There's no way to secure your items at Veranda House Assisted Living. My mom is there and there are no locks on the doors. There's no personal shower in each room. They have one common shower where they bring their individuals out and shower them in. Then as far as the menu, there's no choice for them to choose. You eat what is being provided and there' are no actual activities to take them out. They did one which are exercise, but other than that, no. The facility needs an upgrade, too.

We chose Veranda House Assisted Living for my mother. The staff is very friendly. It's a clean place. The only thing is it is outdated, but they do keep it up, though. The room is a 13 by 11. We fit a twin bed in there, a full-size dresser with a mirror, and a full-size armoire. She has a recliner in there. And then a jelly cabinet, which is where the TV is housed. And it still gives her two feet between all the pieces of furniture to get through and get to her closet and her bathroom, with a walker. In the dining area, the tables are separated by six feet, and it's clean. They have rehab that comes in, so there's a rehabilitation room. The showers are independent of the rooms, so there are rooms with doors with four shower stalls. They're big enough to put in wheelchairs and a person to help those elderly that are having trouble. They have a library, and people come in to do hair, but I don't know if there's a separate room. They have physical therapy. A nurse comes in once a week. They use the PillPack system, which is awesome. So if your parent takes a lot of medications, they work with a specific pharmacy that packages everything right down to an aspirin with a prescription that's written. There's a serviceman on site. So if something is broken or whatever, they're right there. We live in Texas, so there are tree bugs that come in, but they take care of all that. They will hang up the pictures for you. They're very accommodating.

I visited this assisting living when I walked in the building smelled great. The staff was very nice when I came in and greated me. I also like that they are still implementing the COVID rules. I am looking forward to moving my family member here.

I toured Veranda House. Overall, it's an older facility. It's not as brand new as the other ones, but they had good staff and good management. I felt comfortable. They explained a lot to me. The room I saw was an older one, but they do their best before you move in to paint and make sure that the room is clean and disinfected. When I was visiting, they were having cake for the monthly birthdays, and they were playing music for the residents. They gave me a sample of their food. The staff was nice. Even though it's an older facility, the staff definitely looks after the residents. If I had to make a decision and move my father into assisted living versus the other places, given how management treats their employees, I would definitely choose Veranda House.

Veranda House is older, but that’s what I’m looking for. It’s very clean and very bright. They did some obvious renovations. Everything was very pleasant. It was spacious. They have nice outdoor grounds that the residents can go outside to. They have a small library, a big dining hall, a small physical therapy area, and a small activity center. I did not try the food, but I looked at the menu, and it looked like a nice variety. Veranda House is an older facility, but that was not important for my father. He is from a very small farm community back in the MidWest, so that’s what I was looking for. I think they have a total of 56 residents, so it is not really large, it does not have any of those bells and whistles, and that’s what we were looking for. Unfortunately, at this time, we’re not placing my dad there as he wanted to stay in South Dakota, but when he does move down this way, that is definitely the place that I’m going to check more into.

My mother is settled in at Veranda House and doing fine. The staff is very good and do a very good job. We have don't have any complaints about the food. It's very good. They have lots of activities, like bingo and other things like that.

My mother is in Veranda House. She likes the food and the staff, and everything. She has a roommate, so the apartments have rooms for two twin beds, a closet, and a bathroom without a shower. You have to go down the hall with someone to take a shower. The place is clean. However, they do not clean it as often as I will or I want it, but they clean it at least of twice a week. I guess they can improve on cleaning it more often. The staff is very good.

This facility is okay. Nothing bad to say about it but my Mom didn't like it because, in her opion, it was too hospital looking. I didn't think so; it is just an older facility. I liked it because it is the "Old Katy" area and the location/surroundings are more like living in a small town.
