I visited this facility

Holly Hall Retirement Community was a beautiful facility, but it was private pay. They did not accept Medicaid. The staff was fine. The building was nice. It was gated and protected. There was a beautiful entrance, the lobby area.

I visited this facility

I toured Holly Hall Retirement Community. The campus is lovely. There is some covered parking and nice dining activities. They have good-sized apartments. The staff were helpful and supportive. I tried their food. There's a variety of food. There's courtyard and a gym. It's just a really nice place.

I visited this facility

Holly Hall Retirement Community was beautiful. It was gated. We had to stop at the gate before we went into the facility to talk to a security guard. The person I met was very knowledgeable. He gave us a tour and was very friendly. They had bingo there. We saw the dining area and because somebody had COVID, they were not eating in the dining room area. The residents were picking up their lunch. The dining area was gorgeous. The outside of the facility was landscaped beautifully.

Holly Hall Retirement Community was a nice facility. The people that work there were friendly. It was clean. When I walked through the door, there was no smell of urine or anything. The room was nice and clean. The staff during the tour was nice and very informative. She answered all of my questions. The dining area was nice and clean. I wasn't able to eat anything, but the admissions lady said she eats there sometimes because the food is good. She told me that if my sister was able, they do exercises and bingo. They also have other activities to help her mind stay busy.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Holly Hall Retirement Community, like any other place, has good staff members who do their work well, but there are some who do not. I didn't stay as long as I was supposed to, because I didn't like the way they did their medications. They did not like to go over the medications with the resident and call out the name of the drug in front of them. They just wanted to put all the pills in a cup and then hand it to you and say "Here." A lot of mistakes can be made if you don't call out the drug and a mistake was made. Each day I had to fight with the nurse about calling the drug out and I ended up taking an old drug. It didn't hurt me or anything, but it was a drug I was not currently taking. The food was average and they did not do a good job of giving you what you asked for. No problems with the building or the outside though. It was fine.

I visited this facility

Holly Hall Retirement Community is the Number 2 selection for me. They had a 1-bedroom 1-bath, and they were good-sized. They had full kitchens, they were nice apartments and the facility was nice. It's been taken care of very well. They utilize the latest technology to help manage the entire place. I was impressed with the way that they implemented technology into the apartments, there were a lot of good things about that. They did not have three meals a day. They had an option for a day, but that was more money, and it was a little steep cost-wise. The location was right next to the football stadium that's down here, this goes right up to the parking lot of Energy Field. They had like 10 acres of land there and they built it up, so that was nice. The grounds are very nice and nicely taken care of. So on one hand, it was problematic that it was close, but if you are a sports fan and like to watch the Texans, then you had a good place to park there. The apartment was nice-sized, they had weekly housekeeping and they scheduled transportation. They all had full kitchens, a full-sized refrigerator, and electric stoves and I think they required the residents to bring a microwave if they wanted one. The staff that gave the tour was very patient. He offered for us to come back at lunchtime to check out the food. The dining area was very nice and everything there was nice, like upgraded luxury apartments.

Overall, a very positive experience with the IL facility. The staff seemed very caring and responsive to our needs. The facility is clean, well kept and welcoming. The activities and wellness programs seemed well thought out and plentiful. We only had one opportunity to eat in the dining room before COVID-19, but our experience there was very good. The recent addition of the CATIE system seems to be a positive step and offers some additional communication tools. I think overall, I was most impressed with the attitude and spirit of the staff; from the security guard at the gate, to the front desk receptionist, to admissions personnel, to maintenance staff, etc., everyone was pleasant, caring and friendly. I also really appreciated the beauty of the grounds and landscaping. Finally, the decorations and themes maintained in the corridors, bulletin boards, and display areas was done with care and thoughtfulness. Well done.

My parents chose Holly Hall for it’s beautiful campus and continuity of care. Holly Hall did not disappoint. Throughout their seven years here, they have enjoyed the chef prepared meals, entertaining activities, engaging residents and kind, professional staff.

