I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was at West Janisch Health Care Center. It looks nice when you walk in, but when you go to the rooms, everything is so dark and gloomy. It was decently clean, but not super clean. The staff members that took care of my father were terrible. My father would be left with no sheets and no blankets for hours. They wouldn't change his diaper when they were supposed to. My father fell and they lied and changed the hours so that he didn't stay there long. When he was discharged, he had a severe urinary tract infection and a severe foot infection where they had to amputate his leg. It was bad there. The nurses would keep them in the dark like they closed their doors. Even some of the other patients next door had no sheets and they were kind of hanging off the bed. It was terrible. They had activities, but my father was never involved. They played card games, but I just don't know what they were. As for the food, it was terrible. I asked them to give my father healthy food, or at least something that didn't go with gravy or barbecue, and it was on purpose, they gave him exactly that every day. They need to hire people. And even though they've been there for a long time, they should still remember that they need to be empathetic to patients with dementia and sickness.

This is a very OLD facility, During the stay of my loved one. A month ago, theres no HOT WATER. had to warm towels and water in staff microwave just to give my love one a bath. No ice maker. Ice was in an ice chest. Linen is very dingy and towels are rough and hard. Staff is very unprofessional. Patients are on lights for a long period of time. Until one patient would start screaming for help and hitting on walls and tables for help. I came in one night staff sleep, (photo taken) are all sitting at the desk eating. Beds are old with rust. Sink in room had rust. I took pictures. TV’s are so small, my love one had to be without a TV the entire weekend because no one knew how to work TV and maintenance man was off. Not to mention HIPPA not sure if STAFF knows what that mean. Thank God, my Love One was able to be transfer out. Im still in disbelief this place doesn’t have HOT WATER. In bad need of an UPGRADE.

The staff is warm and friendly. They know the family members by face or name and are always approachable to offer assistance. My sister became a resident in November and the staff had several meetings with me to identify a 3-month plan for her. Prior to Janisch, my sister was in a terrible nursing home and had numerous health problems. The level of care at West Janisch is like night and day compared to the other facility. My sister is a Type I diabetic who is in her 60's so her blood sugars were averaging stroke level from 330-400. Now, Janisch has reduced it to 220! We are ecstatic and she is so happy here. I can't say enough good things about the place. The doctor's returns your calls and the staff takes an interest in their patients care.

My mother has been at this facility in the Memory Care Unit for approximately one and half years. I have been very impressed with the care she has been given. The facility may be a bit old but it is kept up and clean. She was in a newer facility prior to this stay. I have to say she is happier and much more well cared for in West Janisch. Also I am so pleased with the excellent communication. Very nice to be kept informed and phone calls returned when requested. Our family has been very happy with her care and the facility.

Our mother stayed at this facility for 15 days, following a femur fracture, in order to receive physical therapy for her recovery. We are very happy with the way she was cared for. The nurses were always courteous and responsive. The facility head nurses and doctors were keen to answer all of our questions and concerns. Our special thanks to Fatima and Micah. The rooms and bathroom are spacious and well maintained. The canteen offers a standard menu and an alternative choice. In general, the food was good, although we feel there was sometimes room for improvement.

I will say that the staff are good and acknowledge my friend by her name. She is living there permanently. Some days it smells like a nursing home does, but most of the time it's okay. The administration staff listen to my concerns for her because she has NO family. So I am signed on to speak for her. I know there are worse places than this place and I am satisfied with her being here. It would be really nice if they could update the beds and paint the rooms pretty colors. I think that would be less depressing for the permanent residents if they could choose their own room color.

I am giving this place an overall rating of 3, it would be a 4, but the place needs a serious cleaning and remodel. There are some wonderful people working here (such as a male nurse named Iffe) There was recently an administration change and I think that can only bring the place up as it was much needed. Rosie in admissions is great to deal with and was a great help figuring out the 100000 questions we had at first. We were with West Janish all the way through hospice care. We are now utilizing them again for a respite care situation for my father in law. I would suggest to anyone placing a loved one to put your loved one close enough to you so that you can visit often and get to know the staff. Communication is key.

This facility was bad but has gotten a lot better. They have made many changes starting with administration that were needed. The care is great now and I'm confident they are taking care of my loved one.

This is one of the worst places in Houston to ever put your loved one in. This place has no regard for person. The entire staff from the administrator to the laundry staff are rude and disrespectful. The facility really should be closed down. The entire nursing staff make you wonder if they are still licensed personnel. I could not remove my loved one fast enough. If you don't love your loved one then put them here to die fast!!! But if you have one ounce of humility within your being you will not place them here.

If you want a clear picture of what's going on inside this facility you don't have to look hard. Starting with the outside looking in you'll see the staff partying in the streets. I had to go check on my mother one evening who was having complications. I pulled up in front of the facility and called my sister. I had my windows up and could not hear my sister talking on the other end of the phone they were so loud. I asked one of the nurses 4 car lengths away if they would mind turning the music down a bit because I couldn't hear. She replied, " Shut up Ho!" I went inside and told the nurse supervisor what they said and she replied " Call the police". She just turned and walked away. I took my mother out the next day.
