I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is at Mt. Arlington Senior Living. It is a great place. The one with whom we signed up was great. The only negative is that my mother complains about the food, but my mother complains about food all the time. I've only been there for events, like Mother's Day and stuff like that, and I thought the food was fine. The staff there are like family. They are super friendly, helpful, and accessible. Any time I need to reach the health office, they're available. They treat my mom very well and respectfully. They look out for her and seem to do that with all the residents. The residents seem to get along very well. There are a lot of activities for them every day, like happy hour. They offer transportation. The facility is gorgeous. It's like living in a five-star hotel. It's bright and cheery. All of the rooms are facing the sun. Everything is spotless. They have arts and crafts. They offer bingo, entertainment that comes in, and music. We chose it because of the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff. They have people on 24-7, which was the big thing that we needed.

Provider Response

Carolyn, we’re so happy to hear that you and your mom have had such a positive experience in our community. Our team takes pride in creating a warm, friendly, and supportive environment, and it’s wonderful to know you feel like family here. We appreciate hearing your mom's feedback on the food and will continue working hard to meet everyone's tastes. We are honored you chose Mt. Arlington Senior Living and are touched by your wonderful review.

I visited this facility

We chose Mt. Arlington Senior Living. I felt like there was a lot of warmth, and it didn't feel like an institution. The rooms were clean, pretty modern, and pretty spacious. What I like about this place is that no matter what we got, it was pretty much the same price. It felt like home. We saw other communities and they were probably aesthetically and more pleasing, but this one just felt like home and there's a lot of love and care. The staff who gave me the tour was John, and he was very knowledgeable, very patient, and very caring. The dining area was nice and accommodating and smelled good. My mom is currently on their waiting list.

Provider Response

Mirtha -- thank you for exploring Mt. Arlington Senior Living and for sharing your thoughts on that visit. We are touched to read that you immediately felt the warm and caring nature of the community, and walked away knowing this was the perfect place for your mom. We appreciate your compliments for the community -- and your shout out for Jon -- and look forward to welcoming your mom to her new home.

I visited this facility

My father was denied admission after I had already completed the majority of all paperwork and tests and put a deposit down. The director called me on the phone and told me they could not admit my father because he did not speak or understand English well enough. My father is bilingual but because he has Alzheimer's has reverted back to speaking his native language that he grew up with. I explained that he does understand English but he also has a hearing disability caused by working in a factory most of his life. I was told that is also why they cannot admit him. Don't know how they can do that but they did.

Provider Response

I am the Executive Director and wanted to assure you that we never take a denial of a new resident lightly. Our team uses a multifaceted approach to evaluate if a resident will thrive in our community, as we have an obligation to provide a safe, secure and socially active environment for each resident. Acceptance of a resident is only done after the full assessment is complete and apologize if that part of the process was not clear. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or need additional referrals to skilled nursing communities, and we wish your father the best. Regards, Richard.

My brother is currently living at Mt. Arlington Senior Living for almost 2 years now. It is very clean. Everything is extremely updated. They have a lot of activities. They have bus rides to different stores like ShopRite, Walmart. They always plan a nice lunch out at local restaurants. They have a lot to do, not just those when you think of old people with crafts and all. I guess they have that too, but they offer a lot more than just that. They have a program where it's physical, like a little exercise. They offer yoga and some other things like going out for walks and things like that. My brother is a little difficult, and they've been handling him. They're good with him. The staff members were friendly and very helpful. My brother likes the food. He doesn't normally will remember what he ate, and he always says it's good. He enjoys their menu. They have a good chef up there; I've met him. They keep everything spotless. During the COVID, they did very strict protocols and kept everyone safe. Even though my brother doesn't partake in the activities, there's something to do all the time.

I lived right down the street from Mt. Arlington Senior Living. The staff was very personable. They were communicative and very knowledgeable about everything. The people that I spoke with seemed to be very good. Everything was really good. It was modern, and everything was well maintained. It was a very nice-looking place. It seemed like they had more amenities than the other facility. They had a bar and more activities.

I visited this facility

Mt. Arlington Senior Living was not as cared for or well-maintained as other places. The wallpaper was peeling off the ceiling, the seams, and the wall. It looked kind of old, even though it was only maybe 15-years-old, and I just got the feeling it was cared for very well. The rooms didn't seem to be as amiable, and I didn't get a good impression of the property. I wasn't impressed by their facility, so I was kind of disappointed.

