The staff is anywhere from beginners up to the top, there are people in here that have been with the company eight, ten years, maybe longer. Some are beginners, or in the middle, and they all work to teach each other. They learned from each other. There's always a master, it's a craft, one of the ones who's very knowledgeable. There's always at least one, if not more, on duty at any one time, and they run from six in the morning till two in the afternoon, and then from two until ten at night, and then another crew goes on from ten until six the next morning. So they are in a three-shift building. They have Medicare. They have another section and my long-term care. There's a large dining room, otherwise, they have carts, they bring the food to the rooms. Right now we're working with this virus, so they load up the carts and bring the carts up to be delivered to each room. And that's breakfast, lunch, and dinner."

"This rehab is a very nurturing & friendly place. The CNA staff is above average in caring, patience & promptness to call lites. They are friendly & always willing to do what it took to make the patients comfortable. The folks who provide physical & occupational therapy are excellent at what they do. They tailor the programs to do the most good for the individual, without making it overly taxing. It was fun to do the exercises because the technicians found ways to make it fun & relaxing. I could feel myself getting stronger as I followed their suggested exercise schedule. I appreciated the sense of humor & genuine feeling of being cared for. The nurses were excellent as well. I was impressed by their genuine concern for my comfort & medicinal needs. These nurses all had a deep commitment to the patient's well being. They were dedicated & professional. The admin staff were also highly concerned with the care & comfort of the patients. The smallest issues or questions I had were addressed with promptness & professionalism. They all had a good sense of humor as well. I got the impression they really loved their jobs & helping people. Oh, I can't say enough about the food. The chef prepared food so good & nicely plated that you forget he's cooking for so many people & think he's just made your meal alone. He even garnished with parsley! My room mate & I really noticed when he took days off. He even came to individual's rooms to take meal preferences for the weekend. The folks at this facility gave me a sense of well being. I felt like they really cared about improving my health conditions. I highly recommend this rehab facility. I will return to recover after my knee replacement surgery in the near future. The only negative comments I could make would be the housekeeping, or lack of it. I didn't care if the floors didn't get swept or mopped regularly because I preferred to focus on the great care they gave me. But, in the month I was there, in two different rooms I only remember the floors being swept or mopped maybe twice. Once was to clean up glass breakage on the floor. Hopefully, the housekeeping practices will improve. "

"I recently had the opportunity to tour the Vashon Community Care Center which is located on Vashon Island in Washington State. I found the care center to be a model of what assisted living facilities should be. The staff was welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly and the living spaces throughout the facility were clean, bright and cheerful. Residents were given many recreational and socializing opportunities - including planting flowers is waist high raised garden beds that don't require bending, learning how to bake bread, and regularly scheduled movie nights. The dining room was inviting with a homey feel and residents are free to enjoy meal services throughout the day. Most unique is that the Vashon Community Care Center allows resident who are able to care for pets to have small dogs and cats living with them and for those without their own pets, the facility itself has several loving cats that provide beneficial companionship to residents at the center. Two thumbs up all around. "

"I stayed at Avalon Care Center for about a year or two, and I liked it there. I had a good experience there. It was nice. I was with another lady that was in the room who was kind of goofy. Cleanliness and maintenance were good. The food was OK, nothing special. The staff was pretty cool, and I liked them, but I didn't like the residents because they were a little goofy."

"I have been here at Heartwood EC since 2021.When I got here I would have given it 1-2 stars but now that they have a new administration in place the difference is night and day.In the past the food was horrible, some of the staff seemed indifferent to patient needs and there was an overall lack of accountability. However since the new administrator has been here those issues have been resolved. The food is good, the staff seem more engaged and there is accountability and structure.More importantly patients feel like we are being heard because he takes the time to be hands on in problem solving and listening to the patient needs. So far all of the higher ups I have communicated with Have all promptly responded to me either in person or by email to address whatever concerns I have had.Even though there is always room for improvement I would give this place a solid 4 out of 5 stars and would recommend it for your family members. As a patient here I can say that the old reviews that were bad are definitely outdated."

"My wife has lived at Kindred for over two years and, while the facility is showing its age the people are fantastic. The care staff has been pro active in dealing with issues that have cropped up from time to time and, as my wife's situation has become more complex they have helped me to deal more effectively. I highly recommend this facility whether for yourself or for a loved one. "

"My mother-in-law stayed at Garden Terrace while she recuperated from surgery on her leg. Some members of the staff, at first, were kind of difficult for her to get along with, in the beginning. But it didn't take long before we saw that they were caring, professional, friendly and surprisingly easy-going. I also love the fact that they have a freezer full of ice cream for both patients and visitors. Personally, I don't think I've eaten so much rainbow sherbet in my life as I have when I was visiting my mother-in-law there; and we visited with her a lot. Though I never ate any of the food, I have to admit that the food that my mother-in-law did eat looked incredibly unappetizing. That, and the fact that the entertainment department insisted on showing Lawrence Welk (how cliche) nightly in the recreation room, was rather disappointing. Again, I never actually participated in recreation activities, but my mother-in-law and I would always make jokes about how dull the activities seemed. Those would be the only knocks I have on this place. But they're minor to me, because I expect tastes differ from mine (and my mother-in-law's) and other people's. "
