I transferred my husband to Penngrove Gardens. It's a home, not a facility. Everybody there is very loving, caring, and compassionate. I wish I would have put him there a long time ago. I can't say enough good things about it. Because it's a small community (they just take eight residents), he has the same caregivers every day. He's not getting a different person every day. He seems to have more relationships and feels familiar with his caregivers. They're considered a board and care, but it's family-owned and family-operated. They do everything for my husband. They give complete care, showered, help them to eat, and get dressed. They give all the assistance he needs. His room is fine. It's a normal-sized bedroom with a bathroom. It's more personal and interactive. They have a television, they have movies and things, but they mostly are interacting with the residents. They're always gathered around the kitchen table and talking and laughing, which is a far cry from what it was like at the other place he was in. They go and sit outside. They help them do whatever they need to do. They walk with them and get exercise. It's more hands-on, personal, and relational. They're very loving, compassionate, and patient and work with your family member. The staff is excellent. It's clean. It's like a nice cozy home when you walk in and there's a lot of freedom to be able to walk around. They have home-cooked meals. Transportation was offered to me, but I took care of it myself. They're very helpful.

We found Penngrove Gardens through our aunt's medical facility. Since she requires regular checkups for her health, we liked that it was close enough so that she could keep seeing her regular doctors easily. The facility came highly recommended by a friend of hers at the hospital, as well. We could see why when we visited. The main room was nicely decorated and felt warm and inviting; everyone we saw appeared to be very well taken care of. Our aunt has early Alzheimer's so we were glad that they can accommodate her situation. We were told that as their residents health changes, they can adapt to most any situation. They have many social activities and make trips to nearby areas to go shopping, visit museums, see films, theater and participate in other activities geared toward seniors. The exercise facilities were quite nice, with many options, including yoga and other classes, with some machine work available. The food was really nicely prepared with options and choices for many tastes and dietary concerns. The food looked and smelled was delicious. The outside areas were well kept and looked peaceful, which is important to our aunt, since she enjoys reading and writing outdoors when the weather permits. For other days, which are rare, there is a well-stocked library and a nearby media center were anyone who wishes may see a film. They also host other events there with visitors from around the community. The private housing options were all lovely and looked like they had been personalized. The residents all looked very well taken care of by and seemed content with the kind and caring staff. It is clear that the seniors are enjoying this stimulating, yet peaceful living environment.
