My mother has moved into Mercy House Victoria. She had been going there for visitation two or three times a week. She knew the people here, and when she couldn't stay in the rehab facility she was in, this is where she wanted to be. There are only eight places that are for the group that my mother's in. The ratio of staff to people is very small, which is nice. There's also the Alzheimer's unit, which if her Alzheimer's gets bad enough, they'll just transfer her over to the other unit. The staff has been very attentive; in the middle of the afternoon, someone brought her a snack, a grilled cheese sandwich, and she was thrilled about that. They play bingo, they have a back porch where they can go sit and a backyard they can walk around in if they want. They have three meals a day. My mother is in assisted living, they change her and all that. They remodeled, and they redid everything. They got bingo that goes on. They've got a TV room, and my mom's got a computer where she plays a lot of solitaire on it. I know during the week they're trying to get her up to walk and move. We just got a bill today, and I would say it's pretty good compared to the pricing in Houston.

What you can do with Caring
About Mercy House Victoria in Victoria, Texas
At Mercy House, we believe the burden of long-term care should not just fall on you or your family. That's why we're here... working alongside you, as an extension of your family, to provide the loving care your loved one deserves. Our small, family-owned facility and family-oriented model of care, will ensure your loved one feels right at home. Our Assisted Living and Memory Care homes are designed based on leading research. They are designed, built and decorated to look like you're walking into someone's home, because you are! We do not"institutional-type" feel to us. We more or less, have a feel of any middle-class, American household. We do not have apartments with private bathrooms, as we were part of a study about 10 years ago that found that 80% of the falls happening in AL/MC homes, were happening in the private bathrooms. So instead, we have a wall of bathrooms; so that we continually have Staff available and on hand at all times, to assist our Residents. In addition, we have semi-private and private rooms available. We are not fancy, but we are very homey. If you want the newest, fanciest of places, with chandeliers in the dining room, then we aren't for you. But if you want your loved one to be cared for, laughed with & loved on, in BIG and small ways, in a nice, clean, comfortable & safe environment, then we are the place you want him/her to be! We are a secured home, inside and out. One must have a code to even have access to come/go in our place; our courtyard (on the back side of each of our homes) is surrounded by an eight-foot, privacy fence that is also secured with a code. This helps keep all of our Mercy House family safe. Furthermore, we truly honor the value of the aging process here. Our residents age in place and we get the privilege of caring for each one, until God calls him/her Home. Though it hurts when we lose a part of our MH Family, we truly count it a success as well. Because it's especially wonderful for memory care patients to be able to stay in one place throughout their care. They will thankfully not have additional changes that can cause them to have issues with more hallucinations and delusional thoughts, so we count it a real WIN when there is no interruption in his/her care. Our Staff has two main goals.... First, to give the VERY BEST care possible and second, to make our Residents HAPPY! Life might not look like it used to look for Mom or Dad, but that doesn't mean that there isn't still so much JOY to be had and that's what we are about at Mercy House! We staff our communities based on the number of residents and their needs, not based on minimum State requirements. This means at most times, our community has a higher staff-to-resident ratio than you will find elsewhere. We offer: medication management; at least, 3-homestyle meals, plus snacks each day; dignity in personal care; quality, pro-active medical care; a positive, nurturing environment, laundry and linen services, housekeeping services, a variety of entertaining and social activities on the daily; assistance with ADL's, on-site barber/beauty salon services each week; professional and trained clinical staff available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week; pet-friendly atmosphere; a professional care team, who customizes a detailed plan to meet medical, physical and social needs of each resident. We created Mercy House out of our own family's quest for a better, long-term care solution. In everything we do, it is designed to meet your loved one's needs. We hire our staff based on emotional intelligence, as well as intellectual intelligence, meaning our colleagues are not only highly trained, but most importantly, they have HUGE hearts, are compassionate people, who are dedicated to working with our seniors. They feel like they are fulfilling a "calling" not just a job. In fact, most of us who work here, also have loved ones that are in Assisted Living/Memory Care. We honestly believe this is another remarkable thing that sets us apart, from other places out there. Sympathy in caring for others is wonderful, but empathy helps us step into the shoes of your family & care for your loved one, like she/he's our very own parent. I toured the memory care of Mercy House Victoria. I liked that it had an outdoor spot for the residents to walk. That was really important for my mother. She loves to walk to see nature and everything was secured there. It was nice, neat, and clean. The food was provided (three meals a day). They had an activity going on there where they were singing, they had tambourines, and they were playing. So, they have a lot of activities. They're pet-friendly as long as it's house brought and small, and they were talking about letting Mom and Dad bring our Boston Terrier, which was really nice. The person that gave me the tour was distracted and I was more of an afterthought. I don't think that he was expecting me, and I just kind of felt like it was just kind of "OK, here it is," but he wasn't rude or anything. The facility was pretty immaculate, but somebody had gone to the restroom and didn't flush the toilet. It was clean but there was pee in the toilet. Then there were poop stains on one of the bedspreads. That was what it looked like. Nothing smelled, but you all are showing me this room, and it's got that. I know poop happens because I care for my parents and sometimes it doesn't wash out. So, maybe that was the case. Everything else was nice.

I was able to set up an appointment here and everything seemed okay when I visited the facility. The place seemed to be nice and clean. They also offer activities and everybody seemed really friendly. They also seemed to have adequate staff. The residents that I talked to said that the food was really good. I really like the cleanliness and the friendliness of the people there. It didn't smell like from the other places I visited.