I really like Holly Hall. The grounds are lovely. There are options for assisted and independent living; those are well laid out. I like that the residents are so much part of the community. I also like that it is not-for-profit. The rooms are OK. They are small though.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have lived at Holly Hall for two years. My husband and I are very glad we moved to this small and caring retirement community. We are in independent living but will have access to assisted living and healthcare if our needs change. The residents are friendly and come from many different backgrounds. The staff is also friendly, and very helpful. The 20-acre campus is well-maintained and is conveniently located with access to the medical center, the museum district, and downtown. We like living at Holly Hall!

Holly Hall is right in our neighborhood. My mother has been there for six years. There are a number of native Houstonians there like my mother. The care is good, and they have everything from independent all the way to nursing care. The food and place are good. They have activities.

While this facility is beautiful on the outside, the care provided in the assisted living areas and health care areas are substandard. There is a high turnover of staff and many don't have hands on training for even the basics of dementia care. If your loved one can live fully on their own, then I would rate this a five star. But if your loved one requires any type of care or suffers from one of the many types of dementia, please look at other facilities.

My mom is at Holly Hall. It’s a very nice place. My mom’s place is small, but we were able to get a couch, her lounge chair, and a small table. Her kitchen is very small but she has gotten used to that. Her bedroom is large and she got a hospital bed, a table, and a computer. Their food was very good. If you don’t like what they are serving they have an alternative menu. They have different activities like bingo, Skip Bo, bridge, or dominoes. They have a hair salon and a store. They also celebrate different parties like Father’s Day.

Holly Hall was lovely. I had a very favorable impression. The people were very nice and very accommodating. The place itself was very nice, and it would be a pleasant place to live. They've got a variety of models, sizes, and setups. They range from a small efficiency type place to a two-bedroom larger apartment. The ones that I saw were nice. The dining area looked very appropriate, and they had a good variety of menu items.

In the halls people smile and greet residents by name. Most employees are very caring and thoughtful. The grounds are beautiful and the facility is very clean.

The facility grounds are always very clean and well kept up. Security is important at Holly Hall and everyone must stop at the gate and speak to the guard before entering. If you are visiting a resident, the resident must put you on a list so the guard knows to let you on the property. The interior of the building is beautiful and very clean. Staff are always very pleasant and helpful. The services provided at Holly Hall are exceptional. Residents to not have to leave the facility for hardly anything thing. All meals are provided in the dining all, a hair salon is on site and well as a chapel where church services are held. Living spaces at Holly Hall range from very large, almost entire houses, to very small, single rooms.

If you drove by, you'd never notice this facility unless you knew where you were going. It's on 20 rural acres. It's also near the Texas Medical Center. I like that this is a Christian retirement community. They offer several independent living options, and the health care section is really well-kept. I talked with one of the assistant managers there, and I was told that they don't accept any government assistance or subsidies and that the residents have to pay out of pocket. I'm not sure if he meant that they don't accept Medicare. They have private rooms and private suites available. They let the residents select their own rooms, rather than placing them in specific rooms. The age group they accept is 65 and over. I don't think it's age discrimination, it's just the age group they target. They provide piano lessons for their residents. They provide transportation for the residents to the medical center or any other doctor's appointments, and if they need to go shopping, they're willing to transport them there as well. They have good dining options, and the menu changes every month. They also have a beauty and barber service available on-site, and they plan various social activities and trips to casinos in Louisiana. One thing I really like about this facility is that it's a Christian-type retirement community with weekly worship services. They aren't mandatory "“ it's up to the individual residents if they want to attend the mass. One of the local pastors came in to cover for the facility's minister, who was on vacation while I was there. This facility is also environmentally friendly and has an emphasis on being green, recycling, and making sure their residents get exercise. They do have 24-hour security on site, and they also have a 24-hour maintenance person on call if necessary. If one of the residents wants to hold a meeting or party, they can schedule a private meeting room. They also have 50 private health care units available. Once a resident comes in, the facility will have a trained and licensed physician perform a medical exam to see if there's anything they can help with. That physician comes in about twice a month to do other screenings for some of the residents. They have master suites and one- and two-bedroom apartments available. They have private cottages built on the grounds as well. I spoke to the owner, and he said he plans various activities throughout the month, including worship services, Bible study, Biblical games, and exercise programs.
