My mom is in The Tradition-Prestonwood Assisted Living & Memory Care. The staff is great. The aesthetics of the whole building are great. The food is really good and has a great variety. The common area is beautiful. It's like a beautiful home that's updated. It certainly has the feeling that you're going into a beautiful home and not into convalescent living. The lighting is beautiful and everything's gorgeous. I think with most places, though, you have to be there. You have to be an advocate for your parents or whoever's living there and make sure that they're doing what they say that they're doing. For us, there was a little bit of an adjustment period. We moved her in and it took a while for us to get adjusted to her schedule and make sure they were doing what they said they were doing. When I go there, I stay with her so I know when they don't come in when they say they would. But it's great now. We just had a run-in with them a couple of months ago where we had to sit down with everyone. That's where you finally realize who is the advocate for your parents and who's an advocate for the institution. When your aging parent has dementia, you don't know what happens there. My mom can't communicate with me the things that happened or didn't happen. But when I'm there, I know things that don't happen that should be happening. I wish that there was a way of getting feedback from them instead of just calling them and asking them. I wish there was a type of weekly assessment or write-up of what activities my mom did, almost like a child. I hate to say it that way, but I wish there was more of that. With the money that we're paying, it seems like they should be able to take that time to communicate with us things like how my mom is doing, and what she is doing. They wrote it down and they have it on the computer whenever they go into my mom's room and give her medicine, but it would just be nicer to have a follow-through. And we've asked for it, but it just hasn't been consistent. It'll happen and then we won't get it again. That's just a little bit of constructive criticism for them.

The Tradition-Prestonwood Assisted Living and Memory Care is a top-notch place, very nice, and has very pretty accommodations. The food is very tasty, and they have a menu you can choose from and nice amenities, but it's very expensive. The only thing we're disappointed in is that they promised that their rehab room will be fully furnished with equipment and there will be a physical therapist in January, but it's still not done. The rest of it is good overall.
