My dad was in Prospect Heights Care Center for rehab. It was a very good facility, it was clean, the physical therapy was excellent, and they were very attentive. I thought my dad did really well there. The physical and occupational therapy department was excellent. I would recommend this place. The food is very good. But it was a little expensive for him to be there on long-term. They have a lovely area, like a game room, where they do different activities. They had people come in, one time they had a man come in and sang along and played a musical instrument. They also had Bingo, casino night, and they did something for Valentines day. The grounds were okay, but not that great.

My mother was in this place for rehab due to a fractured pelvis. I would not recommend it to anyone. It is hot mess. - The administrative staff is beyond useless. They are not informed and will lie to you as well. The social worker we dealt is cold and uncaring of the patient's needs. Came into my Mom's room, gave us two days notice for discharge, and a phone number to appeal as she needed more PT before going home. The appeal was denied because of the poorly positioned paperwork the facility submitted. They also lied to us on what they claimed to have filed, which was opposite of what Medicare rep told us was in the paperwork. -The head of nursing will not take phone calls, you have to track her down while she tries to avoid you and your concerns at all costs. -Some of the RNs are OK. But for the most part. they made mistakes with medication including not correctly understanding doctor's directions, not logging administration of a narcotic pain killer on 2 occasions, ignoring a very low BP reading, and ignoring when you ring the call button. I've routinely seen my Mom wait up to 30 minutes to go to the bathroom. During her stay, I needed to stay on top of everything and watch their every move because I was so concerned about the degree of medical negligence and potentially dangerous and costly mistakes. They do not offer even half of the so called enrichment and activities they initially tell you about and market to potential patients. While Hackensack Univ Hospital may be one of the top in the NJ, they are surely not investing that kind of philosophy in this rehab.

DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE TO THIS PLACE! Following a devastating fall and multiple fractures my 90 y/o mother was admitted to Prospect Heights. None of her concerns about severe abdominal pain were acknowledged by the nursing/aides team, and her complaints of extreme pain during PT were also overlooked, resulting in her having to be re-hospitalized for a bladder that was so full that she was in early stages of kidney failure, and migration of the pins placed on her hip and knee due to over-exertion during PT at Prospect Heights. The renewed hospitalization was a blessing in disguise because we were able to transfer her to another rehab facility that treated her like a human being and cared for her in an outstanding manner with the compassion and respect she deserves.

THIS REHAB WAS FINE IN BEGINNING BUT THEN IT WENT ALL DOWN HILL. CALL BELL IGNORED, WRONG MEDICATION, UNHEARD OF MEDICATION, HYDROTHERAPY DONE 7 DAYS A WEEK AGAINST MY DR ORDER TO 3X PER WEEK, NURSES? DID NOT KNOW HOW TO DRESS/BANDAGE WOUND, ROOM WAS EXTREMELY COLD, SLEPT IN COAT 2 BLANKETS, PUTTING ON DRESSING ON LEGS WHICH PAIN CAUSED ME TO SUFFER, ASKED FOR PODIATRIST OVER A WEEK TO HAVE NAILS CUT, A DIABETIC. PHYSICAL THERAPIST, FOOD SERVER ALSO GREAT. SIGNED MYSELF OUT. THEY ALSO MIXED A 87 YR RESIDENT INFO WITH MINE. THIS PLACE NEEDS TRAINING AMONG OTHER THINGS.

What a disappointment! I was a patient in 2012 and the place was fabulous, nurses were really on the ball and attentive, PT department was terrific. Went back in 2019 - i had to sign out AMA - nurses are horrible, i didn't get some of my meds for 2 days, no one answers a call bell, they are slower than slow, food is tasteless and limited variety, no one speaks English anymore - i can hardly understand the nurses - lots of philippino staff - place really went down hill. PT just makes you walk up and down the hallway - grossly understaffed. Go somewhere else....

They never vacuum or change bedsheets in the month my uncle was there. The staff was inattentive and slow, when you press the nurse call button they come in to reset it and they disappear. The therapy staff is okay but bunch everyone in and make them wait their turn. This place does not bathe your loved ones properly. My uncle left in worst condition than he arrived. Did I mention that the food is disgusting?

I would not recommend this facility. My father was an inpatient in need of physical rehabilitation after a month in hospital. The nursing staff can't handle any medical issues. My father went for a full 24 hours without being given any of his medication (cardiac meds). I was told the meds weren't delivered. Really? This is not the place to send anyone who requires meds to be administered. I truly believe they didn't give my father his meds in the right way. He had to be taken back to the hospital after spending 4 nights there. It's a shame because the facility 'looks' nice and some staff are nice. Never saw the supposed dr in charge of my father and I spent a considerable amount of time there.

Facility is clean. Staff is good overall. Therapy staff is very good. The website states "new rehabilitation equipment"... that's a joke. Not enough equipment either. Needs big updates. Sad to see such a wonderful place go downhill over the years.