Nice Facility food is good but they did not provide enough assistance for our mother. She fell multiple times and resorted to use a wheelchair. and was always forced to go to rehab before being allowed to return to her apartment. We moved her to a different facility which provides more one on one care and they had her walking within 10 days of arriving. She is doing great. We have spoken to other families that experienced the same thing.

We had my 86-year-old mother stay here while my husband and I took a short vacation. She absolutely loved it! The staff is wonderful - you can tell they truly love taking care of people. There are a variety of activities every day, so she was never bored. The food was plentiful, healthy, and cooked just right. The rooms are comfortable and have individual temperature controls. The full-time residents all seem very happy to be there too. If you are looking for respite care, plan well in advance. The minimum stay is two weeks. The potential resident has to see their doctor for medical clearance and a TB test, and you will have to get all of their medications (even OTC) packaged by a pharmacy. Then there's a visit for an evaluation by the facility's own nurse, and a stack of forms to fill out. So it's not as fast or easy as checking into a hotel; but worth the trouble. We had absolutely no worries while we were away because we knew mom was in excellent hands! The cost for two weeks was $3500. (Check or money order only, no credit cards) As other reviewers have mentioned, they do seem pretty interested in your money. We had to disclose all of her financial information even though mom was not going to be a permanent resident, which bothered me because it's really none of their business. I'm pretty sure that's a common practice in the industry though.

I like Mt. Arlington Senior Living. It is very clean and has been very good to my loved one for 14 years. The staff has been very good. The only complaint I have is that they do not respond to your telephone calls quickly. They have activities like bingo. He is in a two-bedroom unit with a shared bathroom and kitchen area.

I visited this facility

I liked the facility of Mt. Arlington very much, but I felt like I got a brush-off from the marketing director who I spoke with. It was almost like my mother did not have enough money to go in there. As soon as I told them my mother probably had enough money for about a year, and then she would be on Medicaid, I kind of felt like I got shunned a little bit. I thought the facility itself was beautiful -- the setting, the proximity and the cleanliness of it, and how the dining rooms were. I thought it was a very nice facility. The person who I talked to, and I am thinking she might have been a marketing director or something, she wasn't very helpful to me. I think she kind of thought it was too expensive for my mother and that she didn't have enough money. Other than that, it was very accommodating. Like I said, the facility was very nice, but it was not in my mother's financial range. I saw a sample room and it was very, very nice. The residents who I talked to, they all spoke very highly of the place.

Mt. Arlington Senior Living was running a special price and it was great. They had everything else that all the other facilities had with at least $1000 less. They have a lot of activities. She loves bingo. They do movie nights. They also take the residents out, but she has not gone out yet. They have a bus that takes the residents out. They also have Catholic mass. The amenities are fabulous. The only thing that I can suggest is that they could have more evening activities because she gets a little bored in the evening and they only have evening activities once or twice a week, but I could talk to them about that and it's not a big deal. The staff are very good. They are very responsive. We had a problem with the first room and they fixed it for us. It's been great. We ate there the first night and the food is very good. The aides are very caring and attentive. The nurses are on the right path. There's a doctor that goes in twice a week which I think is great. They also have a podiatrist. They have a beauty parlor which she loves.

Mt. Arlington is a little ranch facility. The accommodations were very nice. It's not particularly large but it's alright. There were a lot of activities for the people. My mother came with me the second time I visited and she liked the feel of it. She is a pretty active 86-year-old person, so she wants to go to an atmosphere where people do fun things and do all sorts of exercises that can keep them busy and that's what she wants. I feel Mt. Arlington could provide those for her. They also had a section for memory loss situation but it was not part of the facility. One minus point for Mt. Arlington was that, if you find yourself requiring full-time nursing care, you would have to bring in private duty nurses. You would not be moved from your apartment to a nursing facility. They don't have that.

If appearances and friendliness of the staff were all that counted Mt. Arlington would have a high rating. However, one must take a closer look at the managment and get everything in writing. Be wary of their procedures especially when low on funds.

Seemed like a nice facility. My father seemed to like it. It appeared clean. Some of the staff seemed friendly, but a few seemed like we were interrupting them. I may go back.
