Everyone has a opinion and their own way at looking at things. So are the reviews of Fair Haven. The facility is older but is well maintained. It’s kept clean and organized. My mother-in-law entered Fair Haven over two years ago. From day one she was welcomed and treated with respect. Eleanor the owner try’s to operate the facility the way it needs to be operated. There are rules the state says must be followed. This is what must people see Eleanor taking care of. Every place like this sees a higher level of turn around when it comes to employees. People do not realize what it takes to be a caretaker of someone who has special needs. They enter into it thinking it will be easy and then realize it’s actually work. Back to my mother-in-law. She enjoyed being there. They have activities for the residents to participate in. There is something pretty much every day . Everything from bingo to crafts to bible study. Also volunteers come in for different activities. They took very good care of my mother-in-law. Even when she started slowing down they did not leave her behind or left out. They adjusted what needed to be done. My mother-in-law had a dramatic turn downwards. It was quick and sudden. They did not bat an eye to what needed to be done. They went over and above. It was my mother-in-law’s home and that was the way they treated her. In my opinion they did a great job. You need to form your own opinion.

The hallways at Fair Havens were very dark. No lights were turned on and when I asked the woman that was giving us the tour about it (if it was always this dark), she said that someone had just forgotten to turn on the lights, but she didn't make any effort to turn the lights on. They had a total of 19 residents and at the time we went, there was only one person to take care of those 19 residents (when some of those residents have Alzheimer's or dementia). The sidewalk wasn't cleaned off of the ice going into the place, too. I understand things happened, but the carpet was torn in places and it would have been easy for any one of those people to trip over it. The place wasn't dirty. It was just dark. The woman who gave the tour was very nice, though. I had made the appointment for the tour, and the person that was supposed to give me the tour wasn't there, so she did the best that she could.

Owner was extremely unprofessional. She reprimanded employees in front of visitors, she was rude to residents, she yelled at family members, there are just too many negatives to mention. I took my mother out as soon as I could and I would never want anyone to be in that place, it should be shut down. I did report all the problems to the state.