As beautiful as it looks when you tour the facility is as poor as their care is. The nursing staff is completely unqualified to care for elderly patients. Took my mom there from hospital. When admitted they found 2 small bed sores. None of the nurses were able to give any updates and when they did it was all bull as her dressing was not changed on a daily bases. When asked about the wound all I was told the a"wound nurse" was the one changing taking care of the wound. Needless to say there is no wound nurse. The head nurse is just as bad as the nurses. She has no clue from day to day what is the status of her patients. Records are not updated on a daily basis. Needless to say that from 2 small wounds my more came home with one large stage 3 wound. I do have to say the PT and OT staff were wonderful, other than that it's a nightmare.

It is a shame what has happened to this place. My mother was a patient in 2012- excellent care and rehab. Now she has had surgery and needed a rehab facility, we easily picked Prospect again. Major mistake- the facility has gone downhill from 2012 and barely any care given to my mother. She ended up falling and they neglected to call me. I would not place anyone's family member here...please do your research

I was a patient here at Prospect Heights and used the reviews posted on this website prior to coming. I also had an opportunity to tour the facility as I was waiting to get my hip replacement. I took a chance even though many of the reviews were not favorable. The one thing I would like for others who read this is to please don't judge any place based on a few angry comments. I had a good experience. The facility is clean, the kitchen is very accommodating and the nursing team coached me thru my recovery. The tour was very informative and I even got to meet the Physiatrist who was able to give me some feedback on what to expect in therapy. No place promises individualized one to one care and reading some of the reviews I think expectations are high. I found the staff consistent and approachable. If I had to wait I was informed and given the opportunity to work with another caregiver if mine was in the middle of assisting another patient. The Social Workers verified my insurance with home care and outpatient rehab. Once I learned both were an option, the head of the Outpatient Center at the facility actually sat down with me and set up my outpatient schedule prior to my leaving and arranged for the facility van to pick up and drop me off. Administration was always available, there are individuals in charge of every department. I found the floor staff and Unit Managers accommodating enough that I didn't really need the support of Administration during my stay. The grounds in the back are beautiful and private and with the weather being favorable during my stay I spent many hours with my friends and family outside in between my therapy sessions. Recreation even assured me I can participate in the upcoming BBQ events when I come back for outpatient services. We all have different experiences and I hope that no one will assume the worst just because of a few bad reviews. I read the same reviews and decided to tour all of my options. I found this place to be most appropriate for me as I am not a nurse home patient and only needed short term rehab. I'm glade I toured and even happier I came! Thanks Prospect heights!!!

My mom stayed at P.H. For a month for rehab. Her therapist was Roseann and Mom thought she was wonderful. We found the facility to be spotless, food very good, and staff friendly. Mom doing well at home, but appreciated Roseann's encouragement during the sessions. Made all the difference.

My mom was here after a stroke for rehab and general nursing care. The rehab techs seemed knowledgeable and caring as well as a few of the aides and nurses. Supervisors and administration were beyond awful. Outright refusal to provide adequate care and assessment of patient pain. I left her every night filled with fear that she would be injured while there. Absolutely no communication with family members on medical status and with staff members about patient ability (aides were unaware my mom was paralyzed and unable to speak). Would not recommend going here under any circumstances.

Horrible place. First 2 reviews are right on. All they care about is keeping Medicare patients to the last day Medicare will pay. And they know every trick in the book to do so; just like they know every CYA excuse & trick to justify just about anything they do. Total incompetence. The people that care who work there won't jeopardize their jobs by revealing what goes on- & then are the bulk of them who relish in knowing they can do what they want & all will vouch for them in fear of losing their job.

This facility is clean. The nurses only are good for giving meds. If your loved one is ill, this is not the place for them. They overlook all necessary medical problems. Wait until it is too late to take to the hospital. Prospect heights is good only for rehab. My husband passed away due to neglect of the medical staff. Please make sure before you choose this plce.

I WAS AN ORTHOPEDIC REHAB PATIENT AT THIS FACILITY TWICE FOR KNEE REPLACEMENTS... NOT ONLY WERE THE STAFF ATTENTIVE AND FRIENDLY BUT THE ACTUAL THERAPY ITSELF WAS GREAT... I HAD TO LEARN HOW TO WALK ALL OVER AGAIN BOTH TIMES I WAS THERE AND THE CARE AND TIME SPENT WITH ALL OF THE REHAB PATIENTS WAS INCREDIBLE... THE ONLY REASON I DIDN'T GIVE PROSPECT HEIGHTS 5 STARS IS THAT THE FACILITY ITSELF IS SHOWING SIGNS OF WEAR AND NEEDS SOME UPDATING... BEDS ALSO COULD USE REPLACING...
