I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Shelby Gardens Place is an excellent place. Their assisted living is very hands-on. They don't seem to have shortages of care partners. When I visit, some of the staff always come in to check to see how my husband is doing. It's just a good atmosphere. When you walk in, there are no bad odors. It's very clean. The staff seems very helpful and very friendly. It's small, but it's a very good place. They have some outdoor spaces. They have a nice garden and the grounds are very well kept up. They have dance classes and art classes, and I've been to one. They have an activity manager who handles art classes and she does a very good job in engaging the residents. The management is pretty outstanding. I think they're very on top of things. They seem to be very caring. They ask for my feedback about how my husband is doing and what he likes. He is not very energetic, but they try to engage him. They send out daily programs for what's available that day. They have the daily menus posted in the hallways so people can read them. They have a big porch outside. When the weather permits, lots of people are sitting outside in that area. It's just a very, very homey, friendly place. It has good vibes.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Overall, the facility looks nice and everyone is friendly at first. Later, I had a terrible experience. (continue to read) My mother was a resident for 17 days in July, 2022. In the evenings, I found the staff was invisible often when I tried to locate them. No one was at the front desk at night, or in any of the halls. Nurse staff worked 5-6 hours past their shift to help the residents with medication, etc., when they had no one coming in for the night. The head staff left knowing no medical person would be there. Some care facilities have wonderful workers and other workers who do not care, or are not well-trained. I found at Shelby Farms as one of the worst. If your loved one cannot communicate their needs, you need to be there every day, hire someone to be there, or keep looking. What they promised us for her care (bedridden) for $9400 @ month was not communicated to the staff. It was such a traumatizing experience that I did not write a review at the time, but now I feel I must warn others. My mother was not fully cognizant. I found her almost lifeless on a visit. She was rushed to the emergency room, and almost passed away that day. Needless to say, she never went back, and even the remaining days were not repaid to her.

I visited this facility

Shelby Gardens Place had a nice amount of staff and a lot of charts-like boards on the walls. It looked nice and clean. It was well-kept and decorated. The staff who gave the tour was nice, helpful, and very knowledgeable. They had a lot of activities. They had speech therapy and physical therapy that was there onsite, so there's a lot of good things there. The dining hall looked okay, but it could have been a little nicer. It was kind of bare. They could add tablecloths or something to make it prettier.

It was a beautiful place. The staff was friendly and nice. We visited the memory care and the lady that gave the tour was very nice and very helpful. She gave a complete tour of the place with no problems. They offer single private rooms, which was kind of what we were looking for. The dining area was first-class. It was like eating in a restaurant. It had plenty of room and you can either sit by yourself or with a group. When we walked in, they were going to an activity session with the people in memory care. It was very enlightening to see people taking part in this activity. There was a slideshow where one of them was doing cards and stuff like that and she was just telling them what she was showing to them and asked questions. It was nice because it kind of stimulate their minds.

My mother is here. It's a nice and clean place, and she likes it. It's convenient to where I'm living. It's almost around the corner from me. The staff is good. I've called several times and asked them to do things for my mom, and they took care of it. I'm also able to go over there and talk to them; overall, we have a great relationship. She said the food is good. They have lots of activities, but my mother chooses not to participate. She has a hotel refrigerator freezer, a microwave, and a kitchen sink or an area if you want to cook something (which you really don't have to because you're provided three meals a day). They have an outdoors in the front and a patio in the back. Sometimes they'll have activities at the back.

It was a nice place. The staff members were very informative. They've been contacting me since I went there. It is a topnotch place. You have control of the heating air in your room. It had a closet and a bathroom. Everything looks to be quite clean. They had a reading room and a nice piano sitting out where the classes were going on. Everybody had their own place. They were having some type of game or some type of class because they were responding as far as calling out to give an answer to what they were doing. They have little trips and outings.

The sales staff was friendly on the phone. They even call this their home when they live out of state. I was impressed with their home like feel. They are under renovation but it seemed to look nice. I was hoping the rooms would be larger, but I was assured residents stay out of their rooms most of the time. They have two food choices and the activity director had many residents laughing and playing a game.

The staff here go above and beyond for the residents and their families. They even call once a month just to check in and make sure we are happy with the services they are providing. That to me, really shows they care about the residents.
