"My mother is in Graystone Manor at Bellmeade. We like it. They're good with her. They provide excellent care and it's a safe environment because she was having some issues getting out of the house. They have excellent safety features in place to keep other people from getting out of their facility and wandering off. It's a combination of everything. It's assisted living and if they need the extra care like the memory care or that kind of thing, they have things in place for that. I have tasted their food and it's pretty good. They provide three meals a day. They're really good with the activities. She likes it when they play bingo. They have entertainment coming in all the time."

"The Winds at Mattern Orchard Assisted Living was very well laid out, had very personable staff, and was very caring. It's just a larger facility and we wanted to go with the smaller, more homey feeling with the other facility we visited. We liked it because of the cleanliness, the personal staff's attention to our needs, and the information. They gave a lot of good information to us. They're also secluded, very quiet, have pretty outside scenery, and are very clean. They offer physical therapy, craft classes, exercise classes, and outside trips. They organize trips outside of the facility."

"I went to Homewood at Martinsburg. I like that whatever condition mom is in, they can take care of it. They can go from independent living to hospice. It's very nice, very clean, and upbeat. My mom really liked it. The staff was very good, informative, friendly, helpful, and knew all the answers. They had a nice dining room. We didn't have any food, but we've seen menus; they cover all the bases. One thing they have that's really nice is every room has either a balcony or a patio. They can walk out the door and be outside, which my mother likes. They had crafts. They take them out on a tour, and they take them shopping if they want. There's a lot of stuff to do. The facility was great."

"My sister is at The Village at Morrisons Cove. She's in independent living, but she gets some assistance. It's been wonderful. They were very informative and contacted me right back. They go from assisted to more assisted and then to nursing, so it's like a three-level step. They have the very independent living there. Then they go to another kind of apartment where they can have some assistance, such as with medication, other reminders, or assistance with meals. Then they go to a higher level of need, such as more nursing or more elderly care. It is why I chose that one. In other words, she doesn't have to move. She's in that same facility. She remembers everybody, and she has the same people taking care of her. The care is really good, and the facility is clean. They're very professional, and they have real nurses on-staff, not just med techs."

"The staff here are second to none. They treat the residents like family and really go the extra mile. The food is great and the dining area cozy. There was a recent remodel of some of the common areas and it is modern and light and cheerful. The rooms are nice and the place is well kept and clean. The pricing is quite reasonable as I was shopping around in the area to find the best place for a loved one. A hidden gem for sure!"

"My husband is in a secure dementia unit within The Preserve at Cedarwood, and he's doing pretty well. He doesn't think so, but I see great improvement. I'm very happy with them, although they're very expensive. The place is clean, and he has a room of his own. They take very good care of him. They do his laundry, serve him three meals a day, plus he can get all the snacks he wants. It's just phenomenal, and the staff is great. They're friendly, and they take care of the residents. The residents can walk around in the unit. They have a dining room, and they walk there to eat. It's a very nice facility. I haven't eaten there, but I go to the meals with my husband. I sit there while he eats, and he says they're great. He cleans his plate all the time. Most of the residents do. They have all kinds of activities. They play bingo, they have church, and they sing. They had an ox roast and a Father's Day get-together. They play cards, too. My husband goes to them, which he didn't do before."

"Olivia Village Assisted Living Residence is a very small and family-owned community. They made you feel like you're a person, not a number. My dad is in a private room, but they also have shared rooms to offer. They can go outside for walks, have bingo nights, a therapist and a doctor that comes in, a cafeteria area, and several different TV rooms. Plus, you can have a TV in your own room. It's laid out the same as everybody else. There's a long hallway with rooms off each side and the dining area. Then there are a couple of different community rooms. The staff is very good. My dad's been satisfied with the food as well."

"My mom is in Graystone Manor Huntingdon. It's excellent. The staff goes above and beyond. They have bingo, crafts, and other games. There are always things for them to do. The activities director there is really good. The food is good. My mom hasn't had any complaints. If there is something that maybe she doesn't like, they have an alternate menu she can pick from. They have a room where you can have private time with just your family if you want. I'm sure that you could use the dining area if you needed to as well. I think that it's comparable with other places I've checked into. To me, none of them are cheap. They do not have any transportation. But they will call the CART of Huntingdon if they need transportation somewhere. Communication with the staff is very good."

"This facility seems very nice from the outside and as soon as you walk in, but after you're there for a few minutes, the real scene unfolds. The staff doesn't come to the need of residents right away but are instead sitting down at a table chatting together, when they do answer the call bells most are not pleasant: yelling, attitudes, mocking residents, being rough. Aside from the unfriendly staff, the facility itself was dirty; dust at least 3 inches thick on ceiling fans that were blowing, scattering dust around, dirty tables, food on floor and tables. We got to meet with the owner of the facility, along with 2 other facilities. He has a crude sense of humor and doesn't seem to get to know the residents on a personal level which to me is a key priority to owning/operating a long time care facility to make the rest of their lives enjoyable. I would never put a family member of my own in this facility, and am glad I don't have to go back! "

"We visited Arotin's Hummingbird Estate. It's kind of new. I loved it. The owner worked at a different place that was quite large, and she wanted to have a smaller place where she could hire the people and make sure that the residents were well taken care of. So there were only 13 people there when we were at Arotin's Hummingbird Estate. It was quiet. In the vicinity where it is, you could look out the window and see train tracks, or you could look out another window and see the trees. It's just a lovely place. And everybody was so friendly. No matter who came out of their rooms and saw us sitting, they would say, 'If you're coming here, you're coming to the best place. It's wonderful here. The food is delicious. We're well taken care of.' The place is so beautiful, and the rooms are so spacious, that I can't get over it. They have private rooms and semi-private rooms."
