My dad lived at the Bertram House of Swampscott for 3 years and 2 months starting 3/19/21. He received excellent personal care, great food and socialization. His apt. on the first floor had access to a porch outside where I could sit with him in the sun. The staff is truly caring, conscientious and dedicated. My dad was very comfortable, happy and felt at home. The staff always made sure his needs were met. The front desk staff are very friendly and the environment is warm and welcoming. My two best friends are Allie and Lexi, who are always on top of everything.!

Bertram House of Swampscott was a nice facility. They've got caring staff. The director of sales spent quite a bit of time with us and was very flexible and very accommodating. I saw a studio and a one-bedroom, and they were very clean and updated when each client left. They had nice common areas. It feels more like a bed and breakfast than a resort or hospital. They had salon services, different common areas, a library, a garden, and a van that takes the residents to outside activities.

My father spent his 89th to 92nd year at Bertram House of Swampscott and I am grateful for his time there. Bertram House and staff are exceptional and I have only good things to report. Bertram House has a ground floor, where my father resided, and a second floor for residents with more severe memory issues. My experience, and this review, refer to the first floor. Bertram House has an attractive and interesting layout – no long halls and several different common rooms (library, sunroom, tv room) – so there is not ‘institutional’ feeling. It is well kept. The dinning area is remarkable. Tables are set with beautiful china, table cloths, and cloth napkins. Residents are given menus with multiple options to select from, the ability to make personalized requests, and good and varied food. Make no mistake: Bertram House is an assisted care facility, not a resort or hotel, but the setting and the elegance of the dinning room provides residents with an import sense of dignity, respect, and comfort at a time when many areas of their lives are contracting. My father’s room was small, but served him well. Residents furnish their own rooms. I was able to see how the staff worked with my father during changing states of health and mental sharpness. They were invariably kind, respectful, friendly, interested and skilled. I appreciate some very good advice they provided. Bertram House is expensive, but it was a good use of resources for our family. I am certain it is not a perfect fit for everyone, but I would trust management to provide a frank evaluation of whether it might be a good fit for your parent. As you’d imagine, Bertram House works best if family is involved and can make frequent visits. But we and they made it work well, even though our circumstances were that I lived across the country and was able to visit only a couple times a year. I can’t imagine a scenario in which transitioning from independent living to assisted care is not a difficult process. I hope these comments are helpful as you consider options. Good luck.

We chose Bertram House of Swampscott because it is a mile away from my house. My aunt’s apartment is a studio, which was unfurnished, so we brought all her furniture there. The staff has been very nice. From what I understood from my aunt, they have great desserts. I did try the food once, and it was fine. They have a library and activity rooms.

Bertram is a beautiful and very nice facility. The people are nice and helpful. They really do take good care of the people. It’s extremely expensive but you are getting what you’re paying for. Mom is in the memory care unit now and it doubled the cost from the assisted living. The physical location is very nice and the place is clean. There is a family sitting area there and they play trivia games. I know that they take them on bus trips to the scenery and take them out to breakfast every few weeks just to give a difference. I’ve been in the memory care unit a couple of times when they’ve been trying to sing songs. When mom was in the assisted living she would tell they have little exercise classes and she will go to those.

We chose Bertram House of Swampscott because of its location and its cost. Mom loves the community. She has a studio apartment and it is of very good size. They replaced everything prior to the transfer. It has a nice little kitchenette and it has everything she needs so she is still independent, but at the same time she is getting the assistance that she needed. I was not able to eat there, but mom said it was great. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

Bertram house is located just a block from the Swampscott beach. The area is quiet and has a breathtaking view of the ocean. The facility is well secure and is located in a safe community. The building exteriors look older however, residents' apartments are well maintained. Staff is available 24 hours to assist residents with basic daily needs but usually the residents who live in the facility are independent. During my visits to the facility, I have observed residents being served with well balanced meals. Staff also tries to engage in recreation activities such as playing bingo. I would recommend Bertram house of Swampscott to seniors who would like to live near the ocean.

The Bertram House is a clean, comfortable and respectful assisted living facility in Massachusetts. The facility offers clean private rooms for elderly patients looking for a community when they can no longer live at home. Bertram House offers three meals a day which can be eaten with the other residents in the dining room or privately in your room if you are unable to leave or if you would like to host guests. The house also calls in hair dressers and nail technicians for the residents. The common rooms are quite comfortable and often host games and other events such as movies and music. The only real negative to the location is that it is quite expensive and is often only partially covered by social security.

This assisted living facility is easy to get to"”if you know where you're going. The building is located off the main road, private but not secluded. There is adequate parking, and it's next to a football field with additional parking. This is a beautiful facility from the outside. And the attention you get when you walk in the door is the highest level of quality I've ever experienced. Someone"“from the receptionist to the director"”greets you and is quick to meet your needs. There's a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. The building is older, but has been well maintained. And it's decorated in a lovely fashion, with fresh flowers on the dining room table. There are also a few different areas for residents to congregate in"”including a library, conference room, and TV room. There is a also a beautiful outside patio and gorgeous yard and gardens, which some of the residents help tend. Some rooms have outside decks near the ocean; although the ocean's not quite visible, it still provides a soothing ambience. The rooms themselves are very comfortable and accommodating, with lots of closet space. There is a great staff to resident ratio and the residents all seem well cared for, in a personal and personable way. There is also an impressive dietician and the food offered is varied and fresh and plentiful, with an eye toward presentation. Engaging activities are offered for all residents, but particularly those on the memory care floor. Potential drawbacks: It's one of the most expensive facilities in the area"”and it's not part of a continuing care network, so residents who begin to need more care might have to move. -This reviewer, Debra Offenhartz, is an aging specialist with a master's degree in social work.
