I am/was a resident of this facility

I was at an assisted living place, Villa Sorento last year during my recovery from a stroke. It's a very lovely place. It was very well taken care of. The staff was really sweet, kind, and generous. But the people there ranged from being fairly active to pretty out of it. I had a couple of experiences where at least three people would walk into my room, did not acknowledge my greeting, walked around my room, picked up stuff, put it down, used my bathroom, and then left. It didn't bother me that they were coming into the room, but they just weren't there. They seemed to be lost. The facility had a lot of activities for people, but I chose not to join any of them because like I'm not into bingo, I'm not into that kind of stuff. I would have been interested if they had a Tai Chi class or a book club, but none of that existed. It was like a regular care kind of exercise, which was probably more appropriate at the time because while I was there I moved from being in a wheelchair to a rollator type of walker and walking independently. I still use the rollator because of my back, but mostly I have a lot more independent walking. And I am personally myself, studying Tai Chi classes next week.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We placed our mother at the Villa Sorrento. Overall, we're very pleased. Her room was nice and fresh. They keep it pretty clean. The staff is very accommodating. I'm happy that we decided to put her there. We checked to make sure that the building was secure and that her room was in good order; then we moved her in quickly. They have amenities like a pool table, community activities, and a game area. I walked out of there yesterday for the first time in a long time feeling like I could breathe. So at this point, I'm very happy with the community so far.

The workers here are phenomenal. Although the facility and building itself is a bit older, the tremendous care with which the residents are treated is just great. The daily work of feeding, clothing, washing, etc. is second to none! The staff here really know what they are doing. My mother was always clean, happy, and her room was also clean and orderly. They also provide regular entertainment (singers, piano players, etc.) and the residents group together as friends and watch TV and play cards and bingo. The meals are ok and healthy and well-balanced. And to top it off, the cost here is very reasonable and the most reasonable in this area (South Bay/Torrance).

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parents have lived here for about 5 years. The care is simply amazing. Carmen (in charge of the nursing staff) caught a mistake by a pharmacy who sent over expired medication for my mom. The staff there is kind, patient, knowledgeable, and incredibly always know what is going on with my parents. They offer outings but at this point, my parents are too ole to partake but one year, Villa Sorrento took my parents to the Circus. I visited many other assisted living facilities and this one is by far the best. I have personally tried the food and it is very good. The Administrator Carla is fantastic and has gone out of her way for my parents (and I presume other residents as well) several times. Also, the pricing is very competitive. I only have fantastic things to say about Villa Sorrento and that is why at Christmas time, I make sure to give a little gift to every single employee.

My friend is in Villa Sorrento. It's a good community although it could use a little modernization, but for what it's doing, I think it's a very nice place. The staff has been very helpful and cooperative. My friend complains about the food but that just him, because he's a meat and potato guy and won't eat certain foods. They have a nice salad bar, people are scattered around the tables and they have a picture of the individual by his place setting. They do a lot of special events for the patients, on Thursdays they take them out to shopping in places like Safeway or they take them to the mall if they want to. On Fridays, they generally have entertainment coming in for the residents.

My sister has her own room in Villa Sorrento. She brought her own furniture. They provide the meals, bath, and laundry. She just pays one price, and they take care of the other things. She does not pay extra for anything. The staff seems OK. The location is fine. My sister seems to think the food is OK and seems to enjoy it there. They seem to keep her clean and take care of her.

I visited this facility

Villa Sorrento was clean and reasonable, not dark and gloomy like some of the others. The staff showed me the facility when I first visited the facility and told me about the activities. They were very helpful and friendly. I have deposited for a 1-bedroom apartment and I like it. It’s clean, they are repainting it and cleaning it up. It has a large closet and bathroom. They have bingo, exercises, and side trips. The dining area was very nice too.

I visited this facility

We visited Villa Sorrento for my mother. I liked the location. It had a hospital right next door. Everything looked great. It was clean and very nice. The staff was very good. I saw a one-bedroom apartment and it was fine. Their dining facility looked good. I thought their activities were great. However, she just doesn't want to go there, she wanted to stay home with me.

I visited this facility

I looked at Villa Sorrento, and I liked it. It's a small size. I think they only take a couple of hundred people. I like the location. They seem to have quite a bit of activities for people, and it seemed like it would probably be a good fit, but it didn't have any lockdown facilities. The staff seemed to be very involved with the residents. Whoever was taking me around seemed like they knew who everybody was and greeted them by name. People seemed to be pretty happy. They weren't sitting around in their pajamas all day. They seem to be doing things. They had several different sizes of rooms. The dining area seemed like it was nicely laid out on the ground floor, and they had a nice little garden area that could be viewed from the dining room.

I visited this facility

Villa Sorrento was close to my home and I have seen it before. I went there for a visit since I looked for a place for mom. The staff seemed to be just fine and they were helpful with the questions I asked. They referred me to a couple of things to look at. The facility itself, however, was lacking. It had a dirty smell like a chemical-smell to it. The rooms and dining area were average. The grounds were well-maintained but nothing spectacular. I thought the whole facility needed a little freshen up. And the residents did not seem too upbeat.

I visited this facility

Villa Sorrento was not in a neighbourhood environment, it was in an industrial environment. It was very institutional. I took my mom there and she sat in the lobby for five minutes and said let's go. It's very inexpensive compared to the others, it's about half the amount of money, it's affordable for a lot of people but this is not a place I would put my mom.

I recently visited, and the young man that showed the room was so helpful and informative. The facility is nice and reasonably priced, and the residents seem happy. Overall a nice place!
