Hingham is a safe suburb of Boston, located along the seashore of Massachusetts. This is a state where over 130,000 residents have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or dementia. Twenty-two percent of Hingham's population of 23,000 are seniors aged 65 and older — many of whom may comprise part of those memory condition cases and will need skilled care in one of the areas dozen memory care facilities.
Memory care facilities are regulated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, including licensing and staff training stipulations. Other regulations include around-the-clock supervision and security for residents. This includes assisted living facilities that have separate memory care wings and Alzheimer's-only treatment centers, referred to as dementia special care units (DSCUs). Other memory care facilities attached to assisted living communities are called special care residences (SCR).
Hingham-area memory care communities must adhere to the comprehensive set of state laws and regulations that all memory care communities in Massachusetts are required to follow. Visit our Memory Care in Massachusetts page for more information about these laws.
