I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

After caring for 2 elderly parents over the past 10 years at multiple assisted living, rehabilitation and memory care facilities, I can honestly say Red Oak Memory Care provides excellent care for those requiring the highest level of care in the last stage of life. The rooms are kept immaculate, fresh food is made daily tailored to the resident’s nutritional needs, residents are bathed and cleaned regularly, and the staff checks on each resident often. My mother was bedridden and the staff made sure she was kept clean, comfortable and moved often to prevent bed related sores. This is a caring and professional care facility. You won’t find any better, because they are the best.

My mother, who struggled with the ongoing ravages of dementia, was a resident of Red Oak for several years. The care she received from the staff until she passed recently was outstanding in all respects. Jose, the director, is compassionate, approachable, and attentive, and he responds promptly to any concerns you may have. Same goes for the rest of the staff. They are there for the right reasons. They truly care about the residents. I recommend Red Oak without any reservations whatsoever.

We had our loved one as a resident of Red Oak for 2 years and 9 months. The care provided was exceptional. The staff was caring and engaged and knew when something didn’t seem right. She was well connected to and trusting of the staff members which is an excellent sign. Jose is incredibly professional, knowledgeable and diligent and I believe her longevity and overall health is 100% because of him. The facility is impeccably taken care, well appointed and always clean with security and camera systems and a beautiful backyard. Everything was thought of and nothing overlooked. Excellent home cooked meals and snacks provided. Recommendations for needs and access to things that make the care better. They treated our loved one like she was part of their family. Finding this location was a blessing for our family and I can not thank them enough for what they did for us.

Care at Red Oak was great. They were attentive to my dad’s needs and provided guidance to our family during a very difficult and stressful time. Always clean and very organized facility.

I feel so blessed to have found Jose & his wife Lillian. They are the owners/operators of this facility. Jose is a Registered Nurse with many years of experience with the US Army. His facility is immaculate and very comfortable. It is clear they take pride in the space they share with their residents. They are welcoming and accommodating at any time and really want you to feel at home when you are visiting your loved one. The patient rooms are cozy and well kept and the living space is also very nice. They also have a lovely outdoor area that is very peaceful. Jose is a careful and observant attendant of his patients and also a great teacher for his staff. His staff are also all very helpful and friendly and I loved the care and attention they paid to my Dad during his stay with them. My father's dementia made it difficult to feed him and keep him clean at times but the staff were so patient and so skilled at getting him to cooperate with his care. In the end as my father declined, Jose was prepared and suggested hospice at just the right time. The transition was quick for my father and Jose made every effort to keep me apprised of the situation so my sister and I could be there with him when he passed. As painful as it is to lose a great father, Jose and his staff helped my Dad pass peacefully and comfortably which gave my sister and myself great comfort. The cost of care is relatively comparable to what you'll find at a large facility but the care and attention is 1000% better. My only regret is not being able to have my dad spend more of his final months at Red Oak Memory Care. I would refer Red Oak Memory Care to anyone looking for Assisted Living or Memory Care without hesitation. God Bless.

I concur with other’s reviews regarding cleanliness and care. I’ll add a third “C”; communication. During the initial video call, RN Jose met my demented parent and other family members, patiently explained procedures and took us on a video tour of the facility. We were able to select a room. Jose provides regular updates on condition, medications and prognosis. He is never too busy to make or take a call. My parent described Red Oak Memory Care (ROMC) as “a B&B for people who need help”. I agree and feel blessed beyond belief to have found ROMC.

If you are searching for Memory Care for your loved one, you are likely experiencing a plethora of emotions: reservation, concern, fear and, ultimately, hope. After exploring numerous options, my family was blessed to find Red Oak Memory Care for my Grandfather, who experiences dementia. The caregiver/client ratio is amazing, the facility is sparkling clean, the staff is compassionate and genuine (truly the most difficult criteria to meet), and friends/family are welcome to visit and/or take their loved one offsite at any time. Jose and his staff are willing to go above and beyond to make your loved one feel comfortable. For example, they ensure my Grandfather is served spaghetti with meatballs frequently, because it is his preferred food. They comfort him when he does not comprehend why he is not at his home in Alaska (Yes, we relocated him from Alaska to Texas because of the degree of competency at Red Oaks Memory Care). They have improved his quality of life in many ways. I know it is a very difficult and personal decision to place your loved one's care in the hands of others. My Grandpa was adamant he would live independently until his death. However, necessity supersedes desire in more severe situations. I feel beyond blessed to have found the staff at Red Oaks Memory Care and I wish you peace in finding the same.

