My mom moved into Acclaim at East Beach. It's one of the newer places. It's in the East Beach area, Norfolk. And she has a view of the Marina and the naval base, which is nice. The people who work there are awesome. There's also a restaurant there. People who live there could get on a meal plan and just eat there when they want to, a couple of meals a day. They have so many activities to choose from. There's something for everybody there. What they do provide is a continental breakfast every morning. So my mom goes down for coffee and you can get like fruit and croissants and stuff like that. But the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and you can get on a meal plan, so you don't have to cook. Each room has its own kitchen. But you can make up your mind if you want to do the meal plan or just cook yourself.

My tour experience with Acclaim at East Beach was good. The size of the apartment was good, and the windows looked out onto a courtyard. They also had a breakfast bar downstairs. It reminded me more of hotel living, where they had a formal dining room set up with linens and china. It was nice. They had a gym, where they could go on the treadmill and bike. The staff we met were nice.

I enjoyed my tour at Acclaim at East Beach. I got to see the different apartments. There was one resident there, and she said, 'I think I'm 90. I was born in 1936,' but she was very lively. We ate dinner that night and there were a lot of residents, but they were not as friendly as at the other place. I interacted with a couple of staff members. Teresa was awesome, but their concierge would only talk when you ask her a question. The facility itself was awesome, but they didn't have a lot of activities going on. My understanding is that a lot of the residents there needed assisted living, so they didn't have a lot of activities going on. They had four activities every day, and they were the same four activities. So I wasn't as hyped about it as I was with the other place.

We are choosing Acclaim at East Beach for mom. It's a very active community. It's brand new, so everything is up to code. The apartment is beautiful, and the people are really friendly, both the staff and the residents. The menu looks wonderful, but I have not tried the food. They have classes all the time, classes in arts and different books. There were people doing puzzles, playing bingo, and going on trips. They take them to the movies and the theater. They have shuttles to take the residents to the grocery store and doctor's appointments. The staff was very friendly. The apartment mom is moving into has never been occupied before.

I will be moving to Acclaim at East Beach. It was home-like, I felt at home when I walked in. It's a newer facility and it's beautifully appointed. The people are just gregarious or outgoing, and very friendly, and the residents are friendly and very happy. They have a monthly charge for meals ranging from $200 to $600 a month. They're pet-friendly and they also have a dog-watching spa. In terms of amenities, they've got an indoor saltwater pool, and a gym and they have many activity rooms for puzzles or crafting. Since it's a new facility, I'll be the first person living in my apartment. I've been in twice for lunch and I am more than happy with it. As far as I'm concerned, the portions are a little on the large side, but that's beside the part.

We chose Acclaim at East Beach because it was close to home, and we enjoyed being on the water. It's beautiful. We got two bedrooms and two baths. All amenities are included if we would like. The staff members were very nice and helpful. The room was very big, spacious, and very clean. They have a variety of rooms. They have a dining room, but I'll be doing my own cooking.

Acclaim at East Beach was new, bright, airy, and had a warm feeling the minute you walk in the door. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. I've been to two of the events that they've had for their residents that have been very fun. They're putting on some additions outside because they're going to have an assisted living place next door. That was one thing that was interesting, that if you needed to go to assisted living, you could go just from independent right to assisted living there. Everything that you need is right there. They've got a nice gym with an indoor saltwater heated pool. The residents were very friendly. It just had a nice feeling about it. It wasn't an institutional type. It's like being in a hotel. It was very light and open. There's always something going on. The residents were outgoing, and the staff was outgoing. You felt at home. The staff was very upfront about everything. I don't think they tried to hide anything because I later found out that I have two people that I know that live there, which I was not aware of when I went to do it. I've asked them about things, and everything that I've asked them was exactly the things that I had been told. They told you everything upfront exactly how things work, what they do, what they have to offer, and no hidden fees anywhere. They've been very willing to answer any of my questions. I've asked a couple of times to go back and just relook before I made my decision and it was always, "Sure any time you want to come back, I would be glad to give you another tour." They're always accommodating. I went to a tea one day before Mother's Day and then two weeks ago, they had an entertainer come in who sang Elvis' song. They had a dinner of everything that Elvis would like. They had a little croissant with peanut butter, banana, and bacon on it. Then we had dinner with meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, and cornbread, which I understand was an Elvis favorite, and lemon meringue pie. Most of the residents that were there got up and interacted with him. They just didn't all sit for dinner. They were up moving around dancing and having a good time. Everyone that I've spoken to said they love the place. The people were wonderful. The maintenance people were fantastic. Anything you need, they're right there to help you. They have a full-sized washer and dryer in the one-bedroom, a refrigerator freezer type thing, a stove, microwave, and dishwasher. The kitchen got all the appliances that you'd need. It's got walk-in showers and pull cords. Most of them had balconies or patios. The studios don't have the patios, but they have a nice view because it's right there on the bay. The minute I walked into it, I just felt like that was a place I needed to be.
