My sister-in-law is very happy with Sunrise of Morris Plains. The facility is nice and the people are very nice. Some are certainly more helpful than others. It's near us so I visit her. The location is perfect. The facilities are clean. They have activities, but it's difficult for anyone who moved in an assisted facility, and they almost need to be ushered into the activities because it's a new situation for older people. They need to make a real effort to introduce them to things and really get them involved because otherwise they become as alone as when they're at home. It has a front porch. It's more like a home as opposed to an institution, which is a plus for them. The staff has been very friendly, but I have not been there for meals because I've had complaints from her about the service staff. The facility is very attractive. It has a place where you can go and have a cup of tea during the day (kind of like a bistro). The dining room is attractive. She likes her room the way we decorated it. They have a vehicle that takes them to the shopping area. They did have a rule which I am trying to change. There's a shopping area within walking distance, but they have to have two people to use it, which I think is a mistake. If one person wants to go shop, they should be able to go there because it's only five minutes from where they are. They have Bingo and games and they have a list of activities.

I toured Sunrise of Morris Plains, and I liked it very, very much. It's a beautiful facility. The people were lovely, and the pricing, I thought, was very fair for assisted living. It was more accommodating for skilled nursing and for what my mother needed. The staff was very helpful. It was very bright and airy, and it was a great and convenient location. The rooms were really beautiful. I loved the design of the rooms. They were somewhat different, but I really liked the design of the rooms. They had a window on each apartment that opened out into the hall. The facility was really nice. They had like a roll in shower and a nurse's station with one nurse onsite.

Sunrise of Morris Plains seemed to be a very clean and homey kind of place. The room I saw was nice. It looked like a nice place and I'd be very comfortable with my parents living there. The staff who gave me the tour knew what they were doing and followed up a lot. The did their best to accommodate. The dining area looked nice. They were having some sort of singalong when I was there.

I spoke with Kimberly there at Sunrise of Morris Plains and I got an excellent tour. I didn't taste their food, but I spoke to some of the residents and they said that the food is very good. They're known for having an older dog, and he just roams around and all the residents like him. They had some entertainment when I was there, and they wheeled some patients outside because it just happened to be a very nice day. They're very friendly, and it was just like being home. They go over to anyone who is alone and they ask them how they're doing and if they want anything. I thought that was very nice. They had all the residents downstairs even though they had issues with memory, but they still want to include them. I saw the assisted living section and they're doing it over. It's a beautiful community, with big wide doorways, and they're wide enough to get into the bathroom. Everything was very well-thought and planned out. They have beautiful flowers outside. It was all very nice and I'm very impressed with them.

Sunrise of Morris Plains have different levels of care. It’s really a nice place -- very clean -- and the air conditioning was great. The staff seems very good, and the rooms were nice. The food is good too. Everything about Sunrise is on the highest level.

The people at Sunrise of Morris Plains were very pleasant and welcoming during my tour. The place was very nice. The rooms were nice and clean as well. They were doing puzzles and they have beauty salons. Their residents were out and about and not just in their rooms and that was very good.

The rooms at Sunrise of Morris Plains were very nice and had both one-bedroom and the two-bedrooms available. I had a little problem with its outdoors; I think my husband would have been restricted because they didn’t have walls high enough for him. He’s quite physical and is just not going to sit in a rocking chair, which would be so much easier if he did, and has escaped before. It was lunch time, so they were all eating, but the group my husband would be in had their own little space to eat, which was fine. They brought the food on a hot cart so everything was hot. Everything was fine, except that I didn’t want him to be just kind of confined to a couple of rooms with his situation.

Sunrise is a true dissapointment based on the lack of caring for residents. Lack of communication from leadership and inconsistent treatment of care givers. Best to look further at other facilities for your loved ones.

My father, 92, went for a Respite stay of about a month, March 2015 after rehab. Very clean facility, sociable, caring staff, meals were considered excellent. He said they didn't check on him as often as he expected, but it was likely as often as needed, and there were no problems.

Sunrise of Morris Plains was a beautiful facility. The person that met us was extremely helpful and gave us a lot of good information that helped us make a decision. She was very upfront about the cost and the amenities. It was really a very good experience. Everything was spotless. The dining facility looked like a small restaurant. The residents that we saw as we were taking the tour all seemed very engaged. There was a whole host of activities posted on a large community board and there were three or four things going on everyday. There were a lot of things for people to choose from to do.

There are a few Sunrise facilities, but the one we visited is in Morris Plains. It is very nice, but it is more institutional. It is a big building, and when you went inside it is more hospital-like. We weren't that happy with them.

I visited Sunrise of Morris Plains and it was a very good experience. The housing facilities themselves were clean and they were very pleasant. They were very warm and comfortable. The communal areas were people dine and socialize were active and very positive. The staff was incredibly helpful and it was all very, very good. The rooms were very spacious and very comfortable both in the memory care facility as well as the regular main floors. Everything was modern, well-kept, and in really good shape. I like the location and I like that the overall environment is very positive.

Sunrise of Morris Plains was located next to our town so I went to visit. It seemed like a well-staffed facility. They had a very pleasant environment and had plenty of activities for the seniors. They served three meals a day. There were different types of room like a one bedroom studio and two bedroom studio. I would commend this place to others.

Sunrise is much closer to my mother's doctors and our family members. I'm sure Sunrise's services were good and the staff was nice but the place was just too expensive.

I spoke with the director at the facility and was given a tour of the facility. The director also introduced me to the staff and to several elderly individuals living at the facility. He showed me the inside of several rooms that I could choose from for my family member. Each room had a bed and nightstand. Some rooms had dining room tables and televisions. He also showed me the eating facility where the residents were provided three meals a day. He invited me to come back to the facility with my loved one and bring them for lunch one day the following week. I was able to speak with several residents and ask them about their experience at the assisted living facility. Many of the residents were very happy to be at the facility. There was even several dogs that wandered around the building whom the residents enjoyed playing with.

Sunrise homes are pretty generic, and there are quite a few in the area. My grandmother was always pleased, and never complained about the service. Personally, I felt there could always be more day trips or social activities but unfortunately this is pretty standard in such facilities.Card and board games, weekly gatherings and (of course) church were well advertised and put on without much complication. The fact the facility was down the road from a food store was helpful to those who could walk there. Mass transit is also nearby, as the facility is on route 202.All in all I think this place is good for those who feel the need to be independent but appreciate that small-town feel. There is renovation currently going on next door (they are building condominiums) but otherwise the land is surrounded by trees. I do not know how much it costs as I was not privy to those discussion, but I know my grandmother (and us) loved it.

My grandmother was a resident of this assisted facility while struggling with emphysema along with pulmonary hypertension. She is no longer with us, but during her time at the facility she has many complaints and horror stories. Most of the nurses were unkind to her and were often scolding her for things she couldn't help. She often said they treated her like a child and would sometimes ignore her. One particular story that stuck with me was when she had asked for assistance using the bathroom because she was took weak to walk on her own. The nurse told her to just go in her adult diaper. Needless to say, my family and I were quite appalled at the nurses behavior and moved her into our home on hospice for her last days of living.