Where do I begin... It's hard to express how pleased and impressed I am with Red Oak Memory Care. After searching for a facility in the San Antonio area for my elderly father who had recently broken his hip and had been suffering from Dementia, through word of mouth, I was recommended to look into Red Oak. From the moment I first spoke with the owner/director, I could sense he was a genuine, caring, loving individual. The director took it upon himself to drive to Houston to assess my father while he was hospitalized due to the broken hip. The director was honest in his assessment and helped our family to recognize the stage my father was in regarding his dementia. Upon arriving at Red Oak, my father was provided the best of care - loving, caring, attentive, are just a few words to describe the attention my father received. The staff at Red Oak love their patients, or as they call them - their community members. Red Oak is a small, private, family owned, beautiful facility where community members have private rooms, one-on-one 24 hr care. The staff get to know their members, their background, their life story providing a dignified approach to memory/end of life care. Throughout the time my father was with Red Oak, the staff kept our family abreast of all his challenges, coordinating with the hospice folks and medical providers. Although my father is no longer with us, I am at peace with knowing that he was loved and well cared for up until his final breath. Anyone searching for a care facility for a loved one should look no further than Red Oak Memory Care. My family loves the staff at Red Oak - we now consider them family as well! God Bless the staff at Red Oak Memory Care!

Provider Response

Thank you for such a great review. We always try to provide the best care possible to our residents and we take our job very seriously. Your father had such a kind soul and it was evident that he was loved very much by all (such a blessing!). He was here only for a short period of time but became part of our family and he is missed. May God bless you and your family.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law moved into Red Oaks Memory Care in Feb of 2021. We spent a few weeks looking and visited multiple over facilities trying to find the right place for her before visiting Red Oaks. My wife and I were very impressed from the start with the facility and staff. The home is beautiful and in a nice residential setting, making it feel like a home, not a facility. The home has been completely renovated/retrofitted to accommodate the best possible environment to provide the care needed for residents. The individual rooms are very nice, with easy access to restrooms and a family room. The hallways are wide for wheel chairs and the kitchen/dining area is great for residents to be able to get out of their rooms and eat in more of a family type setting. One last note about the facility, my mother-in-law loved the back patio/yard (complete with circular walking path), it was so wonderful to see her light up when she got to sit outside and watch the birds and the changing of the seasons. This is a very nice touch, something that made a difference for her last year. The care given was simply superb. The staff went above and beyond to make my mother-in-comfortable until the very end. Having the facility run by a licensed nurse, to me, makes all the difference in the world. We never once felt that the care could have been more compassionate or competent. The food was great, even though my mother-in-law was a picky eater. The really tried hard to please her with home cooked meals and well thought out snacks through the day. The staff's communication with both the visiting doctors group, and later hospice was very good and really helped a lot toward the end. The care they provided to my mother-in-law and the compassion they showed our family was tremendous. It simply could not have been more caring. I would highly recommend Red Oaks Memory Care to any family looking for a caring facility that goes above and beyond to make your loved ones comfortable.

