If I could give this place negative stars, I would. I am writing this review a day after my 84-year-old father was released from the Maywood Center for Health and Rehabilitation. I needed to calm down before I sat down to write this. DO NOT put your loved on into this center. My father was placed there to receive physical therapy for his back after a stay in the hospital. In his time there my family called at least 3 to 6 times a day to get updates. He was on the 2nd floor and we were put through to the 2nd floor nurses station. Not one time did someone answer the phone at the nurses’ station. NOT ONE TIME in the week that he was there and calling several times a day. My sister was able to get updates from the head nurse because she was given his direct number. If it wasn’t for this, we would not have know anything that was going on with him. His social worker would leave messages that he was fine. He was depressed because “who wouldn’t be in a place like this”. The messages were not a clinical assessment of his condition, physical or mental. It was her opinion based on limited contact. When asked about his eating habits or physical therapy her reply was “how should I know?”. The last evening he was there they moved his room. They put him in wheelchair and left him in a room with another resident who was extremely ill, moaning and soiling himself. He was not fed. The bed in the room for him was not made. No sheets or bedding. He had to sleep on an unmade bed. On his return home he was traumatized. Saying over and over how the place “hated people”. I was shaking and in tears to see his condition, which was WORSE than when he went in. Please do not put your loved ones in this place. The only bright spot was the one head nurse. His health paid the greatest price for having been placed in the Maywood Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

Share review Embed review Write an update Edit review 4/16/2020 The food at this place is inedible and not even good for you.. so if the virus doesn't get the residents the food will certainly play a role in limiting life span. My mother is a resident and goes to bed hungry ( almost every day) as the food disgusting. The place was bearable when we could deliver, now they have banned all deliveries, even if the food is prepackaged heat and eat. Description of items: Whole wheat bread, is actually colored white bread check ingredients, processed cheese is vegetable oil based not the real at all, thick white dough pizza disc with a few sprinkles of mozzarella (should be banned).. meat disgusting, canned fruit only (fresh banana available only on request). I can go on and on item by item. Yet the hypocrisy of the place.. in these trying times they have forbidden any nutritious GMO free, natural prepackaged deliveries from Whole Foods or Costco to supplement poor nutritional quality, even though we're paying for it!! One would think the vendors supply the "Four Seasons" when in reality what they supply is a low grade institutional menu. There are Nursing Homes in Bergen county with a more conscientious management that knows the path to good health is good nutrition. Stay away!

Warm, caring staff, excellent rehab and clean facility....no bad smells whatsoever...a truly pleasant experience and head over heels above other area rehabs. We've been to several others with our aging relatives and Maywood Center is by far, the best. Front desk reception is pleasant, visiting hours are extensive and they have been very accommodating. The rehab dept is top shelf. Highly recommended! Hallways are wider than others, rooms are larger as it is a newer building. Located in a neighborhood setting with Maywood Senior Center next door.

Our mom was placed in the subacute section recently of The Maywood Center after having surgery. The nursing staff provided excellent care for her and were very caring and attentive. The rehab staff also did an excellent job getting her back to her independent routine. She was happy with the daily food choices and the meals. She got a good book from the library and was happy reading away for some of her time there. Overall very good stay and came home a day early.

My mom rehabbed at Maywood after a hip replacement. The staff is caring and friendly. The center is bright and airy and has no bad smells like other nursing centers. The rooms were large and clean. The physical therapy department got my mom back to where she was before her fall. I truly appreciate all the love and support for my mom and myself. I highly recommend Maywood Center.

Please do not send your loved ones to the facility. My dad has been there three weeks has bone cancer and has fallen three times. They are understaffed and inadequately trained. There are only a handful of nurses and aides who actually care. Majority of the workers and administrators could care less about their patients and/or the families of their patients.

As a resident of Maywood for 30 years I chose this facility to be close to my mom because they present themselves as a subacute center. The choice to put my mother in this facility was the biggest mistake of my life. This facility is under staffed, under qualified, and under equipped to be a subacute center. Recently when my mother was at the facility, I went there find her there in respiratory distress with no staff with her. Then I tried to help my mother and I had to call 911 myself at the facility! It wasn’t until the police and EMT’s came that a staff member came into the room. My mother was transferred to Hackensack Hospital. I went a week later to speak to the director of nursing and she had know knowledge of this incident, nor did she know that my mother was not in her facility! I would strongly suggest, that if you are looking for subacute center do not choose this one. My beloved mother has passed and I’m truly heartbroken. Vivian V. Maywood, NJ

My aunt was there and i so much appreciate the level care that was provided. The nurse was very friendly and empathetic to her needs. She left there so much better and to date, she continues to maintain her independence.

I liked Maywood Center for Health & Rehabilitation the best. My mother was there for rehab. It was clean and well organized and seemed to have fairly good care. The food was terrible. It was in a very good, convenient location. I did complain about a CNA who wanted my mother to wear diapers when my mother was perfectly capable of going to the bathroom. After finding that out, I did not allow her to come near my mom. All of the rooms were a nice size and had fairly good views. My mom shared a room with somebody else, but they were comfortable. She was very well taken care of during the time she was there.
Provider Response
Thank you for your honest feedback, as this helps us improve. We are glad your mothers’ recovery went well and are glad she was comfortable during her stay. We are sorry she did not enjoy the food. We make every effort to provide nutritious and tasty meals, and are always happy to try to accommodate diets and preferences whenever possible. Regarding your comments about the CNA, we would like to speak with you further, if you so desire, so we can look into this. Please feel free to contact Stacey Wilbur, our administrator.

