My parent has resided within the Crystal Foundation for about 3 years. Whispering Pines residency is well-maintained. There are many activities such as cards groups, bingo, some art projects, weekly music presentations, puzzle tables, daily exercise groups, neighborhood "assisted" bike trolley rides, large-screen movies, hands-on outdoor flower gardens, and regular off-site group activities such as restaurant trip luncheons, casino trip, Walmart shopping runs, etc. Weekends are more quiet. The hands-on, direct care-staff (aides and nurses) is very involved and readily available. Administrative/business staff is not quite as responsive or reactive. There is a professional physical trainer on-site to help w/ medical/physical treatment (this is a separate entity and handled through individual's medical insurance policy). Cleanliness (including smell) is pretty well-managed, however, I think there are some staffing challenges and it isn't as good as it may have been 1-2 years ago. It is "funny" to observe this "seniors community" and see how there are "cliques" just like there were back in high-school, and some unique personalities that definitely stand out (some good, some not-so-good). The biggest negative is food. There is limited variety and unfortunately the quality is very bland. I know this is a challenging subject as it's hard to please everyone and there are always diet restrictions, but I also know a few people at the higher-care place next door (The Lodge, same owners) and food quality is given better ratings over there. I recommend more fresh veggies, and better-seasoned plates. I asked multiple residents for their reviews and truly have not received any good comments. I recommend they take a monthly survey asking for input from the residents.

We're on a waiting list at Whispering Pines in Plover. The entire atmosphere was one of sort of still being alive in a circumstance where you needed assistance. It didn't feel like a nursing home as such. They had a good staff-to-client ratio. It was very well maintained, clean, and attractive. The downside is they don't have full- size refrigerators and they don't have dishwashers. I think that those would be nice things for the more active residents to have. We didn't have enough interaction with the staff. We only talked with the director. The building looked very nice. It is on one floor and I think that is very nice instead of having elevators. It was of a reasonable, manageable size and the outside grounds were lovely.

We chose the Lodge at Whispering Pines because it has a rural setting. It’s one level and shaped like a bow tie where my sister could walk all through the interior. It’s also a newer facility. The people we met were extremely friendly and very accommodating. They have treated my sister very well. They have on-site physical therapy, a nurse, and medication dispensing. My sister is Catholic. They have a priest come in and say mass once a week, and she also gets Communion. They also have singers come in, therapy dogs, and bingo, too. I’m glad my sister’s there, and I think I see improvements in her just from the socialization there. I feel good about the facility.

We visited all the care facilities in the area but we like Whispering Pines the best for my father-in-law. The staff is very professional and friendly. I haven't tasted their food but from what I have seen, my father-in-law likes their food. Regarding activities, he isn't really into doing any of them. He pretty much needs help and everything. However, they do have music and other activities. I have seen all other people living there and participating. Overall, I'm very happy with this place.