Caring owners and staff. Place is always well kept. My mothers room is always neat and clean and she always looks at peace and well cared for. They have a beautiful back yard and walk ways where I can stroll my mother or just sit outside to enjoy the day and pray with her. José RN/owner is good at trouble shooting any issues to make sure my mother is well cared for. He has been easy to work with before and after my moms arrival.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We moved my mom into Red Oak Memory Care in March 2021, immediately following surgery/rehab for a broken hip. Previously she lived in a large assisted living facility, lots of people there but still too much alone time in her small suite, and while she had interactions with the staff multiple times a day, it wasn't quality time. Within a very short time of moving into Red Oak, she has regained much of what she had lost emotionally, mentally and physically. José is a registered nurse, which has been invaluable since my mom has several conditions which sometimes require the skills of a trained medical professional, not to mention her long list of medications. The staff is wonderful and as an RN, José is able to provide the extra assistance she sometimes needs - as well as communicate and coordinate with her home health care team and pharmacy. Lillian is a wonderful caregiver and cook, extremely attentive and caring towards my mom, taking everything in stride which isn't always easy with seniors. My mom is a musician, and they set up a keyboard for her. One of the staff caregivers plays oboe, and they even play duets together! The care my mom gets at Red Oak far exceeds the basic necessities - we really couldn't have imagined a better place. Their home is always immaculate, very organized and with a beautiful backyard for the residents to safely enjoy. They designed the home with the residents in mind, with attention to every detail (from the layout, to the paint, to the bathrooms and backyard) to make it a beautiful, safe, warm home for the residents. Jose, Lillian and their staff have been a blessing to my mother and to our entire family with the care and love they impart. I recommend their home without hesitation, we feel extremely fortunate to have my mom there.

I visited this facility

We visited this place as a potential facility for my dad. Ultimately, we didn't select it almost solely because it was somewhat further than my mom wanted to drive to visit. BUT, there is a lot to recommend about Red Oak. It is a very beautifully converted private residence that just opened in February 2021. If you are familiar with San Antonio, it very close to the US281 & Bitters Rd intersection. It has room for 8 residents, with a caregiver to resident ratio of 4:1. The owner is a retired military RN and is there most of the time. The owner seems to be very familiar with and generally cares a lot about the needs of memory care patients. The place has a very homey feel, and there are options for a shared bath, in-room half-bath & in-room full bath. Rooms are furnished. Rooms include TV's with video cameras for virtual visits. There seems to be a lot of tech, with bed sensors so that employees know when residents get up. There's a very nice backyard area with a walking path and places to sit. If you look at their web site you can see a virtual tour and a dollhouse view of the layout. If I was the one making the final decision for my dad, I probably would have picked this place. I would recommend to anyone to at least check out Red Oak before making your final decision on a place for your loved one.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We had been looking for an assisted living facility based in a small group residential setting that specialized in dementia care with a focus on Alzheimer's disease for my Mother and are so pleased we found Red Oak Memory Care. We were first impressed by the virtual tour on their web site. Located in a well established North Central neighborhood, within seconds of our first visit we realized that the video did not do this place justice! The attention to the smallest detail begins as soon as you get out of the car in the circular driveway. No steps or transitions from the car to the front door give a sense of safety as soon as you arrive. As you approach the front door of this well manicured home and yard, you immediately notice the added fire protection hookup lighting and security. When you enter the home, the spacious and well appointed great room and dining room greet you. Every detail is well thought out for the safety and comfort of the residence, starting with the color choices of the walls to help create a sense of calm and peace, lighting that does not create shadows or dark spots, no slip flooring with zero transitions, and most importantly a family Home environment. The gourmet kitchen will make you want to go home a remodel yours. Each room is spacious and well appointed with bed, chest of drawers for folded cloths and armoire for hanging cloths and storing shoes. A individual TV is in each room with private remote visiting capabilities built in. All bathrooms and shower areas are built to assure privacy and safety. A detailed lifestyle assessment allows the well trained staff to focus on providing elements of comfort and familiarity to the resident, from TV show and movies , food they prefer and even music therapy designed to help touch some of their deepest memories. The entire staff is well trained, attentive, warm and kind. After living her entire live in the country, Mother loves most of all the large private backyard. The patio is well shaded and furniture is comfortable. The walking path meanders around a lovely garden and gazebo full of ornamental plants, bushes and even a mature orange tree…he favorite spot! The mature neighborhood, called the Arbor provides a perfect spot for many varieties of birds constantly chirping and singing in the background. We would strongly recommend the Red Oak Memory Care to anyone looking for discreet, professionally managed small group residential assisted living facility that focused on memory care.
