Area Agency on Aging of Dane County  (608) 261-9930This government agency is tasked with assisting adults 60 years of age and up with both short-term and long-term needs. In addition to publishing regular informational newsletters for area caregivers and seniors, it can help guide seniors through questions about accessing benefits and signing up for prescription drug programs.
Long-Term Care Ombudsman  (800) 815-0015The ombudsman's role is to investigate care issues reported by residents of long-term care facilities. Family and friends may also report problems to the ombudsman. Care issues under the purview of the ombudsman can include physical abuse, financial exploitation, lack of adequate privacy and breaches of confidentiality, among others. The ombudsman can also guide seniors and families through questions about power of attorney and patients' rights regarding refusal of treatment.
