I was not impressed with You First Personal Care. It was not up to par. It was run down. The clients seemed happy. They were sitting and watching TV. It was fine, but it was dingy looking. Everything was unorganized. They don't have an elevator and the chair lift going up the stairs for the residents on the second floor was broken, so my friend wouldn't be able to even have a second-floor option. The owners were nice. It just wasn't up to our standard. I hate to even say anything bad because they're so nice, but it was really small and it looked rundown. The room was dark and rundown. There's no privacy in the double room. It looked like a college dorm. They have menu options. They have resident meetings once a month to talk about the food and what they would like, so they do ask and inquire what their preferences are. There are one to two choices for each meal. The place was small, like the kitchen was right there with the dining area, and the dining area was right next to the living room. It was all just together. It gave more of a nursing home vibe like an assisted living facility. The residents seemed happy. They called them by name, they were smiling, and they seemed content and satisfied. They have a TV in the common area. The activities board has something every day. They have bingo, kickball, and stretching. There's a baseball field across the street, so sometimes they go over there and watch the kids play. It's 10 minutes from a state park and 10 minutes from the community center, so if they wanted to go outside of the facility, they're free to go wherever they want.

The young lady that runs You First Personal Care was very friendly. She provided a brochure with information and was very welcoming. Residents would have bingo nights and events where folks came down to watch TV together in the great room. I was just a little bit surprised by the higher cost they offer compared to the conditions of the facility. It's an old church that they converted to a senior home and it just didn't feel as clean as the other facility we saw. It's very worn. They had shared showers and a lot of shared rooms.