The instance you walk into Maywood Center for Health and Rehabilitation you feel a sense of relief it was very nice and very calming for my mother. She was brought up to a beautiful room and she had a lovely room mate, The staff made her feel wonderful. It was just an incredible experience.

It was very difficult because you could see that people were really having a rough time. Mentally, they weren’t in good shape, and they were sort of hanging around in the hallways, so when you first come in, that’s what you see at Maywood Center -- people in their wheelchairs hanging around, and it doesn’t throw you in to bring your relative there if your relative is alert. I’ve heard very good things about this home. I’ve had several friends who had relatives there, and they said the staff was absolutely outstanding. They take care of the people very well and make sure they’re fed. So I went because friends told me how wonderful it was for relatives who had Alzheimer’s, and that’s why we went to take a look at it. The rooms probably were much larger than the room where my relative is now. I don’t believe they were private rooms. It is close by, and they take Medicare -- which when someone needs to go on Medicare might be a choice down the road.

The facility is beautiful, the management I have observed is very harassing and aggressive toward the nurses I asked for my mom to be medicated for pain, the ADON Nash his name told the nurse who was in the middle of an emergency to stop what she was doing and medicate my mother? What? I would never expect anyone to stop an emergency situation the nurse asked him to medicate my mom he stated its your job do it, I was just beside myself in what I was was seeing and hearing why couldn't he medicate my mom, the nurse did come a few minutes later apologizing up and down for the wait I was so angry not at her but the attitude of this man how he treated this woman and allied my mom to stay in pain when he could have very easily medicated her, God sees all what comes around, my Mom is no longer there and will never return there as long as he's there sorry pure garbage

My mother, after being in septic shock and in the hospital for three weeks, we thought we were sending her to a place that would provide loving care, patience, etc., but instead they chose to discharge her because of her minimal progress in PT. They discharged like a dirty dog with open wounds, and not eating. Mind you the doctors on staff knew how weak she was, the infection she has, etc and yet they were focused on her not "feeling well" enough to go and do PT. When choosing the Maywood Center we asked and informed the director of all of our concerns and how weak my mother was, we were reassured that they would give her time and have patience. The PT staff, with me witnessing , were yelling in her ear to move and threatening her they were going to throw her out. After the family meeting with the staff, we informed them that we would appeal, once we did they started to treat her even worse. If I could leave no stars I would. To all future families, DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE AT THIS LOCATION. It may look beautiful on the outside but the inside (staff) is horrific

My mom was in a hospital stay for 3 weeks and needed rehabilitation to get her able to walk again. The nurses on weekdays were very good but weekends are horrible. .no really well trained staff, and no one that can answer queationa.. The doctor that saw my mom did not even want to hear from the family who knows her best....rude and obnoxious doctor. I thought the food and rehabilitation were ok Watch and be on top of their care

I chose Maywood Center for mom because it was very close to a dear friend of hers who could walk over to visit her nightly. The rooms are clean as well as their dining area. I think it’s a very nice facility. Most of the residents like the facility very much.

My grandfather was a patient here for approx a month and I could not have been more disappointed with the care he received. I am a therapist myself and when the PT tells you that he is at risk for injuring himself working with your family member then it's time to move elsewhere. First off therapists are trained to assist and move people. If you can't do that then clearly you need a new career. This facility shovelfuls really watch who they hire and how the staff speaks to family members. Don't bring your loved ones here if you want them to get proper care!

My uncle was living at home with assisted care. After a fall, he wound up in a hospital for a few days after which they recommended that he go to a rehab for a few days. We sent him there along with his aid who stayed there twelve hours a day with him. She saw the rehab that he got was non-existent. He was given a three pound barbell to exercise his arm. It was his legs that needed rehab, not his arms. And even that little bit of help was unmonitored. The rehab guy was taking care of three or four people at once, so my uncle did nothing with the little barbell when he was unmonitored. They did not provide my uncle a bed at night. They said that he tried to get out of the bed and they did not have enough help to watch him. Their solution was to keep him at the nursing station in a recliner chair. When his home care aid came to the facility in the morning, she found him in the reclining chair at the nursing station where everyone could see him and he was completely nude and uncovered. It was impossible for him to sleep under those conditions with the bright lights, in a chair and the constant talking by the nurses at the nursing station. We complained and they set up a family meeting for us. But all they were interested in was what was his financial condition and in keeping him there. We said that we were taking him home where he would get better care, and they kind of blackmailed us by saying that his insurance would not pay for the facility and he wouldn't get his medications. LIES. We got our own ambulance to take him home and he was well cared for by his caretaker. My sister was there two years ago, and they treated her similarly. Avoid this place. They don't care for your loved ones, and their primary goal is to take short term rehab patients and turn them into long term residents after they get their money.

My grandmother has been in Maywood Rehab for a year now. She started out on the second floor where they keep the residents that may go home after they are feeling better and their ailments are fixed. My grandmother, though, is 90 years old and after falling at home three times, we decided to keep her at Maywood. She was moved to the third floor where she still is today. the staff at Maywood is amazing. They always put her to bed in a timely manner and are quick to give her anything she needs. They are friendly and helpful. It is so nice to know we can depend on them. Everytime we visit she is happy and cheerful. The staff is able to tell us what she did that day, even though she cannot remember. I always feel welcome at Maywood and they never mind that my family and I stay after designated visiting hours. My grandmother is doing very well there and I feel this is a great establishment. She has been there a year and I have not seen more than a slight decrease in her health.

My mother has been a resident there since January and I am very pleased to say her care has been wonderful so far. They are very caring of the patients needs and the staff if very accomodating. Some of the aids could be a little more understanding of the elderly's conditions, but all in all its a very good place for continuing care.
